But anytime you trade for prospects its a roll of the dice. Its a normal baseball transaction and no one takes it personal when the Rangers are top of their division and trade to get Cliff Lee to secure that top spot.
-
So now they trade their valuable commodities (especially the ones they dont plan to keep next year) for the hope of a brighter future. Its a roll of the dice for me to take Bruxton when he probably wont be a full-time player rill 2015.
-
Things like this happen all the time in baseball. One team sees the writing on the wall, they aren't gonna win this year because they paid Hallady and Haren too much. Traded for guys they thought might turn it around and didn't.
-
Guys,
-
Go run a graph on the reports tab and put the start of the season in until now, select all of the teams, the first time I was in 1st place was in June, the first time I was in 2nd place was in May.
-
approved when people were freaking out about it and then it got talked about publically & worked out. This trade was vetoed without anyone making a sound on the forum or anyone being aware before it happened.
-
which does not appear to be the case. It appears that some were certainly for competative edge, which is not how I thought we would be using the veto in the league. Sure a lot of people have to veto something. But the previous Josh Hamilton trade got
-
John does a great job and I would love to travel from the west coast to hang out with the group, but I doubt that is feasible. Everyone else can, which is kind of the issue potentially. I would understand if the vetos were for a concept of value,
-
You can go look at the points graph and it is pretty clear. This has been one of the most volatile years, I doubt I have spent more time in 1st or 2nd then the other teams.
-
Sure we all want to win. You have a mis-conception that I have some world beating team and that Longoria would put me over the top. My batting has been sinking. I was not in 1 or 2nd for the first 2 months of the season I was 5-6th.
-
then after he was given a somewhat stable starting job and exploded it would not have seemed that crazy.
-
Puig was in AA and not expected to play this year, it happened because Dodgers got injued. Jose Fernansez was in A and he is pitching because of injuries. It happens. That said, my whole point was that people may have balked at the idea of a Puig trade
-
The money is not really an issue. It is until the end of the season. Like 70ish games. The loans all expire at the end of the season. Money is a non-issue outside of the fact that he had cash to spare and I did not at the moment.
-
nice Dave!
-
OT from the current topic, but: I made the friggin PNC Park jumbotron doing the Grant Balfour Ragefest!! I rule!
-
and we all want to win. That is a good thing and it should make for a good league for years to come. Can I suggest that in future years, we all get together over the All Star break and hash out all of our issues with pairs of oversized boxing gloves?

With all of this being said, I really enjoy this league. John does a great job trying to manage the emotions of men who take fantasy baseball very seriously. This discussion is just another example of why our league is so good. We are all very involved..

admit that I vetoed your trade, and I will veto the next one b/c I don't see anything different in it the second time it was submitted. It may pass the second time around b/c a big stink was raised, but I still don't like it.

actions, I'm just trying to explain the thought process. I would argue that we should use the veto button more often, and when a trade gets vetoed by the league, we rework it so that it gets approved by the league. I will be the first one to publicly.....

prove to be a big deal, however, it is still way too early to compare him to Puig. In the mean time, Hillbilly is offering to pay the entire contract for Longo. I think it just rubbed some people the wrong way. I'm not necessarily justifying the leagues..

liberally than most on here, but I guess I figure that if enough of us don't think a trade is even then it will get vetoed, otherwise, it will go thru. As Erik mentioned, I think a lot of us are hung up on the money thing. You are right, Buxton could.....

a reason. You may go right ahead and veto every single trade for the rest of the season, but it will not do any good unless the majority of the league agrees that a trade is uneven and therefore, worthy of a veto. Maybe I use the veto button more.........

have been in the lead/top two for a majority of the season. Its only natural that the rest of us would like to remain competitive and if we see a deal that we don't like then we exercise our right to veto. Sorry, you may not like it, but it is there for..

CWC, first off let me start off by saying that you are a worthy opponent. You are always competitive and your participation is good for the league. You need to understand that your deals are going to be scrutinized and evaluated more than most b/c you....

Awwww man, I picked a really bad day to be crazy busy at work. I wanna play, I wanna play. Hold on, let me try to get caught up so I know what we're arguing about. We appear to have gone in several different directions with this one.

Me too really.
-
By the way I am officially entertained.
-
Curse my smart phone and its typing deficiences.

Really pickung up Hamilton because if this years numbers? Not that he might rebound like crazy? Also, Longori is comung off of injury and always prone. He has no full seasons rwally ezxept ine so far. Also, my poinr on Ozuna exactly.
-
And Buxton is not in AA. Longoria - 558, Hamilton - 358, Ozuna is a top Marlins OF prospect having an okay rookie season and we don't know his projection just like we don't know Buxtons.
-
Puig was in AA. How do you know Buxtons timeline? What if the twins are contenders? Hamilton is a superstar and Ozuna does not even have good minpr peague numbers. He is a gamble off one year. A decent gamble sure.
-
and Hamilton is a $32 player playing like a $7 dollar player while Longoria is a $35 player playing like a $35 player. Anyway, I still think we should make a money cap at $15. Would that not help?
-
Puig doesn't compare because he's playing two months later, Harvey doesn't compare because he's playing a year later, and Hamilton and Ozuna don't compare because Ozuna is a current player while Buxton is a year and a half away . . .
-
Also... Hamilton and Cash for Ozuna is different how? Seriously go watch some tape on Buxton.
-
about trading Harvey now? or that I have not gone and looked at that trade a couple if times at this point?
-
for puig happened with the same salary issues people might have had misgivings. But two months layer (now) the trade would not have seemed all that bad. What about last years trade when I gavr John Matt Harvey for Buster Posey? Think I would think twice
-
Easy comparison. Yasiel Puig was discussed two months ago when I was trying to trade for Kershaw. I said I thought he was worth around 20-25 bucks. He decided that was a little high. The trade talks really ceased then for a while. If a trade for kershaw
-
We could limit the amount of money traded in the future. Then teams could still trade prospects for better current players but they'd have to pay their large contracts with most of their money instead of a big loan from someone else.10?Wouldn't that help?

I was referring to when Cuban (sarcastically or not) suggested a rule of not trading with 1st or 2nd place . . . Both sides may be frustrated but I don't think any rules are being broken on the trade side or the veto side.
-
I think people just saw that one prospect was being traded pretty much straight up for an elite 3rd basemen which seems unfair and MAY seem like collusion. But Hillbilly loves his Twins and he clears cap space for next year.
-
What rule are you referring too?
-
It may be a good strategy to not trade with teams in 1st and 2nd place but I don't think there should be a rule against it. It obviously caused some frustration but that can be the nature of the game.
-
Ok, lay out your case here for everyone. Here's my rebuttal: A Superstar plus $30 for One Prospect (who may not be called up til 2015) is insane. Regardless of what happens at the end of the season; we are talking about the "Now". The floor is all yours.

You got Lance Lynn and Paul Goldschmidt for a broken Matt Kemp and no one raised a ruckus. You were in first place. Look in the mirror.
-
then I ask once again. Why would we allow trades in the league then to the person who is in 1st or 2nd? Maybe we should just not allow whoever is leading the league to trade. That certainly sounds like a good way of going about it.
-
Go look at the trade history and the prospects that I gave up for Mike Trout. Go actually look at some game tape of Byron Buxton before you label this as unfair. If you are simply vetoing to prevent a player from going to my team because I could win...
-
Besides, you were not in the league last season, so I do not blame you for not knowing. But it is not like when I got Mike Trout last season for prospects that sealed the deal for me winning the league. He scuffled towards the end and I got 2nd.
-
He was trying to convince me to accept the trade, thats why he put that line in the commentary. I have bigger holes than 3b, its not like it was an easy decision and its not like I did not take time thinking about it.
