Looks like the draft is still "in-progress" for some reason. Could be why we haven't been able to set lineups or start auctions yet.

Everyone don't forget the draft is Sunday at 7pm; I just now noticed it was this Sunday, so figured I'd give a heads up to all. Don't remember if Ottoneu sends out a reminder

Hi all, thanks for letting me join the league. This is my second year playing Ottoneu--I was in a startup league last year where half the owners lost interest midway through. I plan to be in it for the long haul, so I wanted to be sure I joined an established league this time around.

I thought the link below was an interesting read, as I think it applies to how teams should evaluate their trades in this league. Sometimes success can be realized in the short-term (next year), and rebuilding for prospects may actuallly be the bigger risk.

I will contact them on this matter...Ottoneu does allow leagues to manage their own specific trade rules, which were never stated at the outset of the season. This is my fault. I will work on a way to better resolve this issue going forward and clearly state trade parameters.

For this trade, because you both feel strongly about this, and as an act of good faith, just re-submit and I will not veto. Statistically, if trades of a certain degree of imbalance are made, the league could be fixed (and thus ruined). I of course don't want anyone to feel they are being overruled or taken advantage of. While there is no discussion of the matter, the reason that Ottoneu includes the 'veto' option in my LM dropdown menu is probably due to errors/abuses relating to trades.

Ryan, I understand your argument, I frankly just have a different valuation of these players and that's the whole point of trading imo. Second, LM veto & owner's veto is 2 separate systems when 1 should do. Third, this system only makes being 1st matter; there's no playoffs so that affects who I keep & how I structure my team. Last, I think with trades we're getting a little into "perfect is the enemy of good" with these expectations for exactness in talent/cost.

I assume you care for this league which is a good thing because feel like you that bad trades ruin leagues. I have two points to make. First is that in the rules listed it doesn't list that the Commissioner can veto trades. Niv needs to be contacted and have this included in the rules hard to play by rules if only the Commissioner knows them. Second I felt this was a fair trade because I see Kluber as a descending talent because of his age while the two I was trading are ascending talents.
-
I apologize if this feels strong. Again, I do not do any trades myself. I am doing this because I want the league to be competitive. There are a lot of potential trades that could happen, but would distort balance too far. Please just add one player and then this can be equal consideration. If a deal is not deemed to have adequate consideration, it will not be allowed. These leagues get ruined because people take advantage...this is what I am attempting to avoid.

I don't have a problem with the Commissioner having veto power, each trade should be reviewed independently by both the league participants and Commish, it reduces subjective interpretation of player valuation and collusion. I wouldn't want someone whose having a difficult season trading his best assets to help the other team win then dump those players before the draft. I think we should add a rule that if you trade, the players traded must remain on both teams the following yr including dl.
-
Both teams followed the rules of this site I have no problem with a trade being vetoed by my fellow owners but I do have a problem with the league comish vetoing like a dictator. I would like to see the complete wording giving this power.

the next 3 years may be expected to be similar to an average outfielder (who is worthy of starting in our shallow league).

additional consideration toward the side receiving Acuna and it will be approved. The expected performance of Acuna over the next 3 years or so is not enough by itself to justify the expected performance of a top 5-10 starter over the same period. Compared to the MLB and its 30 teams, prospect value is worth relatively less due to the shallower player pool of a 10 team league. In order for a player to have significant value in a 10-teamer, they must really stand out. Acuna's performance over

I apologize for the late veto...that can be done sooner in the future. I cannot find anything listed on the blogs...only in my commissioner tools section I have 'veto' as an option. I won't make any trades, so nobody has to worry about my influence as impartial. If we want the league to function OK we need our trades to be as fair as possible. If some teams make trades that are too uneven this will likely occur. In regards to this trade, re-submit the initial trade with

If you plan on influencing voters, I expect a nice compensation to vote your way. You know the "ol pay to play" or "you scratch my back, i scratch yours" philosophy that somehow doesn't seem like collusion.

1. I had no idea there was LM veto power, it doesn't mention that anywhere in the rules. I have no idea who was for it and who wasn't and that would help me in getting this trade done. Ryan if that's information you have and could share, that'd be great.
2. Is there a way we can do this going forward where we know sooner that you veto? It's only 2 days, but if it was always going to be vetoed, it'd be nice to know earlier.
Thanks

Not totally a dealbreaker but for that price itβd be nice to have more options such as including a playoff format

The price increase is not a deal breaker with me but I do think it will make adding new owners more difficult. Being a first time owner it would've made me think about going from a free league to paying 20 dollars. A person has to join to see how much better Ottoneu is than Yahoo this will prevent a lot of people from joining.

that can certainly be accomplished

thanks for the update albert. apparently Ottoneu is raising the price of annual league entry to $20. how does everyone feel about this? please let me know as I do have an opinion, but want to hear other people's ideas first. would the new price be an absolute 'non-renewal' for anyone?

and some good decisions you would be able to compete next year. Sale/Turner are likely to be worth more even next year individually than Tatis, when you are likely to be competitive again. As you play the league more, you will see how focusing on the very long-term is likely not the best strategy.

What is important to consider are the implications of this trade for the others teams. If I chose to sell all of my players and give my top players to another team, it would quickly create imbalances that may cause the league to be less competitive. When trades are assessed, the impact on competitive balance is the prime consideration. While you may be pleased with the return, the impact it has on other people has to be considered. In regards to your strategy, please note that with a little luck

As the person who is getting the prospects back, I think this trade fits into exactly what I want to do.
I have no need to keep Sale or Turner for the next few years, so my options are to trade them, cut them, or let them go in auction. I'm certainly not doing g the latter two.
I'm trying to build for 2-3 years from now.
-
This leaves you paying those 3 players, a min salary of $6 next year and considering useful MLBers commonly go for $1, it's not as good of a deal as you may think.
I would say that in this league, to give up Chris Sale alone, you will have to receive at least one elite major leaguer for the trade to go through.
In short, you may think you are getting a ton of surplus value from the MILBers, but that simply isn't the case and makes the trade unfair.
-
The two players given up are worth a ton of value (especially with Turner returning from injury this week) without getting much in return. The value of the minor leaguers in return is a lot more variable than you may think (look how Buxton, a former unanimous #1 prospect turned out).
This analysis also excludes the value of the $100 loan that was included and the fact that each minor leaguer salary will be increased by a minimum of $1 at year end ($2 if they make the majors).
