Hunting: Cashner's doing it wrong.
-
*sigh* Andrew Cashner back on the DL without even stepping foot on a field. He's magic.

Honestly in those cases of moving a superstar for prospects you're also trading away salary and generating cap space. Sometimes having the cap space is more valuable if you have a decent backup and can make a bigger splash in the auctions.
-
I can see that case for sure- vetoing the expensive superstar for useless prospect trades, but, for me, not for this particular case: I think Marisnick has a good chance of having real value, and last place Anibal could use a leg up in the superstar dept
-
Let's just leave it at the fact I'm very happy no one has had a trade vetoed this offseason, but I've had several votes against trades I've made in the last year, so people with have their reasons. I wouldn't worry about them until a veto happens.
-
Some of us may have better strategies (Nyjerz) than others (the rest of us), but I see everyone actively trying to find success. Everyone's done pretty well as far as I'm concerned!
-
With this being a fangraphs league, and not an ESPN/Yahoo league, I tend to think of all of us as being slightly more "aware". Combined with the fact it's a for-pay league, I don't see anyone going out of their way to intentionally sabotage their team.
-
You're essentially saying both sides of that deal came out worse. But shouldn't those owners be entitled to do that if they both see it as beneficial to their team? We each have different offseason objectives.

I need to stop sending messages from my phone on here. The auto-correct gets out of hand. Also, sorry for taking a shot at Brett Jackson; his free swinging ways got my pitchers a lot of K's last season.
-
And yes, that is why I notched a veto against the Longoria trade for an very likely future TJ contender and the Marlins version of Brett Jackson.
-
Just saying if a team had a star or potential star caliber player making $100 mil. and moved them for two mediocre A level prospects the commissioners off would be on the phone in a second asking questions.
-
Don't know why my phone decided to repost that hours later.
-
Trading a player you can't afford to a team that won't be immediately competitive for prospects that have little or no fantasy potential. So the expensive player doesn't go back to FA pool.
-
also, as someone who traded away some big salaries, i'll throw out the additional argument that by trading those guys to other teams i'm depriving myself of being able to cut them and try to bid for them at a lower salary.
-
i think it's up to each team to decide if a trade makes them competitive or not, whether the prospects have potential or value, and whether having the rights to an expensive player is value on its own.

I'm pretty much against vetoing trades unless you think there's collusion involved. I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on other valid reasons for a veto.

I think a pre-season Power Ranking could be fun and let me spend more of my time doing things associated with Fantasy Baseball. Seconded!

Unrelated to that, with as many roster moves as we've all made, after the draft I think it would be cool if we had a "power ranking" poll to see if the league can predict the end-of-the-season standings.
-
Solid detective work! I'm willing to do my part and still do some wheeling-and-dealing!
-
cmon guys, we can get two more trades involving 15 players to take the lead!
-
no vetoed trades, but a few votes for veto, which i'm curious about
-
Have we had any trades vetoed during this offseason?
-
That's among 85 total public leagues. Only five leagues have more than 10 trades, and only 6 have moved more than 26 players.
-
Since the start of the offseason, league #52 ("Bull Durham League") leads with 22 trades (95 total players moved), we are second with 20 total trades (81 total players moved).
-
so, I used some computer tricks to gather information from the public ottoneu leagues (i.e. those you can view just by replacing the '90' in our league's URL with a different #). Of these, we are the 2nd most active...

not to be too nosey but can i throw it out there that if one of us votes to veto a trade they comment in the forum about their justification? it could rally others to prevent an uncompetitive trade, but it could help our transactions be clear to all.
-
Get your trades in with Nyjerz now. After the Mets trade Dickey at the Winter Meetings this week, we may not hear from Nyjerz for a long while..
-
Does anyone have a direct connection to any of RotoGraphs guys? I would be interested to see an ottoneu-activity summary. We HAVE to be one of the more active (in terms of roster moves) leagues ottoneu has!
-
It's obviously some complex formula involving a certain number of Mets that must be kept on the roster at any one time.
-
and to think he won without many of his cornerstone pieces producing much (tulo, a-gon, latos, bautista)
-
I guess you don't need to fix anything when you're on top.
-
his lack of activity is a little suspicious, isn't it?
-
Hmmm... I feel like we're all making a mistake and Nyjer is sitting back, watching us, and biding his time to threepeat.
-
I've come to the conclusion that I am far to obsessed with players who take walks and pitchers who don't walk anyone. Also OBP & GB%

This can only end with us starting a sub-Roto Graphs tumblr which covers our league exclusively

i do not like the trade-me-profar idea
-
i like the mid-season trade retrospective idea
-
I'm having fun today.
-
How do I always manage to forget to type a word? "...then at different parts OF THE SEASON, review who..."
-
It would be cool if we could someone document all these deals, then at different parts review who "won" each swap
