Martin not Smith.
-
Brett Smith as well.
-
Tanner Scott and Tanner Hauck available
-
Not dead yet!
-
Here comes Generous again….
-
Machado is available for the right deal. I'm looking for younger players at 2B, OF, RP positions. Not necessarily minor leaguers though.
-
Hey commish...can you abandon Just a Piece of Metal? They haven't been active in about a month. Maybe we can get a good owner in that can make some moves before the trade deadline.
-
Going into sell mode looking for prospects.
-
I'm rebuilding around my current SP staff and Stephenson, Bichette, Machado, Realmuto and a few others. I would like to do a one for one on Marte, preferably a player younger than 30, but not a project per se. Same for Iglesias. Winker not quite sure to do with him.
-
Not sure. The only thing I can think of is maybe you didn't click the box next to his name. I've done that before.
-
I made a waiver claim on Ashcraft yesterday..any idea why it did not go thru..
-
Not sure what I did to my relievers but they hate me...
-
Blockbuster between 2 contenders!!! Love to see it…
-
You're right BPM you don't HAVE to explain yourself, in a vacuum with Bryant's injuries and what not it seems like a normal enough deal for a rebuilding team. But I think given that the players were available for just salary space mere hours before the deal I for one did appreciate you outlining your process. I never want to discourage trades as it's one of my favorite parts of the game but given the unique sequence of events some of us were just confused.
-
Not that I have to explain myself for ordinary trade to my opinion (with Bryant's stats). Didn't want to spend on these prospects when they were on the board I guess (not sure I even saw them or had interest). Then the trade offer came in and I looked at them a little bit more, I've been trying to trade Bryant for a while at 30$, so agreed to trade, nothing more to it than that dudes.
-
Looks like it. Not sure why BPM didn’t bid on the prospects with his cap space if he wanted them…I wanted them that’s why I started the auctions…
-
Did Kris Bryant get traded for two prospects who just got picked up today - two prospects whom the acquirer did not bid on at auction despite $19 of available cap space? I don't get it.
-
Fire sale, if you are interested in my players, send me offers
-
That’s fine with me Papi, I just want to make sure as a league we’re all on the same page 👍🏻
-
Sorry, but there are no grey areas. It's always been like that, it's fair for everyone, you just have to be careful. Maybe it could be sais to new owners when they get in a league that this can happen, what you're allowed to do for cap space while bidding or claiming players so there are no surprises when it happens
-
Clearly the majority here are okay with what went down but if someone is upset then that may mean we need to establish something so the gray areas aren’t as murky?
-
I do think that maybe this season is a good time to establish a few guidelines like maybe 12 hours to get legal after an auction, more strict rules about noms during the draft auction and mandatory arbitration. When I threw this question in the Ottoneu slack there was some sympathy towards PM’s, especially regarding the gray area that was me waiting for the Gleyber auction to end.
-
If you had an issue with this rule, shouldn’t it have been called out in year one and not year 5?
-
I think it's very clear in the rules, it happens all the time, no rules broken here
-
I typically run pretty light on cap space and I’d venture to guess half of my pickups over 4+ years in this league have taken me briefly over my cap. If this were outside the rules I think I would have already been politely asked to leave the league. :)
-
Just to clear up any confusion, the most relevant section of the rules is section V.d. below. This isn’t a grey area - what Yoshi’s doing is explicitly allowed: “Teams are allowed to bid such that they would go over roster or cap limits if they win the auction. If they do win the auction, they will have to get under roster and cap limits before they can set their lineups, make trades, or bid on other auctions”
-
I hear you on the language of the rules, but I'll point out this has happened multiple times in the past. I even did this last year when I got Acuna, and had to cut 7 players afterwards to get back under cap. I think the precedent has been set in this league on several occasions, so I don't plan on implementing any punishments.
-
I also don’t think it is fair to rationalize his short term harm for long term gain. Yes, he will go a week without all his players getting every start, but he gained a player 98.5% owned and on average worth $20 from the waivers.
-
This is the language of the rules. Section I, Point C: "At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner." I think that is a shity job for a commisioner to have to dole out penalties and Sixto you can do what you want, but there is a clear rule.I within the rules cut a player and bid to my max of $15 to be beat out by someone with less cap space. Again, keep h
-
I don't really want to get trapped into a message board argument, not really my interest. I do the job of comissioner in home leagues and know it is a pain in the ass. Keep Marte on his team, that's fine. I will play out this season and still believe I have a good chance to win.I don’t need to go back and forth and will not complain about this after today. The league should run however it wants.
-
Yoshi broke no rules…the cap flexibility is standard in all ottoneu leagues. Even if he’s over the cap for longer than a day he’d be within the rules.
-
Good point, Billboard. Given he'll be back under cap all within 1 day, I think this was all fair game.
-
I think he’ll be under once the Gleyber auction finishes.
-
So while it's unfortunately not everyone realized they could do what Yoshi did, I don't think it was against the rules & if anything his team will suffer for it if he doesn't quickly get back under cap. Open to other opinions though if people feel differently
-
Yoshi's already been cutting players to get back under the cap. Obviously there's room to go, but I don't think it's reasonable to have expected him to shed salary before he knew if he would win the auction. On top of that, since Yoshi can't set lineups until he's back under the cap, I think that's punishment enough since he won't be able to actually play Marte, or move guys like JRam/Mookie/Logan Webb off his bench.
-
No, rules have always been the same, you can bid as much as you want and take yourself over the cap, but if you’re over the cap then you have to cut players to get back down. And your roster locks once you’re over, so you can’t make any transactions other than cuts (including even setting your lineup).
-
Maybe I missed an obscure rule in Ottoneu but with the Ketel Marete auction Maybe I missed something but with the auction of Marte putting Yoshi $10 over the cap on a free agent. I thought Ottoneu rules didn't allow you to knowingly go over the cap of $1 per roster spot. I would have gladly have bid more, but I thought you could only bid for free agents with the money you have.
-
Several teams do have enough money to put him up for auction.
-
Obviously it would be to my benefit but still I'm a little surprised no one has started a Torres auction...
-
Have a surplus of decent starters whom I'm willing to trade for MI or quality OF.. Here's your chance, make that move..
-
Thanks Commish, good move for the league I think
-
Awesome thanks Sixto much appreciated! Also thanks to everyone who chimed in.
-
Thanks commish!
-
We're all good to go, 24hr trade review period has been implemented.
And I agree with the folks pushing back on a similar shortening for free agent pickups. It'd obviously be nice to know sooner, but think it's good to give people more time to evaluate players before bidding & reduces likelihood of people streaming towards the end of the season.
-
Looks like there's general agreement to update the trade review window to 24hrs, so I'll look into making the change. Right now I don't actually see the option to change this in the league settings, but I've reached out to Niv and will update when I hear back.
-
Thanks. It is just frustrating waiting 48 hours only to find you have been outbidded. Sometimes multiple times. 🙂
-
Yeah so the Auction and Waiver times are standard Ottoneu rules that are set up that way for a reason. The trade time process has options set by the league/commissioner, it seems like we've got a decent amount of support to change it from 48 to 24 hours but we can wait for the commish to chime in and maybe a few other teams as well.
-
I'm in favor of the change for trades, and waivers are already 24 hours. You can't change auctions to 24 hours, and even if it were an option I'd be strongly against that change.
-
Can we do it for waivers and auctions as well?
-
I’d support the change as well.
