Since this is a dynasty league, I would say yes. In a year where WS2020 is very unlikely to compete, its reasonable to trade away fairly priced stars for future potential. And he got from me an uber prospect who'll be up before Vlad. Vlad is being drafted very highly this year which equates to a salary at least 2x what Eloy is at. So, yeah, fair in that context.
-
I think an interesting change that is probably not workable in Ottoneu would be to make it similar to MLB. A traded player's salary is pro rated. For example, in the Scherzer trade, the player receiving Scherzer would have to fit his full contract into their cap since it is going on in the preseason. But if the trade happened at the midway point, each side would pay half. If it happens 1/3 of the way through the season, the original owner (OO) would pay 1/3 and the new owner would pay 2/3.

I don't think we should veto any of the trades. I think we should look at the loan system for future seasons. The loan money adds such an incentive to the "win now" side. Under the current rules, I can't fault either side for making those trades.

So would you say sox is competing at his best by giving up before the season starts? And I say they are all no good, and I placed a veto on each one, just to be clear. But, I also accept the democratic process off the allow or veto part of the trade.

Lots of discussion below on the trades. Seems to say some are good, some no good. I say they are all good or all no good. Seeing that the Greinke trade went through, I'd expect the Scherzer and Votto trade will too. Anything else is just a sliding scale interpretation of what's a fair balance and what isn't between two teams competing at their best on level playing field. Dangerous territory. I guess we will see how this plays out.

Exactly. The loan is what's killer. Effectively scherzer on a $17 salary. Votto on a $12 salary (though I'm not sure I'd want that one personally.) Without the loans, these trades are about giving up long term smart choices for near term reward while working within the spectrum of the same salary cap as everyone else.

I didn't love the LG and sox trade, but I thought it's almost fair. The HC/Sox trade with the loan implication is a big deal, 1 month before the season and gives HC a big advantage this year. Even if Scherzer goes to the IR and HC cuts, he still gets extra money. My biggest point is this: No matter how much you all justify the trade, how many of you would trade 2 prospects to receive Scherzer and a $30 loan. EVERYONE WOULD, in a heartbeat, in essence this is the issue.

Now it is getting kind of silly. I think the salary loans break the system.

Ditto. Scherzer is helpful this year but I may be priced out of him next year unless I make some moves. I am super high on Eloy which is why I paid so much for him and kept him this year. I want going to give him up, at all. WS2020 knew that and so had to offer big value this year for me to engage in the discussion. And LGs move made my SP need urgent! think it's a balanced trade in the context of a long term league with invested owners. Happy to see this group in it for the long haul.

To the question of rebuilding, is it really any different than team deciding to focus on acquiring prospects in a first-year draft rather than compete in the first year? Because we had a few teams do that last year. Other teams focused on 2018 (and now 2019), but those teams (mine included) are going to be at a disadvantage in future years. WS2020 has set himself up very nicely for 2020 and beyond by acquiring some of the best prospects in MLB, starting with the initial draft.
-
In terms of Jimenez, I think that he's clearly the #2 prospect in fantasy baseball. He has lousy defense while Tatis is above-average, but that doesn't matter in a 5x5 since Jimenez's defense isn't going to keep him off the field. I think it was a fair trade for Scherzer that made sense for both HBC and WS2020.
-
I initially asked for Scherzer but WS2020 countered with Greinke. Greinke only needs to be my 3rd best SP and I have depth to cover if he falls apart. I concede that there's a chance that Cease outperforms Greinke in 2019, at least on a per inning basis. But it's hard to trust rookie pitchers. I also got Piscotty back, which upgrades my OF5. So I feel pretty good about the trade, even though post-2019 will be rough going since I probably can't afford Greinke beyond this year.
-
I like Cease a lot better than Greinke. Who knows when a sp is going to go in the tank. That would be my concern with Greinke. His avg. fb was down to 89.6 mph and his swing k was at 10.8%. Sry LG just dont trust the man. I actually like that trade for Sox's. Everyone has an opinion on trades. I see why both sides made the trade tho. Just posting to make a point of discussion. On another note I found the oldest league on Ottoneu. It is league #1.
-
Open discussion on competitive balance is always good for the league. SLA u are right on Milb ranks him #3 i have him at 2 because I like his bat a little better than Tatis.
-
My question to the league is who doesn't do this trade from HC's perspective? Because if everyone one of you would, is that a fair and balanced trade that is good for the league? Personally I veto the trade, but I won't be upset if it goes through, I just think a discussion on the matter would be interesting. Plus we have a month to waste. :)

#2 in MiLB ranks already at $16. The beauty is the league has veto power, if they choose to use it. I have no problem with tanking what-so-ever, it's a valid quick rebuild option. I have issue with doing it a month before the season begins and giving teams $30 loans, along with all star players for potential. I have no problem with HC, I do that trade in a heartbeat if I were him and I believe any other team does so as well.

In my opinion sometimes it is a difficult decision on when to start the rebuild. The only thing I will ever bring back to the body for a vote is a dump trade in which one team is looking to give its player to another team for financial gain(league prize). I think we all have opinions on trades and the idea of HC adding Max isnt doing anything for my title hopes but I understand why Sox's made the trade. Eloy is #2 in MiLb rankings. I actually like Sox's end of the trade with LG.
-
Are we all good with a team going into full tank mode before the season even begins? These trades have some massive salary implications a month before the season even starts. I get tanking midway through the season, but this...

Draft starting at 805
-
Any owner may propose any amendment to this consitution between the end of the regular season (on or about Septemer 30th) and the start of Ottoneu arbitration (on or about October 15th). An amendment requires the support of three quarters of the League to be adopted (i.e., 9 out of 12).
-
Guys after the draft and before the season I would like to go over the possibility of putting out some information to give the leagues structure a little more clarity. Walt (LG) has a great constitution in one of his leagues and I would like to get some of the wording in so everyone is on the same page. I will list an example above. Again this league is run by all 12 teams.
-
My god gunman u are living in a prison.

Please try and get to the draft room a few minutes early. Anyone not attending please contact me so we are not waiting for U to get into the draft room. I know some teams are up against the cap. Thanks.

I reminded my wife earlier today, who wasn't happy because she wanted me to take care of the baby tomorrow night while she went to a craft night. She was not impressed when I told her that I only needed to fill 6 roster spots. And she doesn't even know that one of my keepers was Wily Peralta...

Draft tomorrow! Just a reminder......
