I think you meant to type "draft days"
-
True. I wouldn't be happy if draft day took less than 4 hours.

-
People do seem to be making aggressive cuts so far. All things being equal, I prefer it that way. I think it's more fun to have more good players in the pool come draft day.
-
While I don't mind bidding people have cut at least 3 outfielders I would have traded pitching or prospects for at the prices they owned them.

And I'd keep at least $20 of cap going in for prospects and sleepers no one saw coming (Fernando Rodney's of the world).
-
I made the mistake of carrying 17 minor leaguers on my roster to start last year. By June I had 7 players on the 30/60 Day DL and found myself making poor trades to try and stay competitive.
-
That's really helpful, thanks. Anything else I should be asking about? Kindly keep those tips coming.
-
In any case, I aim to leave about $10 of free cap space and make more if I need it. Remember, you can always trade guys or trade *for* cap space. Plus you can always cut guys for 50% relief on their salaries.
-
Leaving $20 of cap space for in-season signings seems a little high to me. I can't remember an instance of a guy getting auctioned off during the season for more than $4-$5. Maybe guys who get auctioned after they're drafted and gain ottoneu eligibility?
-
About 7 SPs and RPs sounds about right to me. I've generally tended towards having more MLB-level guys on my roster, but depending on your strategy for a given year, you may find it more worthwhile to leave more spots for MiLBers.
-
Thx Aroldis.
-
SABR: Yes, I'd definitely suggest leaving some cap space for cutting/signing guys during the season. I'd say at least $20. For SPs/RPs, I try to keep ~7 of each, 5 in the lineup and 2 in reserve.
-
SABR Rattled's trading block has been updated!
-
And any advice on how many SPs and RPs I should carry? I've searched for articles that hit this, but can't find anywhere.
-
So, does anyone have any advice for us noobs on roster construction and payroll? Specifically, is it a good idea to leave some payroll cap space going into the season, for bidding on free agents?
-
If they had traded each of those guys individually, especially at the trade deadline, it's hard to imagine they wouldn't have gotten a lot more in return.
-
Eric Karabell on todays ESPN Baseball Today - "I wouldn't call this a fair trade. Like, if it was done in a Fantasy League, people would be revolting."
-
As a Torontonian coming into this league in last place, I wouldn't mind either.
-
i'm willing to play the part of the blue jays
-
Never gonna happen -- everyone here has at least a slight preference for winning over abject suckitude.
-
I demand to see at least one crazy Marlinsesque trade this offseason. Get planning!
-
I think we can all agree that *everyone* here is nice. Obviously, that's not going to stop me from holding huge grudges against all of you for your arbitration allocations.
-
I hope you guys think I'm nice too :)
-
He's definitely nicer than me ;)
-
You may be the nicest person in the league
-
I'll have you know, I only allocated $1 to Mr.Trout.
-
You guys don't need to give me more increases just because I was in second :p
-
Thanks for doing that. I think I might rework some of my allocations now.
-
In terms of number of players affected, Fowlers for Algernon actually has the most with 12 people up for increases.
-
That's actually really crazy. I wonder why that would be. I could understand it more if everyone decided that Gio Gonzalez needed to go way up, but your allocations are spread around quite a lot.
-
That entire exercise was, of course, to point out that the league find my 6th place team just as threatening as the 1st and 2nd place teams ;)
-
Profar, Pro Good($19,9), Deshields will be Quite Operational($14,10), Anibal Collective($12,12)
-
Nyjerz Wit Attitudes($30,1), Tom Emanski's All-Stars($29,6), Weaver Feaver($29,2), The WILLderness($25,8), Fowlers for Algernon($25,3), Yu Sneaky Darvish, Yu($25,4), Aroldis Away, Aroldat Away($23,5), SABR Rattled($22,11), LaH to the Rizzo($22,7)
-
So here's the list, sorted by dollars increased and including season standing
-
Everyone but The WILLderness has placed their arbitration dollars, so I took a snapshot to see who's most affected (and so I can tell EXACTLY who Will puts his dollars on :P)
-
You know you're in a good league when the guy that's absolutely dominated the league is talking about competitive balance!
-
Even though it doesn't benefit me this year, I definitely think it's better that the teams that finish lower in the standings get a little advantage the following year. Rules that are good for competitive balance are good for the league as a whole
