The auction draft date hasn’t been determined yet. The goal is to do a survey like we did last year to find a day that works for everyone; the ideal draft date would be in late March. I plan on creating and posting the survey in mid-February.

Current, final results in the vote on the trade waiting period: 10-0 in favor of shortening it. 83% voter turnout is pretty good! I'm going to fiddle with SurveyMonkey now. I will close the survey and try to send the results to Jacob so he can confirm that I haven't engaged in shenanigans.

On the question of changing the trade waiting period, eight votes have been cast so far and the tally is 8-0 in favor of switching to 24 hours. Hooray, consensus! We will make that change when it becomes available, just after the January 31 keeper deadline. Until then, it has to stay at 48 hours.
-
Over on Slack, I have posted a document that explains the policy Jacob and I have developed in response to the recent discussion here about in-season replacement of inactive owners and penalty-free cuts for new owners. If you aren't on Slack, or have problems accessing it, let me know and I will email you a copy.

This is my first time setting up a SurveyMonkey survey, and I'm limited to their free features, so maybe I'll find a better way to configure it in the future. Worst-case, I can post a screenshot on Slack. In this case, it's pretty easy... five votes have come in so far and all of them are "Yes, change it to 24 hours." If you want to tell me your IP address, I can confirm whether your vote is included among the five. ... or would that be overkill?
-
That survey software doesn't let you see the results.
-
That makes it feel so official. What else can we vote on?
-
Jacob and I are leaning towards changing the trade waiting period to 24 hours, but let's take a vote! Use this link to cast your votes: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K9S5SNS . Let us know if you have any questions.
-
Hope my thoughts didn't come across as curt. I was squeezing them in between work. I would vote in favor of the shorter options for pending trades/waiver claims. Consider this my vote if a vote is taken.
-
Fair and valid points. Once that won player becomes the 40th man on the roster rather than the 41st (using the 40 man as the base), you can whatever you would want. Hold him, cut him, trade him, etc because you made a roster spot for him rather than use an extra roster spot.
-
I don't want to get involved in policing people's rosters. Such a rule could also be skirted by cutting the 40th man. The 41st man then becomes the 40th and can be cut for the next 41st man. It would just create a slight time lag and keep that player off another team's roster.
-
I say leave it. Example, someone may bid $3 on a guy to make sure he doesn't go for less. If they win him for $1 or $2, they want to keep him. If he goes for $3, they don't want him and will cut. That player can then be claimed at $3 for 24 hours OR be reauctioned with a base price of $2 and the person who cut can't bid.
-
Since I think the length of the trade and waiver wire are league option settings, those will each probably need a vote.
-
The issue isn't throwing players back because that is fine if you were a man short on the roster. The issue is the extra roster spot it affords. I think there may be an option to move the waivers and trades from 48 to 24 hours coming to Ottoneu that would be a help in this regard. Open to opinions, but a vote would be a good way to make it a policy with a league or voted down. Since auction data is public to the league, it would be easy to monitor.
-
I’d love to hear other owners’ opinions on the subject, but I honestly don’t see a way to prevent this from happening in the future.
-
I understand the frustration with an owner who adds a player and immediately drops them, but truthfully there’s no benefit to do that besides delaying that player from being rostered for a few days. In addition, that owner would incur a cap penalty for cutting that player so it’s not the most effective strategy. I’d assume it’s just an owner who price enforcing instead of purposely delaying players from being rostered.
-
That might be an issue that you will need to discuss on the Ottoneu Community page or with Niv (the creator of Ottoneu) because I’m not aware of a way to prevent or stop a team from starting an auction for a player or adding a player and cutting them immediately.
-
Despite the lack of baseball activity this offseason, the activity has been good in the league. Good job everyone!
-
This group has been very active and it is good for the league. Specific guidelines for handling MIA owners is a good policy and it would be to check with other leagues on policies that they have in that regard. The only other rule I would like to propose for vote is that if you win a player that you didn't start the auction that you need to create a roster space for him on the 40 man roster rather than throw him back and having a virtual 41 man roster instead of a 40 man roster.
-
The commishes want to resolve all potential rules changes for 2018 before owners start paying for their renewals. We are currently putting the finishing touches on a document that outlines the policy we have developed in response to the excellent comments here about in-season ownership changes and penalty-free cuts. We will post that soon, and we think that's the only open issue. If you have other ideas, requests or concerns, please let us know ASAP.

Furthermore, please keep in mind about your renewal date. If a team fails to renew by their renewal date their team will be expired, meaning their team will be made available to everyone on the available teams’ page. It looks like the renewal dates are around 01/22 to 02/01. If you have any questions just let me know.
-
Just a friendly reminder that the keeper deadline is approaching (01/31). Please make sure to make your cuts before then because after the deadline you won’t be able to make any cuts until we completed the auction.
