Anyway, I'm not the one who brought this up but i do sympathize. I don't want to make any extra work for anyone but there are a decent amount of Otto leagues that don't allow loans which i am NOT advocating for.

And it would be nice if we could some how enforce some cap in-season when it matters most.

I agree that it is good for rebuilding teams. So I don't really want to stop it all together. Just want a commitment from the guys involved.

Except there is usually 6-7 teams out of it and plenty of cuttable players out there so there isn't as much leverage as you suggest especially since they are cut players and come off the books of that team. Not too much harm done.

Used properly, the loan system is a boon to rebuilding teams.
-
You still need to have the assets to send out to receive a player on a loan. If one team is running away with the league, they shouldn't need to chase loan players anyways, but with two or more in a race it allows the team sending the loan to have leverage that allows them to demand more returned value.
-
Those number are a bit misleading cause guys stop setting their lineup at some point and if a guy makes a great trade and gains an extra 100 pts AR thats great. I just don't really see the point in a cap if teams can go over it by 35% or more. There is a certain dollar amount when a player becomes an automatic cut and it becomes a no brainer to trade the guy away because you're going to cut him anyway which is fine except when a guy gets like 5 of them and has a salary of 550. A bit unrealist

Tl;dr: agree with Law Dog

Loans are a feature, not a bug. And if we’re that worried about protecting owners from themselves then the onus is on all of us to teach the newbies and reinforce the need to hit game and IP limits. Half the league missed at least twenty games in OF last season - if you’re concerned about a trade giving a team 100 extra points above replacement, first you gotta get all your replacement level points.
-
I think voting off players and soft caps and all these things that require secondary enforcement are trying to protect against bad owners in a way that is creating more work for the commissioner and is unnecessarily convoluted. The most I would support is a salary cap minimum, and would not be on board with legislating trades as strictly as the below ideas.
-
I feel like I might have caused this debate. I'm doing to hide in the corner while you guys decide.
-
Loans are part of being an owner managing your own team IMO. I could be open to a veto system, like trades, but I think setting hard limits makes building a winning team harder. There are too many different strategies to building a team depending on current standings (example: if I am mid-pack halfway through season my team management looks way different that if I am in the top 3). We also have the option to just say no if we feel its an overask, even if we like the player/s or package.
-
I have a 2nd rule that might work. The cap needs to be a soft cap so I would suggest up to 425 or even 450 no problem. But over 450 then the other 11 teams get to vote 1 player in total off your team the following November. Over 500 vote off 2 players. So small loans are fine and big loans aren't impossible just discouraged. You don't lose the player outright he just goes back in the pool which in theory his price tag will go up so it is sort of like a fine. Maybe the team can protect 3-5.

It wouldn't be 2 years. If some gives/takes a loan in May then they pay for 2021 in May. Which is like 7-8 months in advance.

I mean at what point is the renew deadline? What logistical issues are there? and as well, how willing are people to pay 2 years in advance?

100%. This point has been breached before, if not here then in the other League the Commish is in. But are there not questions of enforcement?

There is 1 rule I think we should definitely adopt and that is if a team takes or gives a loan they should have to renew the league for the following season. In two different leagues that I'm in a top team traded away their young talent and had a cap of $500 something and then quit. One of the main points of a dynasty league is to live and die with your bold decisions.

Have to admit it's the main problem I have with the (otherwise excellent) system. Mama's suggestion is a step in the right direction. But I wouldn't mind a cap -- say $500? -- on the total salaries in season at any time

Ideally I was hoping Niv would create a system that for every 25$ over the cap at the end of the season that team gets get extra $1 of arbitration added by the commish. But I don't anticipate that happing any time soon.

Hey everyone, I’ve recently received some messages about the subject of loans in this league. I thought it’d be best to hear everyone’s opinion is on loans and if we believe the league should make any changes in regards to loans going forward. Please note that I'm not looking to make any changes unless we all can agree on what’s best for the league.
-
Hey everyone! I know I am late to answer a few trade offers - I am away with really limited wi-fi but will be back in action December 2. Just wanted to let everyone know at the same time - thought it might be easier!
-
Welcome MHartzell. Thanks for joining us.

In the league for twenty minutes and finally opening up for business - not exactly living up to his team's name!
Welcome to the league, MH. We'll be in touch shortly.
-
Hey everyone, happy to be a part of the league! I've updated my trade block, so let me know if you want to make any deals!

Welcome!

Also hopefully that's the last replacement owner that we need lol
-
Let's welcome MHartzell415 to the league, they're the new owner of Dipoto and Servezas!
-
Fair warning Goob is leaving the league, they're taking a break from Ottoneu, I'm going to keep them on as the owner of Dipoto and Servezas until we find a replacement owner. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining the league just let me know.

Scrolled back through the league message history (and our team's individual chat histories, apologies for the previous manager having such robotic responses) and seeing we've got managers what looks like everywhere. We're coming from a league that was a bunch of Europeans, though we're EST guys ourselves. Where's everyone hailing from these days? (and when is the best time to send offers and messages?)
-
haha oh no, nothing worse than lofty expectations... though we have a feeling you folks are going to put up a bit more of a fight. Really looking forward to the new challenge!
-
Psst... Jacob: Do you realize you just brought in the owner(s) who were the highest scorers in the entire freaking Otto-verse this past year? They're going to grind the rest of us into dust! What have you done?! :)

As the AL-minded co-manager of this team, I can confirm all media outlets reporting that we will be changing the team name, as neither a Sox fan (myself) nor a Mets fan (Kevin) will tolerate a team named after a Yankees infielder. We’re a pretty active pair of managers, so please consider the proverbial Peanuts sign flipped to “Open” for trade offers. Excited to compete against all of you this season!

Glad to be on board! We see a few trade offers/messages waiting - just give us a couple of days to get our feet under us and do some essential work like purging our team name of any Yankees references. Looking forward to 2020 already.

Hey everyone, I have gone ahead and removed Hassman as the owner of Won't You Be My Gleyber? because they didn't arbitrate and I wanted to find a replacement owner in the earlier part of the off-season than wait to see if Hassman was going to be active or not. Let's welcome kevinahof and thebostinian, they will be co-managing Won't You Be My Gleyber?.
-
Fair warning I added Curlin to Won't You Be My Gleyber so they can arb for that team. I know that Hassman is committed to being in the league but I wanted to make sure that team arbitrated before the deadline. I will just remove Curlin once they're finished.
-
We just have a few more days of arbitration, it looks like Dipoto and Servezas, Won't You Be My Gleyber?, and Pitches Be Crazy are the only teams left that need to arb

Just a heads up arbitration starts today and ends 11/14 at Midnight eastern time if you have any questions or issues just let me know. Also, just remember to arb at least a dollar to every team, use all of your arb dollars, and the max you can arb to another team is three dollars.
-
Hey everyone, I've gone ahead and added KLIPP to the league, they're in a 5x5 league with Law Dog. Welcome KLIPP!
-
Hey everyone, just a heads up The Dirty O will be leaving, he is trying to cut down on his Ottoneu teams. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining the league just let me know.

Thanks! I look forward to competing with you all again next year.

Congrats to the teams that placed and good season everyone! Also, if anyone is thinking about leaving the league, please let me know so I can try to find a replacement owner before arbitration.
