I won't get involved re sectarian futbol wars. I will say that the term 'there's no protective gear and you can't pass forward' is quite a caveat. Also I believe the clock doesn't stop in Rugby? Essentially there is nothing about it that's similar to the NFL, and I mean that as a complement.

For whatever reason I find cricket incomprehensible. I never get what's going on or why the score seems to be 105 to 6. Rugby makes a bit more sense. Speckys sound like fun, never heard of that before. I heard a story that when some of the football players in my home town (where our high school team, The Boxers, have always been very strong) attempted to play a game of Rugby, 3 of them broke their collar bones. The tackling is just so different and they couldn't handle it or the lack of pads.

I think jarrods arguement is invalid, as he says it's a much more skilful game, but in essence all you do in afl is kick it as far as you can and hope some on catches it. Similarly, in rugby all you do is run the ball straight and as hard as you can, which can result in some big tackles. So if you like nice catches watch afl, if you like big hits, watch rugby league. In all honesty I'd rather watch baseball
-
I think what my challenged friend is trying to say is that AFL is a much harder, skillful and strategic game than rugby league, where players literally just run the ball upfield with the occasional pass. If you want to see some skill watch some afl speckys or mark of the year contests, they are equivalent to amazing home run robbing plays ala mike trout.

Rugby league is similar to NFL except there's no protective gear and you can't pass forward. Afl is more of a kicking game and to score points you aim for goals rather than trying to reach an end zone per say

Thanks for playing along with intros. I was introduced to rugby by a young player and I find it to be quite interesting. I even went to a couple local matches, it seems to be a burgeoning sport here in the US. What are the important differences between rugby and afl?

Sorry for the delay in introductions. I was out of town for Easter and just now catching up. I'm Trevor. I was born in Texas, raised in Indiana. I attended and now am employed by Baylor University in lovely Waco, TX. I work in disability services. I've been playing fantasy baseball in one form or another for around 14 years, even though I'm 26. This is my first Ottoneu league. The Rangers are my team when it comes to baseball. I love straight steals of home, though they're always a bad idea.

Matt Harvey w blood clots in the bladder-- why couldn't they just tell us that yesterday? What's the big deal anyway it's just some bladder blood clots. Thanks for yr patience with rookie Ottoneu Commish. Yesterday a long day as I operated on no sleep, as I was up all hours finalizing a big proposal. I do have my issues with Ottoneu and how it works but shenanigans should be over. You're only bidding against the other 10 players in these auctions, any rogue owner bids are of course invalid.

Ha ha, well, the legend of his malady certainly lingered too long, didn't it. I think we've finally managed to put it to rest. The team is now renamed "The Empty Team", owned by my wife who will never touch it, and it will sink to the bottom of the standings on Day 1. If it should turn out that we have too much talent left on the wire, then we can add a team after this year. I believe all the guys you see on the wire right now are legit auctions.
-
While he may be gone, the legend of Steve Sax lives on
-
Again, guys, really sorry. This league is not supposed to be listed and it's supposed to have a password. It actually shows me as the owner of that team "Scraping the Bottom" but the system doesn't really let me do anything with it and somehow others are still able to claim it. Really weird because when I go in with another identity I don't see the team at all. I have been emailing with Niv about this -- obviously all I want to do is make the team go away. Hopefully fixed foreve
-
Yes, I'm sorry, but the team is not available, and this league is not open. The league is supposed to have a password. The team was inadvertently abandoned. We are trying to get it fixed.
-
WTH, I took over a team listed as available and appears its already owned with a co-owner. and the dude completely missed the draft? Help? whats going on in here?
-
Hi Everyone. Jeepers, sorry for that. I was just trying to make Steve Sax disappear. I think it's fixed. All those auctions will be stopped. Yes, I am wearing scrambled eggs on my face.
-
This league is NOT open. there has been an error. please stop putting players up for auction.

Also, should add, not quite as old as Dave, but old. And trying to put off real life by playing some fantasy baseball is not only a young man's game.

My name is Brendan, I'm a 22 year old college student trying to put off real life by playing some fantasy baseball. Played baseball all through high school but hurt my shoulder towards the end. Second time in an ottoneu league but the first one lost the interest of the rest of the league pretty quick so looking forward to this one and hoping it gets competitive

Yep, much long toss with Reg back in college days, also poetry and Sox talk, etc. Now: Brooklyn, St. Francis College English department, two teen boys (both musicians, one a ballplayer), a dog, two cats, a wife, first time in auction league. Name: Jason

My name is Nathan, I live in Sydney, Australia. I am a uni student and currently 19, but in Australia we are regarded as adults so no need to go easy on the young kids. Also interested in cricket and rugby league, which happens to be much better than afl, although Jarrod says otherwise.

Hi, my name is Josh. I am part of the group of friends from the town Amherst, MA (USA). This is my 13th year playing fantasy baseball with a few of the guys here, including the commissioner David. David and I had a long standing battle, where things like jerk, butt head and nincompoop were thrown around. Thankfully those days are gone and what is left is a lovely bitter friendship. Looking forward to playing this year under the new format (first auction as well) and beating Dave...
-
My name is Brian. I married into the group of friends that I know in this league. I have a doctorate in arm waving, and live in a pretty constant state of stress and anxiety. I teach high school music, conduct a professional ensemble, have a wife, son, and a dog, and I drink a lot. I am currently failing at my most recent attempt to "get back into shape." I probably don't have time to be in this league, but I'm doing it anyway.
-
My name is Jarrod. I am a uni student, although if you knew me it would seem as though I don't do anything, besides watching sports, mostly afl, cricket and baseball, y'all should watch some afl. I think this will be my 5th year of fantasy baseball, first auction style though.

Can we do a quick round of introductions. My name is Ben. I live in CA. I am a dirt farmer (no really, I grow soil). My wife is incredibly hot, there is no reasonable explanation for that. I have been playing fantasy baseball for 10 years, mostly with several goombahs in this league.

Lamentations for Will Smith. De-shoeing is dangerous. As dangerous as carving deer meat or jumping for joy inside the dugout after your teammate hits a walk-off. Just don't do stuff and everyone will be all right.
-
ok so somebody on Slack said "There is no pitcher eligibility, so you can slot him in at starting pitcher." and i see that Yaz has Wainwright in the SP slot - - so that concludes that issue, apparently. something seems odd there, but hey.
-
My best reliever Will Smith tore his LCL trying to take his shoe off...honestly
-
Is it just me or why is Maeda listed as UTIL when he's a pitcher? And does that bring the same issue as Waino? IRC from last year these bugs were sorted out before opening day.

Right-- only 162 catcher starts. The rule is there to help. Catchers score poop anyway for the most part, and your main guy might start, what, 120 games. So they are trying to help you. Note> you will come to understand these things by about April 4th, I think.

Again, I think this is the stupidest rule. You should write to Niv about Waino. (Click on "Contact us" tab at top of any league page.)
