with the same amount of money. I will say that our league is a bit different than some of my other leagues because in the early years we had some disengaged owners which created some imbalance and warped player values. I think this has adjusted the last couple of years with more engaged and savvy owners, but there are still some undervalued players that are a carry over from that era. That being said we are a much "sleepier" league than most of my other leagues when it comes to transac

Couple of points. First, given my team that made the OPL playoffs is 5th in its league I don't think any other team sacrificed so that could happen. In fact that team was 2nd the season before when it was not OPL. Because OPL is best ball format you have to assemble a team that is somewhat suboptimal for league play. As far as winning players I think it is pretty close to regular baseball in that you bid on the free agents you want. If anything, it is better than baseball because everyone starts

I am trying to justify my continued participation.
The draft. Why do I have to bid on a player I select when it is my turn? And, the teams that are bottom do not get a first round pick? This does not happen in baseball. I lost out on players I selected because I was out bid. Selecting a player should not start of a bidding war.
We make no effort to create a balanced competition. It is lopsided, at best.Hudson Duffers on August 25, 2025 2:53 PM

Good points. But for you both to be successful, we have to sacrifice our teams and "domestic" competitiveness. Which makes any effort on our part to create a non-OPL completive team pointless. I might as well field any group of players I can get for $1 a piece and play them until June or whenever OPL finally ends hoping that with the cash I've stashed that I can get a discard. But, you never discard quality players in that pivot.

I wouldn't say Tyler and I "didn't make a dent" in OPL. We both made the first two cuts (final 100 from starting 240) and I came within one place of the playoffs being beaten out by one of my own teams from another league. OPL is a different dynamic. For example, my team that made the playoffs is 5th in its league. You actually have to sacrifice a bit of your league competitiveness to do well in OPL, although you can pivot once you are eliminated.

Any way, my team's new theme song, "Free Fallin'". Always liked Tom Petty ....
More HR from my pitching crew yesterday. We are going to cement that top position and hopefully set a record to remember!
And being Sunday, my hitters took to the beach. Who scores -8 points this late in the season. I modeled it out. I had <1% probability of that happening.Hudson Duffers on August 25, 2025 2:16 PM

OPL is a separate competition as far as I can determine. Neither Roca and Geezer with fantastic teams made much of a dent this year. It really is for very strong teams. Even if I made the top 6 I'd not spend the money to be eliminated in the first cut again. If we are not pushing Roca and Geezer in our league, then OPL is just lambs to the slaughter.
This is what makes OPL hard. We have to trade our best players to Roca and Geezer for them to be successful, while we fail in this leHudson Duffers on August 25, 2025 2:14 PM

Portland is 20/wk behind Hickman in the battle for the final OPL eligible slot.

5 weeks left in the season. Last week Roca was top scorer followed by Geezer and Maple. Roca, Geezer and Portland lead for 30d. The top 3 for the season remain Geezer, Roca and Maple. Roca cut Geezers lead to 80/wk, but has a long way to go if he is to catch the defending champion.
