My impression was that wording applied to the initial auction draft only (i'm completing one in another league and trades are locked in Ottoneu whereas they aren't here). No stress, happy to follow the rules but was just surprised we couldn't.
-
The rules allow trade discussion during the auction:
"You may not make any trades during the draft.Β Trade discussion is acceptable, however no trades can be processed or acted upon from the time the first player goes on auction until teams involved in the trade both have full rosters as defined above"
But given the the length of our auction, trade talk might distort our behavior more than during a traditional auction. I can understand having a lid on trade ta

Any reason why?

Please no trading until after the draft, thanks!

Hi all, I have a surplus of 3B. Josh Donaldson, Justin Turner and Kebryan Hayes. If you need a 3B and don't make it out of the auction with one let me know. I'm willing to part with them in that order. Keen on almost any other position.

Great. Thank you. I prefer not to be up all night. π

There is a text box on the right-hand side of the draft room that explains the Max Bid process. Basically, you make certain that the "make max bid your real bid" box is unchecked, then enter your bid in the black text box for where you would normally enter a bid. I tried it already, works great. My bid went one dollar higher than the current high bid, and my "max bid" was hidden from the draft room (it will display for you, in the block "bid" box".

Ok. So how do I set a max bid and what does it mean to make your max bid your real bid?

you can set a max bid, and you'll only pay for $1+ the next highest bid, you won't be on the hook for your whole max bid unless someone else bids you up to that point.. thanks
-
Many of these auctions end when I'm sleeping. Can I set a maximum bid on a player and if I do am I on the hook for that whole bid even if the next closest bid is $10 less?

Good morning! I have now started the slow draft, you may begin nominating players for auction. please let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!! (note: i validated salaries on all teams so it should be accurate, even lux)
-
Gβday folks, just a heads up I wonβt make my moms for a few hours after the auction opens as itβll be 3am my time when it starts. Also please donβt outbid me on my guys, that would be great, thanks

We are doing 24 auctions at once in another league I'm in. It's working great and there's enough pace. We just ping people on Discord when their nomination turn comes up, as there's no notification from Couch Managers as push notifications weren't invented when the website was designed in late 1996.
-
@Tonic I plan to keep a close eye on pace and can adjust timers / # of concurrent auctions if we need to speed up, but hope not to. I've been reading up in the forums and people recommended starting with two nom's per team instead of one, so I'm going to do that (so we'll have 24 auctions going at once) which will hopefully keep things quick. @Fairhaen, yeah I think we stick w/ slow draft this year, love live drafts but we have teams all over the world here.. will revisit for 2023. thanks
-
Sorry to be clear my question was around timing of the draft starting - not suggesting we abandon it. It doesn't really matter when you start a slow draft, that's the beauty of the system, which is why i'm wondering why we are artificially delaying the start given we're all ready to go. Starting it so late on the 21st doesn't give a lot of time to get through the 180ish players to draft with time left over to do trading etc before opening day.
-
Gents, we did a poll and most wanted to try the slow draft. Seeing as how Rocky was nice enough to take the time to set it all up and we're ready to go, can we all please try it out this year? We certainly want everyone to enjoy the league and don't want anyone to go, but the work is done at this point. Really appreciate if everyone can go with it as we have been working on details for weeks now.
-
Iβm in a slow draft in another league. Not a fan. Iβd rather get it done in a 3 hour session than be tied to a slow draft for a week or more
-
Question: are we even going to have time to finish the auction before opening day if we are starting it so late?

We have 7 responses and 6 are for 3/21, so Iβve seen enough! Draft will begin 3/21!!
-
Sent an e-mail for a final round of voting. Poll link is also here: https://forms.gle/XHLXVcHGvFSHqRTY9

I think 3/14 might be a little soon, and I agree with Duck Sauce that 3/21 would be better for me. However, I am one of the new teams, so I will go with whatever the league decides.
-
I'm gonna say 3/14, should give me enough time to set everything up. is that soon enough for you guys?? lol.. I'll send a league-wide e-mail tomorrow saying we begin on 3/14 unless there's any opposition in here
-
Not at all a bad idea.

Why not start now? No need to wait.

I prefer Monday bc that's the only weekend I'm kinda busy till Opening Day. But I can check in here and there, so should be ok either way. Are we doing 24-hr clocks?

I say we begin earlier rather than later. To be honest, I am still uncomfortable with the slow draft, I kind of just want to get it over with and move on to trades...I anticipate being terrible at this draft format.

28 days until opening day people!!! let's roll! Thinking some time between 3/18 - 3/21 to begin our slow draft.. will give ample time for MLB free agent transactions and trading, and we should finish in time. Any preference on friday vs. monday? I'll send out an e-mail once we decide, I lean 3/18 but can be convinced otherwise :)
-
We're gonna hold off til some clarity on opening day :(

Can I negotiate a March 7 start? Lol

Haha yeah i'm excited to start it too, but admittedly have a little prep left to do, so i think we'll shoot for around 3/9 unless opening day is delayed (or we decide to draft then anyways, i'm open to it).. cautiously optimistic with the players submitting a full offer today, maybe things start to accelerate!
-
Thank you. That sounds fun. I look forward to it. Let's start it asap. Get our baseball fix in.

(2/2) in my experience main differences are you have all day to decide if you want to bid on a player vs. 30 seconds (can be good and bad), dynamic changes a bit because 12 auctions going at once (ex. you want to bid on a 2B but are already highest bidder on another 2B), that's about it though, it'll be much easier on our schedules, and at the end of the day the highest bid wins just like a live draft. everyone already rostered will be pre-loaded to the site so that will be normal as well
-
I did a full ottoneu start-up mock auction using couchmanagers so it works as well as you can hope. cliff notes: basically there will be 12 players going at once (1 active nomination per team, can change to 2 per team if need to speed up). on 12 hour clocks. kinda works like ebay where you can put a max bid on a player and you remain highest bidder unless someone tops you. if < 6 hours left on a player and there's a new highest bidder, their clock resets to 12hr. (1/2)
-
I am good with a slow draft but I have to ask.....How does a slow draft work in auction style?

Hi all, mmaude here with an update - survey results are pretty clear to me. We have managers on both US coasts, South America, and Australia (which is amazing, by the way), a strong lean towards slow draft (half the league strong preference for it, only one team strongly preferring live draft), and a slight preference to see what happens with opening day / lockout. While i love live drafts, and the dynamic of a live auction, I think it makes sense for us to do a slow auction draft. (1/2)
-
(2/2) I think we'd be able to complete the slow draft in 2 weeks, which would be far less time than MLB needs to ramp up 'spring training' ahead of the season. With that.. Let's plan for a slow draft beginning Mid-March if Opening Day is not rescheduled, and to delay that in accordance with any Opening Day rescheduling.. would want the slow draft completed at least a week before opening day, so will try to stick for that. We'll see what happens though! Please share thoughts on this idea. Thanks!
-
Friendly reminder to complete the draft preference survey this weekend if possible. Gonna start taking a look at the responses early next week

Today is cut deadline day! All cuts must be made by 11:59 ET. Anyone traded today must be kept due to the 24 hour review period. Also - we'll work on getting a draft poll out later this week. Thanks

FYI, it came to my attention that Wubox Nation is an Ottoneu user handle (probably the former owner?), so the team has been renamed Duck Sauce.
