Yeah, auctions start right away. Does 5 pm Eastern work for everyone?

Once the draft is completed, are we free to bring players up for auction or must we wait until a later date?
-
ok--i think we've reached consensus on the first saturday in february: february 2. i realize that's a quick turnaround from the keeper date, but hopefully that's okay with everyone.

though i get there's bit of irony there when i'm not available for a big chunk of march.

this is crazy. according to your responses, there's not a single day during the entire month of feb through march 4 where everyone is available. the draft should only take 2-3 hrs.

well, back to the drawing board. apparently not a single date from feb 9-27 works for everyone. let's try again--but please, don't rule out a date just because you'd prefer another. only rule it out if you really have a conflict for the entire day. i can try to do early march, though that's kind of pushing it for me. please use this link: http://whenisgood.net/jn25m2w

It's not really a big deal to me, though I am planning a trip at the end of February. Otherwise I'm flexible on dates.

It may predate you, but this league has drafted in February several times before, and it's never been an issue.

Sorry, I really can't be available in March. If necessary, I could just sit out the draft and fill out my team through waivers.

Do we have to go that early? What about that first weekend in March?

ok, let's use this web app: http://whenisgood.net/dk5ec4f please rule out a day only if you aren't available for the entire day.

I should be good just about any date. The earlier we set a date, the better for me.
-
i know it seems early, but we should also try to set a draft date. i'd like to set something for late february, if that's okay with everyone. march will be difficult for me. please let me know if there are any dates in february that won't work for you.

happy new year everyone! we're approaching the keep/cut deadline, so use the surplus calculator, the roster organizer, and your own judgment to make those tough decisions. the slack community also has a keep/cut channel that you might find helpful.

Looking to move Puig for solid innings-eater, decent reliever, or top-20 prospect. He should be good next yr w move to hitters’ park and playing in a contract yr.

It's OK. I could have worded things better along the way. I enjoyed my first year in the league, in large part because we have a group of owners who take such diverse approaches to managing their rosters. It's cool.
-
you're right, i overreacted. we've had a lot of post-trade whining in this league, and i'm hypersensitized to it at this point. but that's no reason to take it out on you. i apologize.

My initial post about your trade was to make a specific point about the loan tax. Later I did say that I thought MRM could have gotten more for Scherzer. That's just my opinion, and a pretty tame one at that. Otherwise, in the past year, I've watched, I dunno, 30 trades go by without saying a word. That's because I almost never talk about others' trade. People have their rosters, and I just worry about mine. So I'm not sure why the one time I pipe up is such a big deal.
-
i disagree with the entire notion of 'trade shaming.' everyone here is an experienced, competent owner. it's quite condescending for someone to take it upon themselves to publicly second-guess another owner's judgment. plus, this league is supposed to be fun. keeping the bellyaching to a minimum is part of that.

especially here, where MRM messaged the entire league about Scherzer and no one else responded with an offer. any bellyaching after the fact is obnoxious.

one person's bad trade is another person's treasure trove. it generally smacks of sour grapes and is pretty tiresome.

I see all of this discussion as proper debate, not complaining. And just a reminder, when we decided to end vetoing of trades last year, we weren't ending criticism of trades. In fact, just the reverse. Without vetoes it's very important that bad trades are criticized as peer pressure is the only enforcement mechanism left. For the record, I also voted to ban the coupon system but I can live with the proposed changes. I also contemplated making an offer on Scherzer, but didn't get around to it.

The Lōgunate on

But to your point, the arb and coupon rules serve dual purposes. One is to help maintain competitive balance. The other is to help ensure owner activity. The coupon system w the loan tax is meant to try to address them both. It’s not perfect, but at least that’s the idea.

I'll shut up (eventually), but my whole point is what purpose does the loan tax even serve?
-
No one is casting aspersions on Chuck: It's a cool roster and it will be fun to see where he is in a couple of years. But you can't say that the loan tax eliminates prospect hoarding when there's that roster with like 14 freakin prospects on it.
-
Considering 4 baggers came in 5th I don't think anyone can cast aspersions re: his competitiveness.
-
not sure how i got brought into the discussion on the merits of a trade that was made for Scherzer and the loan tax rule but if you like some of my prospects always willing to make a trade not just make comments on everone else trades. Thanks Chuck

Oh, and something that the Commish said: The loan tax keeps teams from hoarding prospects? Whut? Have you seen 4 Baggers' roster?
