4 3b because of it. I think that a lot of folks have pretty odd perceptions of everything. Btw- Longoria since the trade is like 1 for 12. I really do not have much faith in him. What do you expect me to do when the guy leading the league in pitching stat
-
have to drop him. I know I am going to have to drop most of my expensive players. I will put it this way. I would be willing to trade Longoria for just about any player that could help me a little this year and I might actually hold on to. I am rostering
-
Okay. I think you folks are rather amusing. I did not/do not really even want Longoria. I made the trade because he is probably better than having Machado there and going with a different MI person. Its not like I really had a hole at 3b. I will probably
-
I just looked at whoever was in A Ball and had more points than Buxton. Except Phegley, that was just to piss you off :)
-
Who are these 'people' you speak of ?
-
Terdoslavich? Roughed Odur? Phlegly? Are people just making up names and nominating them?
-
Thanks for weighing in SteelR. I'd value responses from anyone who objected to the trade. I have some thoughts on your hypothetical, but I'm going to hold off for now, because I want to see if tht or others respond.
-
benefitting, but it would not be fair to the league because he'd be at 530 dollars even if it's only for this season. The Longoria trade was not of this magnitude but this is the path that we can go down. That's why there should be some discretion used.
-
You may not have asked me but I think option 1. What if I gave Matt(THT) Prince Fielder, McCutchen and Weaver plus all of the money for their salaries and he gave me 3-5 great prospects in return. The trade would fair between us because we're both
-
Option 3: Something else entirely. Please explain. I'm not trying to persuade at this point, just want to understand where you're coming from.
-
Option 2: Independent from any opinion about the value of the players involved you object to large loans and would want to cap loans at something less than $30 (either per trade or per season)
-
Option 1: In this specific trade the combination of star player, plus only 1 prospect in low minors (however highly regarded he's only 1), and the large salary loan make the trade objectionable, with the $ being the issue that really sends it over theedge
-
@THT: Thanks for giving it one more try. I want to make sure I really understand where you are coming from and I'm still not sure that I do. Could you tell me which of these two options is closer to your position:

I felt the trade was fair so we tried it again after the explanations and it went through. Shouldn't everything be good now?
-
That's why loans exist, so you can trade stars for prospects, without loans its nearly impossible. I do understand why people vetoed the trade and I'm not upset about it, and I wouldn't have been upset if they vetoed it again.
-
It benefited me and it benefited him. That's what makes a good trade. They are suppose to give you a leg up either now or in the future. Money is added because without it we can't trade.
-
I'm shocked that this is an issue. I got rid of a guy I wont keep and money I don't need for a top prospect that I've been wanting. He needed a third basemen and money to make the trade work. It's perfect.
-
Cespedes may have a .200 avg. but congrats on the hr derby.
-
Yeah, the part about being stranded on the deserted island was the hardest part for me to read. I think the issue with his son is whether his mom wants to come to US or not
-
Wow. That's an amazing story. I wonder how he can get his son here. Thanks Dave!

an elite player without offering them a contact which insisted on something covering salary? I would expect that the hidden value in the contact would be covered that way. Roster spots are valuable commodities as well.
-
Well, all I have to say about that would be, thats why there is a loan mechanism and why cash has been used to be able to move players for other players with value based contracts. How else would I potentially move a Puig for example to someone for
-
We believe you. We know that you didn't talk beforehand and that he offered it. It wasn't your fault but it's not about blame. And yes, crazy or not, that's exactly what we would all need to do. If someone needs money they have to cut. That's simple.
-
a player afterwards. I think you are crazy if anyone would have done that. I think you are also think there was more communication before he offered it, which there was 0.
-
No, it does not represent another elite player. It is what makes it a one for one player trade. I think it is pretty simple. He offered the trade. He would have had to send me an email and say hey, cut 15-30$ worth of cap space and then I will trade you
-
That's good that you offered another player but that was not the final option. You could have cut a player to clear cap space which is what everyone does if they want a player but don't have the money. u can disagree but that is the issue.
-
Everyone who vetoed the trade said it was because you got $30 so again it was not because of buxton's potential.you got an elite player plus $30 which represents another elite player so unless buxton is going to score 2200 points then it wasn't even.
-
through afterwards.
-
Look at HD comments and mine. I was willinf to ship another player loke one my other 3 3rd basmen. He did want another player and you cannot offer a trade that puts someone over the cap. The extra cash I have npw was from the trade for Phillips which went
-
I vetoed the trade both times because the explanation/argument was not compelling enough, and no monetary adjustments were made to the trade. This is only the first or second time I exercised my veto right. I approve a trade if it's reasonable.
-
I think one of the largest reason there was an issue is that there was no discussion before hand. No one put anything up on the board, then wham veto.
-
I think of a veto as a last resort to stop collusion from occuring. I have never thought of it as a mechanism to get an adv to win.
-
This issue is likely to come up again and the fact is we all have a veto vote that the system will let us use however we want. It'd be nice to know how ppl think through the decision to veto or not if they are willing to share.
-
Even tho I'm inclined to let most everything go, it definitely got my attention that there were 7 votes against the trade. If 7+ ppl truly think trades like this one should be vetoed then I can prbly adapt, even though its not my preference.
