I am 100% in favor of courtesy and communication. That is expected since i know we have good managers, however sometimes, i am too busy to make a counter, but usually respond to offers of interest in some way. If you want an answer written, try writing in a question on the offer, that way the other team has a dialogue that you started and its not on them.

Lest I beat this dead horse any further, just a few observations: (1) This is a good league and the discussion shows that everyone is into it (it's December after all and we're having an impassioned discussion about trade communication etiquette!); (2) Communication during trade offers is generally a good and appreciated thing; (3) Not everyone is as chatty about this stuff and that's okay, too. (4) Let's move forward knowing there's mutual respect even if communication styles are different.
-
Granted, if someone offers you someone like Trey Mancini for someone like Jose Abreu that it is totally reasonable to not open a discussion there. I do think Ottoneu is different than other fantasy games though due to the hard cap. If you have someone that you are definitely going to cut before the draft, it does behoove you to listen to any offer on that guy if it gives you someone that you will keep. Some trades may not look fair in a vacuum, but could be good in this structure.

You do make a good point about sending a message with a trade offer to start a dialogue. It is something that I will do more often going forward. I usually do, but not 100% on that. I do think trade offers are sent to start a dialogue though. If I send a reasonable offer for someone like Jose Abreu on your team, you may not like it but you may willing to trade Abreu for someone you really like on my team, which starts the discussion.

I think if someone is willing to submit a trade offer they should open discussion by sending a message. A trade offer alone is not much communication. I have received several trade offers with little communication for players I have not put on the block. I think it's rude to just assume that I'm going to trade just because you want my player. Trades are suppose to fill the needs for both teams. Frankly, in my time with Ottoneu, I have mostly seen people trying to trade rape others.
-
I agree with what The Second Order is saying about the trade block. I highly doubt that the White Sox, when they had Sale on the block, that they were just hanging up on teams with no discussion when a team made a legitimate offer. I think we could do something similar even if it is just "Hey, not interested in Player X" or "Not interested in dealing Player Y." It's not that hard really. Cooperation makes the world a better place after all...

I don't think I was asking for an unilateral ruling on what I was saying, Craig, since I am a co-commissioner here as well. I was trying to foster a discussion between us to make trading between all of us simpler and more cooperative. I know I am not alone on this, but part of the fun of fantasy baseball is the negotiations that you have with someone. I have had fun discussing offers with various members of this league.

Policy may have been a little strong, but it should be a common courtesy to give someone a reason or say they will counter. Especially if you are using the trade block to offer up a deal. It just wastes everyone's time if you have something on your trade block and then just reject a trade with no explanation or counter.

I agree it shouldn't be policy but responding in some way is the right thing to do.

No extra policy will be added, there is no requirement for a counter offer or even an explanation, a turned down deal means the other guy doesn't like it.
-
seems like if you are receiving an offer to either a want or need on your trade block, then a counter or at least a reason would be fair so as not to waste time....if you are getting a blind offer on someone you have never shown an interest in trading, i think whether you give a reason or not is sorta up to you...since it was blind to begin with.
-
Fair point on sending a reason with the offer. I am not sure about others, but I don't take the rejection personally. However, it's nice to know if there is no interest in the person that you are sending or if the person you are asking for is off limits. I was told by someone here today that one of their players is not moving, so that is very helpful and saves time to see if there is still common ground. Especially in a situation where the offer involves multiple players on both sides.

I think if people are going to send trade offers then maybe they should send a message as to why they are looking to trade. Don't take a trade rejection as personal.
-
There may be an exception here or there in my other leagues, but almost everyone does it there and it makes deals happen more. But, more importantly, it helps you from wasting your time.

Can we please institute a policy in this league where if you are going to reject a trade that you can put a reason why? If the message is even "I'll counter" or "I'll send a message", that's fine. If a team puts some effort to send you an offer that they think is fair, I think this is the least you can do. I can understand if it is a ridiculous deal like Yunel Escobar for Mookie Betts, for example. I would assume trade offers like that don't happen that often.

I am willing to listen on only one of Cruz or Blackmon or maybe Betts. Would be looking for some package of SP's and RP's or maybe 1B (but not a requirement). It would be more of a good trade for both of us and not a salary dump trade as I am not looking to dump salary.

I am really good with any day for a draft as long as it is after 8 or 9 pm ET due to work. I would vote more towards the middle of Spring Training or a little after that because of the format and the penalty associated with cuts. While I figure all rosters will be at least half full, I don't think anyone wants to take a loss on a player because he got hurt or lost his job if we drafted in February, for example.

cool, no rush on needing a decision now, i know its easy to want to set rosters early but i have a great habit of always picking a guy a day before his TJ diagnosis in spring training.
-
sounds good to me..im very flexible..but i am planning on going to pheonix for spring trainging around the 9th- 14th of march
-
There's no real policy on when the auction will be this year. I think it was mid March last year if memory serves, but I'm guessing GM's will want to do it a bit earlier this year, but perhaps not. The trick, like last year, will be finding a time that works for the lot of us, and that will likely dictate when it is more than anything. I'd be happy to take the lead on organizing a scheduling poll again, likely sent out after the first of the year and once everyone is past the holidays.
-
thinking ahead here...are we planning an earlier or later auction in relation to spring training?

For everyone, if you want to check in occasionally, you can set your profile to email you if you get a trade offer. that way you don't leave anything out there unanswered.
-
Big Ben you can take off a month or so, as long as you come back and try to defend that title. I wasn't worried that you hadn't been in lately, i just figured you were still celebrating the title.
-
haha I hope that will continue to be the case!

Hello all. I am actively looking to move Todd Frazier, Jacob deGrom, and Mike Napoli. Please message me or send over a trade offer if interested. All offers will be considered, but please don't waste our time and offer up trash that no one would consider keeping (example: Nick Hundley). Thanks.

Hey Warning Track Power - you calling out the CHAMPS?!! Seriously? You can't do that! In all seriousness November is the busiest time of the year for me with work and other priorities - is it ok with everyone if I take ONE month off from baseball?!
