Hey there - I can abandon the team for you. Thank you for playing!

Hey I'm finding myself too busy for ottoneu. How do I surrender my team?

Trade season is open again! No pickups allowed, but we can trade and cut again.

Good news! Choir Boys allocated before setting sail, so at the very least we'll have full team participation. Now, I'll work on filling the slot before the deadline, and the new owner will have the opportunity to revise. But again, worst case if it takes some time, we'll still have allocations by Nov 15.
-
Agreed. If he's willing, its better we ensure the dollars get allocated.

With arb starting in 2 days it would be awesome if Choir Boys could allocate his arb dollars then whoever takes over can make necessary adjustments.

Here are the two responses I got with a bit more detail.

Hi everyone - Choir Boys let me know that he won't be returning to the league next year. Ahead of arbitration, I wanted to temp check you all for what might be the best option in this case. I asked the Ottoneu message boards, and have a couple ideas (and welcome any others):
1.) Ask Choir Boys to allocate out on Friday as a favor before setting off
2.) Try to get someone new before the allocation period who will be a perma-member of the league
3.) Solicit the msg board for a v

Thanks! Still waiting on stat corrections- seems we may share a lead. Quite an intriguing finish either way. Fun fact I learned: if any of the potential wildcard ties had caused a Game 163, it would have counted as a regular season game for roto leagues and pushed the season end a day later!
Also, clicking the tools icon above>"calendar and finances" will show the previous year calendar, where all dates happen to be middle or end of month, so I imagine you can get a

...and am confident/hopefully that no one will put themselves in an intentionally illegal roster the last week of the year to stash/store an extra 20 guys. I'm also not going to be too impressed with the players selected for such a 'move' anyway, so part of me wants to say knock yourself out... but yea, don't I guess?
-
In terms of caps, I think the roster count makes more sense than the salary - salary will get flushed out by the cap heading into the draft, so it doesn't really do you a whole heckuva lot of good to be over/way over. As for roster to 40, I can see how that makes sense - but since this year is fully in swing, I would want to put that up to a vote to enact post-'22 (unless there are strong feelings that we NEED this NOW). I am not worried about people being over 40 if by nature of COVID/60-IL...
-
24 hr trade window also works for me.
-
In another league I'm in we have a rule that teams must get roster to 40 and salary to under $450 once the season ends. This, among other reasons, is to combat that "roster hoarding". I only bring it up as a thought rather than suggestion.
I'm also in favor of the 24 hour trade review. 👍
-
Aaaaaand he's back everyone! Shortest retirement of all time!
-
Oh interesting... I suppose you can technically set your lineups for the rest of the season knowing you won't be able to make start/sit moves nor make trades/acquisitions, and that's the behavior being referenced in the rule. As I understand it, the "roster and salary cap limits" from the rule extend to the offseason until rosters lock and the $400/40-man rule takes effect.
Also, yes to shortening the trade review window to 24 hrs.
Also, also, pour one out for the Ye
-
Thanks Kylo and FCW - very helpful. Kylo - your note is I suppose what I was thinking we should at least think about, but completely agree that I don't think we'll see that. Feels like everyone operates in good faith :)
-
Technically, rule I.c. states "At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner." So if there ever is a situation where someone is clearly abusing the rules (adding 20 extra players to have a 60 man roster before offseason cuts), you have the power and authority to undo that. But I don't think we will run into that situation.
-
Every team except Tornadoes is going to be rostering more than $400+ of players at some point this offseason. So if someone wants to nominate a player for auction in late Sept whose value is going to inflate by $1-2 plus any arb dollars from other teams, and they have the cap space and roster spot to do it, go ahead. The auction + arb are checks to make sure no one is gaming the system.
-
Yes, I did get the sense from my 'research' that it was pretty hard to game the system. Seems like there are ways though (ex. bid on multiple open auctions at the end of the year and end up way over $400 into the offseason)? Wouldn't that be sort of outside the spirit, to enter the offseason with an illegal roster?
Sidenote - gonna miss ya', Yermin! :)
-
The offseason is pretty tamper proof from my experience. From October to November, arbitration takes place where every team can allocate dollars to other teams players. Plus yearly price increases of $2 for each player ($1 for milb) is added. Then teams can trade up until the keeper deadline of Jan. 31. All budget caps are reset to $400. So in my case, I have a $424 budget, it will end up ~$534 after arb and price increases, but I will still have to get it under $400 before the draft.
-
Also - have heard from a few that there is support to shorten the trade veto/acceptance window from 48-hr to 24-hr. I am supportive of this, so plan on taking a vote after the season is over to apply the rule to 2022. Any other items that folks would like to add for consideration re: rules changes, just send me a note and we can work through the idea before formalizing any proposals.
-
Hey gang - been a while since I checked in. Hope all of you are doing well! I wanted to just tease something that I'll have more thoughts on soon, but want to invite any other POVs (especially if you're a veteran player) regarding end of year/offseason and anything we can do to mitigate any 'gaming' of roster sizes or salary cap. I don't even quite understand how this exactly would manifest - hence the 'more thoughts soon' - but sounds like this is something to potentially plan/manage for. Thx!

(2 of 2) The loan is there to help teams trade high contract players who have little value on a bad team to winning teams who value that player more. My trade return would slow my rebuild if I had to match or be close on money in a trade. For example if I asked for $30 Bregman, he's now $32 next season, plus all the arb money he'll get because I have no other good players so his contact is no longer valuable to me.
-
(1 of 2) I appreciate all the public and private feedback, it helps me learn this league a lot quicker. Value is a relative term when it comes to player contacts and also trade returns. The loan doesn't reduce Soto's salary to $13, but it allows a $62 Soto to be rostered for just the remainder of the season. A $62 Soto is probably cut or can have arb $ applied if you feel his contact is low. My focus is a trade package that will provide me value for the next several years so I can compete.
-
I don't really have a problem with it, but a $13 Juan Soto is worth...... a lot.
-
Likewise, happy to talk through any issues with the trade if anyone feels like they'd like to have a chat.

I can assure you there is no collusion between Glaus and myself as should be evident by the other trade I have made so I don't understand the reason for 2 vetoes. Please direct message me with concerns and/or help me understand the reason for the veto and I am happy to discuss this with you.

Thanks Dan! I want to be fully transparent with my cuts and the reason I want to wait is that I want to make sure to have close to a full lineup so I continue accruing stats and be fair to all teams. Each point counts for the standing and I don't want to give any unfair advantage by rolling over and not having a lineup.
-
Morning everyone - Salvy (Derrick) has asked me to make his PF Cuts tomorrow AM as he'll be away from his devices, so I'll be doing that at some point before noon tomorrow. Once I have the list of names, I'll post publicly so that there's no semblance of me sitting on such valuable information :) But yea, still will honor his request and make the cuts tomorrow (5/15 AM).
Carry on...

Welcome, Derrick!
-
Welcome mr.derrick!!
-
Hello all, I'm Derrick and excited to join the league. I'm looking forward to evaluating the team but in the mean time I'm open for business. Doesn't look like I'll compete this year so consider me in sell-mode.
-
And with that, please welcome 'derelict30' - the new proprietor of the likely soon-to-be renamed Salvy (always liked that name; love the show). Hoping that the reference to dereliction will be more ironic than coincidental... Another round of PF cuts on their way. And welcome to our new leaguemate!
-
Had a guy reach out on the message boards saying he was interested in taking it over. Looks to have history playing the game; still in sort of first-come first-served mode with the abandoned teams (sorry to your co-worker FCW!), but might be good to codify a bit the process in filling vacancies in the future.
-
aww that's too bad. I asked one of my co-workers if he'd be interested in taking it on. I sent him the roster so he can see what he'd be getting into. I'll keep y'all posted.
-
Morning everyone! Better Call Salvy has let me know that they'll be abandoning their team - so the hunt is now on for a new manager. I'm going to cast a line and vet via the community forums for the next day or so, and then may open it up as a truly abandoned team to the public. Also open to anyone suggesting a friend/family/etc. - just send me a message.
Thanks!

I actually considered starting a latecomers Otto league and have a few players interested, but I’m not sure when to hold the draft.
With all that said, I appreciate the considering in allowing me to join and I look forward to getting to know you and to have a fun 2021 season.
I forgot one of the most important things about me. I have been a HUGE Dodgers fan for 50 years.
Go Blue Crew!
-
I started playing in Otto around six years ago played in a few FGs Points leagues with this being my first 5x5 on Otto. I also play in two Scoresheet leagues and two hometown leagues where I co manage with my best friend since first grade.
I took a break from Otto at the end of last season, but realized how much I missed this format, so I’m back. I wish I had never left, but I can’t change that.
I’m looking to join another Otto league so keep me in mind if you know if an opening.
-
Thank again for the Welcome messages. Since I’m the newbie, I should probably let you know a little bit about who I am. My name is Tim and I live I Southern California. I may be the oldest or one of the oldest in the league (born in the 60s). I’ve been active in playing fantasy baseball and football since around 1993, which based on my overall records, doesn’t mean much.
-
So everyone is aware of latest; Choir Boys cuts are all in the penalty-free spirit, and will bypass waivers and are $0 FA (per Rules). When cutting initially, I don't think any of us realized it needed to be one press of the "Cut" button, though obviously with timing we see that was the intent. So Allen, Pham, Lucchesi, and potentially others will enter the FA pool without cap penalty, and without minimum required bid (other than $1, regardless).
