It does do that, but I don't think it'd be easy to target. Every space you drop in the rankings gets you $2.5 extra dollars from the 500 point drop in target score, but every 200 points you miss while tanking loses $1 back. Maybe hitting the target could be $2 instead of $4 to reduce cliff effects when teams are tightly packed. Part of the reason I suggested basing targets on the champ's points rather than fixed numbers was to create uncertainty to make it harder to tank precisely.

for this year's coupons, i think i've applied everyone's except for muskies (and i'm sure he'll get them to me before the deadline). please let me know if i've missed you.

yeah, i'd be up for trying out something along the lines of your formula. but does tying it to ordinal rankings create an incentive for micro-tanking on the margins? e.g., doesn't it favor my team, in 5th place with 18,204, a lot more than Franimal, with 18,494?

That's fair about the loans. I haven't been around long enough to know--has anyone ever taken on enough loans that they actually paid the tax? If not, could the same thing be accomplished by just banning total net incoming loans of more than $50 (or $100)? As far as the other two goals, I think keying on points rather than games actually achieves both a little better, as well as being more fun, at least from my perspective as someone who fell out of contention by the all star break.
-
hmm, that's interesting. the incentives we've tried to create through the current system are intended to 1) encourage people to stay active and try to compete; 2) discourage prospect hoarding; and 3) discourage taking on huge loans. i think your proposal addresses 1 and to a certain extent 2, but not really number 3. it's also a little hard to wrap your head around, on an intuitive level.

(4/4) In past years, there would have been more teams that didn't hit their target, but they would mostly either would have been teams that didn't come close to filling out games and innings and so reasonably might not deserve a coupon, or teams who finished second or third to a juggernaut, who likely have a reasonably strong team already.
-
(3/4) So my proposal is this: No coupons for the champion. For every other team, assign a target of C - 500*P, where C is the number of points scored by the champion, and P is the place finish the team ended up in. Any team hitting its "target" gets $4 in coupons. And for every 200 points above the "target," they get an additional $1. This year, everyone except Franimal would have hit the target, and coupons would have ranged from $4 for 4 Baggers to $14 for Harmon. and m
-
(2/4) I also think it would be good for the system to give more of a boost to teams at the bottom than the top, while minimizing the incentive to tank that that creates.
-
(1/4) I'd like to propose a different coupon system that's based on points rather than games played. I didn't like that for the last couple months of the season, all I cared about was whether my guys played, not how well they did, to the point where I would start people on a thin scheduled Monday who were out of the lineup hoping they would pinch hit, or start pitchers I thought were better than 50/50 to end up scoring negative points.
-
It seems like the arb coupons worked well--owners stayed a lot more active this year and kept their lineups full. do people want to propose any changes to arb system, or propose any other rule changes?

it's just a manual process-send me a sitemail with how you'd like to allocate your coupon and i'll do it. thanks!

Okay, I guess I do qualify for something. 1437 innings gets me $4, and 1854 games gets me $8. I'll take that. Stupid question #2: Where do I see that on my team page and how to apply it? Honestly don't remember how this works from last year.

Not that I'm expecting a coupon, but where would one look?

i added a draft date just so we have something on the calendar. we'll revisit and change as needed in early 2020.

Everyone please double-check your arb coupons to make sure I've allocated them correctly. I'm doing the best I can, but am admittedly sleep deprived at the moment . . .

I need to cut a player to compensate for the Santander claim, but am locked out from doing so for the offseason. I intend to cut Josh Rojas when able to do so (or if Commissioner powers can do so now, that works too).
-
I had 1851 games played... with 1850 as the threshold. WHEW!

Good choice, Astudillo! I'll follow the Commish's lead and go with Bread for the City.

Msg me with your arb coupon allocations whenever you have a chance. Please do so *before* arbitration starts, otherwise they’ll be forfeit.

For anyone interested in donating, seek out your local food shelf. That works for me.

Congratulations, Astudillo. Pretty damn tough seeing you champ in both of our leagues together, haha!
-
My devious plan to deny Astudillo a championship next year has already borne fruit. I posted Hampson to get him to overbid and confound him throughout the off season. Anyway, congrats to Astudillo for a season well played. It was competitive thru most of the season but he just killed us all in those last two months.
-
Congratulations Astudillo! You had a fantastic season, basically running wire-to-wire. I’m also happy to donate to your favorite charity.

Thanks everyone for a fun season. Last year, my first in the league, I managed 17.5K points and finished fourth. This year the Process Trusters came within 250 of that total and were only eighth. That shows how competitive our league was, and I expect it will be even more so in 2020. Already looking forward to next season, though I can't see me keeping Garrett Hampson at that salary. See you on the other side of arbitration.

There are a lot of "Franimal Collective World Champs" hats accumulating in developing countries

Congratulations again on a dominant last two months. Let us know where we should make our donations

Five of us ended us missing the IP coupon. Two by less than an inning. I think I will suggest lowering that to 1450 next year.
-
Congrats, Astudillo!! And a congrats to Goodrum for maxing our every single position and IP!!
-
WAR's friend's dream of carrying six 60 day IL guys into the off season appears to be dashed.
-
especially not when two of those starters are on playoff teams. still, impressive how much of a runaway this became.
-
Nevermind, he's maxed out on games already at all positions except catcher. Can't reach 250 on pitchers alone.
-
Astudillo attempting to have a monster day of 250 pts to reach 20,000. 3 good starters on the mound today.
-
Seriously, there's a Jarren Duran and a Jhoan Duran in baseball? Doesn't that make them Duran Duran?
-
Good luck going into the home stretch! Looks like 2nd place is still up for grabs between 4 baggers, Franimal, and Muskies.

I suppose I could have looked: "h. Transactions can be requested from the day of the annual draft until the next-to-last day of the regular season. All auctions must be completed prior to midnight of the last day of games of the season. For example, if the last game of the season is on a Sunday , all auctions must be started by midnight Eastern Time on Friday night."
-
I think that's a safe assumption based on everything I've read on the Community site, i.e. final bids are processed at midnight after the last games of the final day of the season.
-
so 11:59 tonight is the last chance to start an auction?
-
just a reminder: drops & adds need to be *completed* by the end of the season. also, hat tip to Yu for reminding folks about making their rosters legal heading into the offseason. it completely slipped my mind.

Yaaas! Frankie Montas back in action. Or Francellis, as his mother calls him. Or Kaching! as his pharmacist calls him.
-
Who doesn't?
-
I just want that IP record.
-
Not to worry. The rather desperate fellow who just picked up 7 SPs in a last-ditch attempt to pass me is under both the roster limit and salary cap.
-
The extra roster slots accorded 60 day IL guys remain even after the season ends, and you won't have to make any cuts to get below 40 until January 31st.
-
Asking for a friend who may or may not have 6 guys on the 60 day...
-
Do the extra roster spots from 60 day IL placements disappear at the end of the season, or do we get to keep them through cuts?
-
The commissioner wanted me to remind everyone of our league rule that for any owner making waiver claims and/or winning bids on the last day(s) of the season, you still have to make corresponding roster cuts and come in under your team's specific salary cap. We've run into this issue for the previous 2 seasons.
-
Next year is my year! Had a feeling I'd miss the games played target. Tried to plug holes along the way but y'all are savage on that auction block.
