What really stands out is his K/9: 8.86... Niekro never topped 7.14, Wakefield 7.9, Hough 7.03, Wilhelm reached 8.7, but again: different era
-
Well, okay, true, going by WHIP, Dickey's 1.053 bests any put up by Niekro in that time, tho he had a 1.027 at age 30 (5.9 bWAR). Wakefield also had a VERY aberrant season of 1.053 (age 35). Wilhelm had lots better, but pitched b4 the mound was lowered.
-
Wow, I did not notice IP- that is SO MANY. I'm pretty sure there aren't that many IP's in a baseball season, among all teams COMBINED.
-
Those numbers are a little misleading. The year Niekro had 9.2 WAR he pitched 334 innings and miraculously had a HR/9 half his career average. If we base it on rate stats, I don't think there's any question Dickey's 2012 is the best year by aknuckleballer
-
Can't remember where it was posted but Eno Sarris linked to an article this morning that showed domes + artificial grass historically improve knuckleballers overall numbers. Dickey could be BETTER this year!
-
Knucklers seem to thrive post-35: Charlie Hough had his best year (by bWAR) at 37: 6.0; Hoyt Wilhelm at 36 (7.4); Wakefield 38 (4.2)
-
Dickey got me thinking about knuckleballers- check this out: as amazing as Dickey's season was (5.6 bWAR), from ages 35-40 Phil Niekro never earned below 6.4 bWAR, twice 8.6+
-
Apparently 'Screw Cancer' is actually Dave Cameron's league...which would actually make all kinds of sense.
-
And for the record: I'm super pumped to see Bruce Chen pitch as the Chinese ace!
-
How are we gonna compete with a league named 'Screw Cancer'??
-
Tell me about it! I'm like "WTF, RA Dickey? I'm not paying you 13 imaginary dollars to get hurt in the offseason!" I can't imagine how real team owners feel.
-
Every time I hear another player announcing they are going to play in the WBC my only thought is how it will affect my fantasy season.
-
My goal this year, is to have 25 players on the 60 DL simultaneously. Replacing them all with 0 WAR/ $1 scrubs.
-
Doubtful -- the average 12th place team in ottoneu scored 11846.21 points last year. Every team in this league is far away from being so bad that they're dragging the whole league down toward average.
-
Actually, that's probably who I'll be dragging out of the top 10.
-
We're 5th on the ottoneu league power rankings! http://ottoneufan.tumblr.com/post/40523382560/2012-fangraphs-points-league-power-rankings

#4 overall? Nice work, commish. I hereby dedicate my season to dragging you out of the top 10.
-
I'm feeling pretty good about that, too. Also, the 20th ranked team is named "I Dunn your Uggla sister." Hilarious.
-
Now he's posted the top teams for all leagues. Nyjer ranks #4. I'm feeling a lot better about being beat, right now.

you're* man I wish we could edit messages
-
So your saying I'm a Bartolo Colon, Barry Zito,Tim Lincecum, and Johan Santana away from first? I need to make some trades!
-
More remarkable Nyjerz is that the rest of us are as close to you in the standings as we were considering your staff consists of the Cy Young winners from the past few years.
-
I'm not quite sure how some of the leagues ended up with so few total points. I guess maybe half the teams were dead and they didn't get close to their IP and games limits?
-
I'm sure he'll be up post break. Astros need a 1B & a DH now, and I doubt they'll be fielding a better option than him 50 games into the season.
-
So if my team had been in the STS Readers League it would have won? You guys need to ease up this year.
-
Sucks to be Singleton, but it might mean he doesn't hit the Majors until 2014 instead of a late 2013 callup that will cost me an extra dollar!
-
The crazy thing about those league-wide stats is that we had the 4th highest total points scored, with one 1 person in "the race"!
-
Whew. Looks like I dodged a bullet back in 2011 after trading him away!
-
Sorry to whomever has Singleton, but I was panicking I had lost J.D. Martinez for 1/2 the season (after his injury return) when I saw the "Astros Prospect" suspension headlines.
-
Which, btw, is the same league that the guy who made the spreadsheet is part of, so, as with us, they were motivated to see how their activity compares to other leagues...
-
It's the same league 52 'Bull Durham League' that has been non-stop this offseason- my count is 57 trades since the end of the season, so 207 for the whole year seems right.
-
I've been browsing through a couple of leagues that look like all the teams are owned by one person (or all use the same owner name). So it could be someone shifting around players to their own ends
-
Woah, that 207 trades has to be a typo, right?
-
You guys should take a look at this. Nice to be #2 points league. Of note... their is a league with 207 trade!?! tmblr.co/ZHsiJtbI4KAS
