There's absolutely no difference, it's just there to make things easier for you organize/view your roster.
-
I've looked for this in the Ottoneu rules, but I can't find the answer. What is the difference between putting a guy on the bench and in the minors? Is there a bench limit? Can you only pull guys up from the minors a limited number of times in a season?
-
If someone wants to use 9% of their total salary this season for the privilege of paying Darvish exactly what he's worth a year from now, I'm not opposed. Which is to say, trading him for nothing sounds like an overpay on the part of the buyer, in my estimation. No objection from me.
-
Still considering dumping Yu Darvish, but would rather trade him for little or zero return. What is the league's position on this issue? I'm ok with it because I think that is the privilege of those teams that have the extra cap room (often the least competitive teams in the short term). But if the league is overall opposed to trades for zero then I won't pursue it.

BTW, I'm glad the trade went thru. Like I said from the beginning I really didn't care about Rajai Davis, but if something like this happens again in the future we should know where we stand as a league.
-
I probably should have voted on my own trade. At the same time I also understand BC's (and others) concern re: nil trades.

I will veto all of Bleacher's trades from now on. Kidding.
-
In this case I was a little surprised that there were more votes to reject the trade than approve it but it still went through.
-
I was too slow to vote. Saw all the emails but just now finally getting to it. I would have voted in favor. I think there is a reason it isn't prohibited. Sometimes a "cap trade" just makes sense. I've been pondering whether to keep, drop, or trade Yu Darvish. If the whole league wants to vote and outlaw trades for zero return I would go with the will of the majority.
-
My two cents is that I get where both of you are coming from. I don't think Bleacher's point is off base, but, in league's like this, I tend to lean toward giving trades the benefit of the doubt. I'm not going to veto this trade, but I think this discussion has put us all on notice about the issue. I have appreciated the dialogue.
-
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I really don't care about his particular trade. I just think it sets a bad precedent.
-
I voted to approve the trade because it _is_ Rajai Davis. Kiwis wants the guaranteed cap space, Penny wants the player. That seems like value for both sides. I can't say where I'd draw a line, but Rajai Davis is far from it. And when it's crossed, I'll vote to veto and/or pester the LC.
-
As for expecting Davis to be picked-up and saving the entire $3, there is a risk involved, where this is a guaranteed savings. Different owners will prefer different choices according to how risk averse they are. Different strokes for different folks, but not objectionable, as you say.
-
Ok, Bleacher, but that's my point, if there were no were other incentive for the owner to do so other than to benefit someone else, that is a different type of trade that should be evaluated accordingly. Each transaction should be evaluated on its own merits. This is a win-win for each of us. Your hypothetical is a win for the receiver with no apparent gain to the sender, and would be vetoed. I don't see what the problem is.
-
If it were me, I'd cut Rajai because I think someone would pick him up so I save the full $3. That said, I'm not going to veto the trade myself but see what's the result of the vote on the trade.
-
? I thought cutting Rajai would cost me $2?

My best friend owns He's Due...if he's close and I'm not I'd be happy to 'gift' him a player...trades are supposed to be value for value. Cutting Rajai Davis results in the same $1 cap space as this trade and gives everyone a shot at him. Again...I have zero interest in Davis; I just think these types of trades should not be allowed.
-
If someone was out of the race in July, why would they need cap relief right at that moment? At that point they could just hold on and wait to cut him at the end of the season. What the hell are they gonna do with $60 in July when they are out of the race? Again, your example is off base.
-
So then where do u draw the line? If I'm outta the race in July and I want to give my friend Kershaw for only cap relief u gonna be ok with that? I don't really care about Rajai Davis, but if you allow this one u really should allow them all which you can't
-
This saves me $1. That's my return.

It's no different than trading cap space or loans. Moreover, the owner moving the player benefits not only from the cap room, but from the additional roster spot.
-
It is not the same at all. There is no cap penalty involved in a trade, which is precisely why people do it. If there was no difference, there would be no incentive to do it, and people would just drop instead.
-
A trade for zero return is like a directed waiver claim. If you're gonna drop someone everybody should have a chance to pick him up.
-
Penny Whistles, that is how I felt when I saw Ballers start an auction on Michael Saunders, one of my favorite players who I have little use for.

A pox on your house, Tunas!

So I forgot to cut a few guys. If your interested in Utley and Lowrie so please send me offers in the next week if you have any interest. Looking to free up some cap space so would appreciate lower cost offers.

I'm trying to but I can't for some reason

I'm good with the 10th at 9pm.
-
That is correct
-
Just to clarify that is 9 pm EST correct? That's 5:00 for me which should be fine.
-
I just set the draft date without hearing from Bleacher Creatures and Operation Trumbo Drop cause we're approaching it soon. Hoping this works but we can adjust again if either can't make it.
-
Bleacher Creatures and Operation Trumbo Drop, please go back to the Doodle poll as the new Monday and Tuesday option might work for all of us. http://doodle.com/fypiparpidtvn33a

Thanks Ballers, hopefully Monday or Tuesday night your time works for everyone

Close but not quite there. Added a couple later options for the nights that we were closest to having everyone and also some nights next week that I could make it (Monday and Tuesday) per Tuna's request. Please add your availability again http://doodle.com/fypiparpidtvn33a

I'm pretty open 8-13th as well. Anytime after 9 pm EST, if possible (kids to bed). I can also do daytime EST as I work from home.
-
I'm unemployed until mid-April, so I am more or less available at any time.
