The management and fans are pissed, deflated , sort of bewilldered . They brought in best friend Jon Jay, Brother in law Alonnso, manager speaks spanish . Chicagoland is 2nd largest hispanic community after LA. Large Porto Rican village (not dominican but food and culture similaraties) . Their contract offer was insentive orientated , not as guarenteed 300 million as SD. They probably would have named a street after him at some point. White sox are the charlie brown of teams

So you know when you open AtBat and go to the “News” page? I have to admit that still opens to the Red Sox for me, with the Braves, Nats, and Giants in the other “favorite” slots. So, yes. And I’m glad to hear the CWS fans are pissed—I hope it’s at the right people, the White Sox management who were never going to sign either of these guys.
-
no, one week no vitamins or pain killers, nothing. no beet juice even, nothing that thins the blood
-
Pat , do you watch or follow any other team or division at all??
-
I don’t think the NL east is the “best” division, but it sure could be the most interesting. Though in the last day the Braves are trying to make it less interesting, with Folty and Gohara joining Soroka on the sidelines and Touki learning that maybe walks aren’t that bad if the alternative is getting knocked around by the Tigers mighty offense. I’m worried about “winning” the Keuchel sweepstakes if these injuries, esp Folty, are serious.
-
I wonder if SF feels as jilted as White Sox nation does. I see Giants as last place behind Arizona and SD finishing 3rd.
-
I think AL-East is still stronger at the top 2 teams and even with the Marlins the NL-E is stronger at the bottom (come on, the O's, really). Overall, you have to give it to the Division that's stronger at the top. Nats might win 100 games, don't see anyone else in NL-East doing it. Yanks and Red Sox could both win 100 games.
-
Is the NL East the best division in baseball? 3 really good teams and whatever the Mets might be. The abject shittiness of the Marlins probably drags them below the ALE.
-
I bet Charles has had some at somepoint
-
Its paczki season !! Very unhealthy , but decadent. For those of you that have access to them. I get as many as i want after surgery.
-
They'll walk the hell out of him
-
DC has best pitching in nl east, i have them at 94 wins and nl east champs
-
Nice work by the schedule makers; PHI opens against the Braves, then @WAS, 5 games against the Nats by April 10. Will any of the Nats Ps knock him down? I could never tell if he was a popular teammate.

Harper is a Phillie fyi

I don’t really participate in the beer talk. I like to drink it, but I’m damn sure not trying to make it ow wait in line for it or drive across state lines for it. I’ll grab a yunegling out of the fridge if I have a thirst
-
To get back to baseball, Kloobs I still think you're wrong about pitching prospects having negligible value!
-
Thanks Joe, no need to send the pdf, it's freely downloadable.
-
Worked half a day today, heading out for bike ride now. Just wanted to close the loop on this topic Kloobs. And have a little more tolerance, I have to put up with far more beer talk than you have to put up with Se talk. And just to be clear, I'm not asking for even one word of the beer talk to be withheld in the future.
-
And Kloobs, I suspect Joe is still on leave.

Thanks Joe, no need to send the pdf, it's freely downloadable.

What the hell has happened to this message board? Could y’all like create a text chain or slack channel for this discussion

DHA is actually transferred from the brain of the mother to the brain of the fetus if maternal dietary intake of DHA is insufficient, and it's that transfer from the maternal brain that is now believed to trigger post-partum depression.
-
And I guess I'd be remiss not to point out that the positive correlation between maternal seafood consumption and childhood outcomes is also likely influenced by the enhanced access to long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (for example DHA, a deficiency of which is now implicated in post-partum depression) and other nutrients found in seafood, in addition to Se.

Best recent gateway to the entire literature: Ralston, N.V.C. 2018. Effects of soft electrophiles on selenium physiology. Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 127:134-144. I can send you an electronic copy of the paper if you'd like.

errr... freshwater fish consumption
-
MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that Bryce Harper is headed to the Phillies.
ESPN's Jeff Passan hears that it will be a 13-year, $330 million contract with no opt-outs, a new North American sports record for overall dollars committed to one player. Harper will also receive a full no-trade clause. There was a last-minute push by the Giants and Dodgers, but reports have pegged the Phillies as the highest bidder for weeks, maybe even months, and they've finally landed the 26-year-old superstar he

...err, my adult son who is reproducing and my adult daughter who may begin sometime in the near future.

... for their pre-pregnancy fresh fish consumption, just to be safe? Don't know if anyone in this league is still reproducing, but I find these finding interesting even for my son and daughter.

... increasing fetal brain selenoenzyme activity. The seafood provides a benefit that Se supplement tablets cannot because of biochemical differences critical for the selenium to pass the maternal/fetal blood brain barrier. Importantly, while seafood nearly universally has health beneficial Se to Hg ratios, the ratios are highly variable in freshwater fish and therefore no reliable public health generalizations are possible. Seems like maybe pregnant women should substitute seafood for...
-
OK, the last part of the Hg paradigm revolution: Recent work has found that increasing maternal seafood consumption during pregnancy is associated with a 10 pt IQ benefit in their children, in addition to improved neurological development, motor development, verbal intelligence, perception, social behavior, reduced inattention (future baseball fans no doubt), and diminished hyperactivity. This appears to be due to almost all seafood having a molar excess of Se over Hg therefore substantially...

The current situational sounds very nice. I only got to try their stuff because someone muled a keg out West for a festival and brought some cases of cans too.
-
My wife and I tried to visit Monday Night’s “garage” brewery on the westside beltline trail recently but they were closed for a private event (we had to drink kombucha instead, quite a let down). Their barrel aging is mostly there. I’m surprised you got any of this out there. The “Situational Ethics” is very...situational, depending on what barrel they’re using. Current one is a rum barrel gingerbread spiced imperial stout, 13.8%. “Hotlanta” might still be available in cans, I?
-
The IPA was everything you dream of in a Hazy flavor-wise but no haze and a clean west-coast mouthfeel. Super dank and fruity, but not like drinking milk-beer. The stout was like a 8% smoky coca cola. Sounds weird, I know, but excellent stuff. Too bad I won't be finding it out here again anytime soon.
-
While we are recommending beers, for those of you in Atlanta or in their distribution area, you probably already know, but... I just had a chance to try two beers from Monday Night Brewing and they both blew me away. A 4X Dry Hopped IPA called "Don't Call it Hotlanta" and a Bouron Barrel Aged Cinnamon Stout called "Situational Ethics"
-
For West Coast IPA style lovers ( brent) , may i reccomend Ballest Point's Fathom. Its semi sessionable at 6%, good balance, easy drinking ,golden, clear, strong hop presence. You can have 4 or 5 and not be in the bag.

Brew and Chug 🍻's trade block has been updated!

Charles, how can a team named Tradeomatic have an empty trade block?!

Tradeomatic's trade block has been updated!

Is it easy for the rest of the league to tell when I'm on annual leave... sorry folks. Heading out for a bike ride now, so the chat board will be safe the remainder of the afternoon!!
-
Messages are hitting the board so fast, that now I have to clarify that the "last comment" I was referring to was the Task 1 comment.
-
Use less sodium and increase citrus/vinager/wine to fool your brain. I used low salt and lemon zest, white balsamic in my chicken picatta last night
-
You two were the technician dream team and I had you at salaries comparable to what I have Acuna and Soto at in the other league. There was a hell of a lot of surplus value plying the Tulare Basin back in the day!!
-
Okay, Crunch, that last comment is the essence of why I worship you and Dr. Bumper!! I'm so unworthy!!
-
“All-natural” ingredients, BoY, “completely unprocessed” except grinding in natural stone grinders. That other stuff just contributes to the unique terroir of the salt. You think the Camargue produces pure NaCl? SF Bay?
-
Yes, it’s time to monetize Task 1. But your idea, though it sounds a little more “ethical” and “science-based”, is just too complicated and expensive. And that’s not really how food/supplement marketing works. Let’s just sell the salt with some perfectly honest but meaningless claims about its Se content and the importance of the Hg:Se ratio, without making any explicit claims about this Se. There’s enough already in the tuna so it’s not a problem, right?
-
Damn, forgot about all the other crap that's in that SJV salt!! Better add a Cadillac version of liability insurance to the business plan... LOL
-
Brew, that sounds like some sort of Canadian abomination. Sausage has no place in the gravy on chicken-fried steak. If you absolutely must have more fat in your diet you should make the gravy with heavy cream.
-
Not sure if you come up with your million-dollar idea or not Crunch? I think the key chemical stoichiometry is between methyl-mercury and organo-selenium (primarily selenomethionine). That damn SJV salt is primarily inorganic selenium. But you're on to the right idea, just substitute selenized yeast for the SJV salt in your plan. The SJV salt can be used to prepare broths to culture the yeast in!! Let's find some start-up money and put our business plan into action!!

Hammer, we try to do the same thing. And like Zombie Dust said, the certifications are nice when you don’t/can’t know the supply chain, but I’d take knowing the producers over certification any time.
