Is that a passive aggressive assertion that you're gonna kick my ass next year Moneyballs? Definitely true that I mortgaged the future, but hey I desperately needed that $300 haha

If anyone's curious, here's how teams are getting hit so far.
SoCal Sluggers 27
Dayton Grounders 26
Moneyballs 24
Big Papi memories 24
Water Champs 24
Georgia Gyroballers 24
Juan Pierre's Croissant Tienda 23
Dingoes 22
Thunder Road 21
Barnstormers 14
Milk Hotel Marauders 11
Pumpkin Escobar 10

Even though Dingoes kicked my ass last year, my team next year won't be competing with his 2018 team. I know he can't keep over $200 worth of players, so I don't feel the need to lock in on him in arbitration. Instead, I'm targeting the best value players regardless of the team's 2018 finish. If I don't, then teams with those value players will take their savings and add the $200 worth of players Dingoes had to give up.

This is fun lol. Hope no one is offended. All in good fun.

And yes I understand I have more cap space and whatever, but isn't the ottoneu system designed to bring the worst teams from the previous season back into a competitive range by penalizing the best teams more? Just my two cents, if you hate my argument I guess allocate more against me :)
-
Lol thank you Georgia for advocating on my behalf, I wasn't sure how to do so without sounding completely self serving. While I agree that everyone is entitled to their own arb strategy (including allocating towards prospects, regardless as to whether or not I would do the same), I find it pretty bizarre that I'm being hit harder in arbitration than dingoes, moneyballs, and Juan Pierre's, given that those three finished in the money and I finished in 9th. But again hey, do whatever you want.
-
I agree with the mindset that some teams have tougher decisions to be made than others & we're limited on funds. Kudos to those managers with that much depth. I also agree there are some head-scratchers thus far. In saying that, I'm new (so what do I know), and I'm of the belief that most people on this site know what they're doing. At the very least, I'd hope they're motivated by strong convictions they have on a player moving forward and it isn't the C word.
-
I'd attribute that to how each of those guys built their teams, and the max team allocation of $3. Sluggers has a few top guys at great prices, so Bauer's not getting crushed as much because T.Story is. Champs doesn't really have those types of guys, but instead has the top prospects in baseball. If I were to question anything, it would be guys who are getting bumped up who probably won't be kept at their prices (*cough*donaldson*cough).

Gyro -- I see what you're saying. It is a $7 bump for Bauer right now, but I understand the point you're making. The parameters of a $3 limit per team and a $25 total limit create an interesting set of choices. SoCal Sluggers (Bauer's team) has a pretty deep set of players to apply raises to. Good on him for putting together a solid core.
-
Nice article, Moneyballs. Thanks.
Milk Hotel-- I was just saying that a Cy-Young contender getting a $5 bump to $21 seems a steal compared to a guy with no MLB service time getting an $8 bump to $14. Certainly not an entirely objective process, but those two in particular stood out to me.

In my view, people have different strategies so I'm kinda willing to let whatever happens on arbitration happen. I'd prefer not to collaborate with other owners as to who should or should not get pinged with dollars though. I think Owners should be making choices by themselves
-
Personally, I think it's kosher to bring anything up. It's not a silent process, so I assume the creator intended there to be discussions before the deadline. If anybody's interested, there's a good article for arbitration advice on Fangraphs.

Georgia Gyroballers -- Questionable in which way?
I think commenting on adjustments is ok so long as it doesn't spiral out of control and become solely motivated by self interest of the author (example -- why is my player getting a big bump?). I've scrolled back through old message board posts, and it seems everything has been handled in a very civil manner so far in this league. I don't see why commentary on adjustments wouldn't also be civil.
-
Is it kosher to comment on the adjustments players are getting? For example, I think the adjustments for Bauer and Jimenez are... questionable.

cool yeah definitely seems like you did due diligence, don't think he's returning
-
I sent him a message, so he should have received an email unless he purposely unchecked "New Message in Inbox" for his profile. I'm not going to hunt him down. He was mostly absent last year, and expressed early on that he didn't plan on playing this year. Aside from making a couple trades, he didn't bid on any free-agents, and he never retracted his intention not play this year. He has until Nov 1 which, if needed, would allow time to get a new owner and have them participate in arbit
-
did you try emailing thunder?
-
Great outcome so far with most teams already allocated their arbitration budget! Final dollars will lock Nov 14. With two new owners, the only team I'm worried about is Thunder Road. He hasn't had any activity since Aug 22, and hasn't read any sent messages. I'm giving him until November 1 to respond back with his intentions for the year. If there's no response then I'll open the team for a replacement owner.

Water Champs's trade block has been updated!
-
Also welcome! It's a very active league. I'm sure both of you will be getting plenty of offers. Just to note, trade discussions can take place any time, but no trades can take place until arbitration is completed on November 14 (site wide rule).
-
Ohio Village Muffins's trade block has been updated!
-
Also new (obviously). Looks fun. Make me some offers.
-
Welcome to the league!
For everyone, today's the start of arbitration and you should have the "Arbitration" menu button available in the top left of the league page. You'll have $25 to allocate out to the other teams. You must allocate at least $1 to each team or else none of your allocations will count. Arbitration will go until November 14. Good luck all!

Ottoneutral Milk Hotel's trade block has been updated!
-
Hey all -- new to the league. Very excited for things to get moving with allocation starting tomorrow.
-
Congratulations, Dingoes. That placement in P/G and P/IP is excellent. I will *not* be returning to the league - Have at it with finding a replacement owner. Go Baseball!
-
I had another league where 2nd place overtook first on Bellinger’s homer today. Not a fun place to be a wallflower today
-
Not that it will matter much, but turns out games 163 will count for us. From Niv on the Community forums:
These games will affect season-long points and roto leagues, and will extend the deadline to start auctions and make waiver claims. They are regular-season games and will extend the Ottoneu Fantasy Baseball season.
-
Congrats to the winners, see ya next spring
-
Kudos to all...fun season, but especially the winners and most especially, Dingoes. Get your abacuses ready...arbitration starts in 2 weeks (I assume).

If I remember correctly, Thunder Road initially said they were done but then recanted and indicated a desire to play next season (if not then I feel really bad about that Soto for Ramirez trade)

pretty sure thunder road said they were done? probably not checking here anymore

If there's anybody NOT planning on returning then please let me know immediately. Either message board or PM. At the conclusion of the season I can make the team available to a new owner. As of now I'm planning on doing this for OTTONEUTRAL MILK HOTEL (who has had no activity in four months).

Just a quick poll: who all is planning on playing again next season? I’m in for the long run I think. Just wondering heading into the offseason
-
Between the end of the Major League Baseball regular season and the end of arbitration, players may be cut. Between the end of arbitration and the keeper deadline, players may be cut or traded. After the keeper deadline and before the auction draft, teams may not cut or trade any players.
There is no salary cap from the end of the MLB season until the keeper deadline.

Hi all, this is a reminder to all that the season ends Sunday, September 30. All auctions must be completed prior to midnight of the last day of games of the season. This means that all auctions must be started by midnight Eastern Time on Friday night.
The start of arbitration will most likely go from October 15 and end November 14. Trades will be allowed during the offseason from when arbitration voting is completed until the keeper deadline on January 31.

Last call out before deadline: shopping Altuve / Carrasco and pretty much every other player above $10, looking for cheap assets!
