Haven't seen the BP top 100, but man, I always forget how defense-heavy the BA lists always are. They're really misleading if you're looking at them for fantasy purposes. Blake Swihart? Austin Hedges? Really?

Yes, he's hitting .215 in his first 10-12 games after the biggest difficulty jump (to AA) in the minor leagues. Jeez, tough crowd around here.

A. Mondesi has a 56 RC+ in 60 games and is ranked ahead in both lists. Stats, lists, and scouting reports all matter, as does the scoring format of this fantasy league.

So now stats matter and not the list or scouting reports? Yes, in 17 games, as a 20 y/o, Winker is struggling

Joey Gallo up to #4 overall.

one spot behind David Dahl in BA

Is that the same Jesse Winker that's hitting .215 in AA?

That stat makes me question def WAR. And that link makes me even more excited for MLBAM to make public the defensive metrics they're recording.
-
Stat of the day: J. Peralta's 12.8 def WAR > A. Simmons 10.5 def WAR

One of the coolest takeaways for me: "MLBAM partnered Experience, the fan experience mobile technology company, to allow fans to upgrade their seats after they?re inside attending a game" Such a great idea!!

Yankees best pitching prospect may be Ian clarkin who is mad far away. Pineda is a klown but could resurge in NL.

Castro for Pineda?

Jeff Pasan reported Beane engaged TB about Price in a deal that included Russell, but TB backed out.

The Yankees system is bare, but completely agree he would leap to move Castro for pitching nowhere near the Giolito/Bundy stratosphere
-
The problem for Cubs isn't plethora of hitters... It's the fact that the best pitchers in their entire org are Jake Arrieta and CJ Edwards.

Defensive chops aside, Baez is likely to get too bulky for shortstop. It's not a great long term fit for him. Anyway, depth is a nice problem to have. But I bet Theo would cash Castro in for pitching in a heartbeat. Mets or Yankees...?

I loved the trade from both sides; makes perfect sense for the A's, and I don't think having too many high ceiling MI bats in the system for CHI is a problem at al. It will work itself out.

Baez is probably third on the defensive depth chart to play SS behind Castro and Russell both long term and short, and I've recently read a few places where scouts think Alcantara is a better defender at SS if given the chance

Ironically, I think Soriano is a very good comp for Baez's floor as well...circa 2011-2013. Still lots of bombs, but probably a disappointment considering the hype, especially in Chicago

I read every scouting report I could find last year, including a ton on Baez. The one that sticks out is the scout that said Sheffield wasn't the right comp - it was A. Soriano, circa 2002 - for Baez's ceiling. That's a hell of a player.
TTBNL on

And re Cubs, I don't know where they will all wind up, but there are tons of questions about Baez at SS (and he's still striking out 33% of the time) and whether Bryant ends up in RF
-
But unless you believe for some reason that HR rate doubling is real my suspicion is that they'd love to find a taker for the $50 million he's still owed. No real improvements at the plate to speak of
-
The only thing different about Castro thinks year is that his HR rate has doubled while he makes less contact. He's still young
-
I can't think of a single pitching prospect (non-MLB service time) I'd move Starlin Castro (.351 wOBA) for right now, or Russell. I'll take the young guy succeeding at the MLB level 10 out of 10 times. Would take Giolito+, Thor+, Bundy+ for me

Actually you know who may be a good Russell comp is Barry Larkin. At least based on what I've read.

Russell will probably be a better baseball player with higher career WAR than Baez. But Baez has 40-HR potential that Russell lacks. Baez = Sheffield, Russel = Jeter.

So now you basically have Castro, Baez, Russell, Bryant, Alcantara competing for three IF spots next year. Do they plug two of them into the OF? I don't get it.

I disagree about stockpiling talent regardless of eligibility. Their system is pitching-poor, and they just traded two very good pitchers without getting pitching help back (Straily is terrible).

I will bet $$$ Beane flips Shark before he hits his arb next season. Moving Russell for those guys would surprise me unless he had plans to cash him in before Arb3
-
agree....I really think Castro is playing well and is past some developmental issues that the others still have to possibly deal with...pitching is a major need though
-
Agreed. Stockpile as much talent and worry about where they'll play later. Plus, if you're gonna have three top prospects at one position, having three top SS doesn't suck. If you can play SS, you can play anywhere.
-
One thing is for sure: Russell is playing SS, not Baez. I think Russell will turn out the best of that whole bunch. Great pickup for Cubs. They can buy pitching later (Lester?)

Everyone saying Castro or Baez or Alcantara, etc needs to be moved, but I think it's premature to think all those guys work out. The Royals were loaded a few years ago and it hasn't gotten them very far.
