That confuses two separate concepts, though- the "3 true outcomes" does not equal "3 things the pitcher controls". HR,K, and BB are controlled not only by the pitcher but also the catcher, ump, park, & of course the batter.
-
But a HR is a guaranteed bad thing, whereas a well-driven liner to the gap for a double or triple might be because of a defensive alignment (double down the line past a diving 3B) and might not lead to a run. It's about what the pitcher controls.
-
The problem with a FIP-based scoring system is that FIP is meant to be more of a predictive stat than a descriptive stat. This is why fWAR for pitchers is dumb, since WAR is generally used descriptively. --end rant--
-
It's more that I think HR incur way too steep a penalty. I advocate decreasing the HR penalty & making up for it w/ a penalty for non-HR extra-base hits (which are almost always well-driven balls & thus indicative of the pitcher failing to do his job.)
-
Maybe consecutive BBs should be a touch more negative? First walk is -3, if the next batter is walked, it's -3.1, etc.
-
...another chapter in my ongoing frustration with ottoneu's pitcher scoring system...
-
Which got me thinking- a pitcher that gives up 4 BB in a row would earn -12 points, but if instead he served 1 HR, he would earn -12.3, even though the former would have to be considered a much worse performance (esp since bases would still be loaded).
-
He had a no-hitter going! Leave him in to get the W, ERA, and TWTW!
-
I didn't start him fortunately, but was surprised to see that Brandon Morrow's historically bad start (8 BB's in 2.2 IP) amounted to only -2.27 points...
-
Congratulations! Have an amazing time!

Yelich Bin Ein Marliner's trade block has been updated!

Congrats, DeShields!
-
Lineups set for next week and a half, off to get married. Have a good week watching my team sink into the cellar; I'll be in Jamaica.
-
Oh, that Eddie Murphy! So much talent.

Rendon Perignon's trade block has been updated!

So I'm working on a theory, that in offseason Ian Desmond hit a gypsy's child with his car and she cursed his glove with the spirit of Jose Offerman.
-
gentlemen, your 2014 New York Metropolitans
-
What, are you an AARP rep or something?

Bartolo Colon, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Bobby Abreu

Anibal Collective's trade block has been updated!
-
I saw someone from another Ottoneu league tweet about that. Not sure what the issue is.
-
I've just assumed my team will permanently stay in last
-
Anyone else notice the standings hasn't been updating in the last day or so?
-
I'll gladly take a bow as your (way early) HR leader. Didn't expect that.
-
And I DID confirm, it's totally all Curtis Granderson's fault for my team sucking, thus far.
-
One interesting observation is that there are only 2 teams that have scored more point via pitching than hitting: Yelich Bin Ein Marliner and Gin Andrus.
-
So I was doing some research, trying to figure out why my team is still so horrible, so I put together an "expanded standings" of sorts: http://goo.gl/5I9qx6

baseball press is helping. ottoneu told me khris davis was starting when he wasnt. I listened to baseball press and got a HR from Dickerson instead

Kris P Creamed's trade block has been updated!
-
After benching 2 starts and 80 points yesterday because I didn't know my pitchers were starting, I started using the Baseball Press lineups tool. Thanks!
-
Cosart: -41.93 points in 0.1 innings. Well, sure. He IS a Tom Emanski All-Star.
-
I'm pretty sure FanGraphs hired DShep after that Yu composite, he did another awesome one for RA Dickey http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/tracking-r-a-dickeys-knuckleball/ but then just, kinda, stopped.
-
Saw that last year. I don't know how anyone hits that guy.
-
Anibal Collective's trade block has been updated!
-
Um, yeah. Anyone else see this gif of Yu Darvish's movement? http://tinylink.net/0rg59
-
Yeah, that "my lineup" tool pretty much gives you all you need to know. And it just saved me having Shields on the bench, since Ottoneu doesn't mention that he's starting today. Missing a start against Houston is borderline tragedy.
-
And baseball press makes it really easy -- you can create an account and set up a "my lineup" page that will generate a list of just the players you want it to so you're not scanning through all of the days lineups as they're posted.
-
Agreed, but that baseball press tool is pretty damn cool. I know Nyjerz mentioned that last season, but I never got around to checking it out. Wish I had, I got screwed several times having the wrong player in.
-
Double post!
-
Yea, I forgot about the rainouts. Still sort of frustrating to have to check off-site to see who's starting / not starting

-
Yeah, it was definitely the rain-outs that messed things up. I use baseballpress.com to keep track of lineups because I've been burned by ottoneu too many times.
-
there were a few games postponed/cancelled yesterday (in NY and Philly) so that may have thrown it off.
-
Yeah, whichever service Fangraphs uses for its probable starters is just off. It was the same issue with The Game today.
-
Ottoneu hates Tillman. Told me he was starting today, nope.

Kris P Creamed's trade block has been updated!

Anibal Collective's trade block has been updated!

I think that was an Ottoneu error re: Tillman. It was showing Norris starting for Baltimore
