I traded Kluber straight-up for Torii Hunter in August 2013 in one of several "win now" trades that I probably didn't need to make. Hindsight is 20/20.

Kluber is averaging a Kershaw-like 6.75 P/IP over his last 10 starts. If Felix weren't other-wordly CLE might have a Cy Young winner this season...

Love the beer options at GABP. But Two-Hearted is the most overrated beer in the world and it isn't particularly close.

True but it's still the best predictor of the future... It doesn't help you on there past, of course

xFIP is largely meaningless in this format, as I learned the hard way with Marco Estrada. Whether it's above the mean or not, HRA still result in massive point loss in this league.

Lol 3rd in the league in xfiP but I know what you mean when I watched him I was perpetually annoyed or disappointed

Strasburg is such a jackhole. How does someone with that level of stuff fail to string together consecutive strong starts, like, ever?

Looking through old auctions is pretty eye-opening. Some amazing talent has been picked up for dirt cheap throughout the last few years. I didn't check them all, but only see one other player that received a bid from 9 teams...anyone want to guess?

sorry...that should have said "should" have been a keeper
-
He wasn't a steal, but to completely discount him as worthless is missing the point....3B isn't exactly a deep position
-
I'll admit that now Zimmerman isn't a keeper with his injuries, but a $29 3B who has played at least 90% of his games 4 out of the last 5 seasons prior to this one and averaging a minimum of 5.6 points wouldn't have been a keeper
-
Yep. 55 slightly above average, or roughly .280 BA (https://db.tt/eChzL63e)
TTBNL on

55 is league average to barely above league average (MLB league, not Ottoneu league). We all agree on that right?
-
In other words, a 55 hit tool and 60 power tool roughly equate to a .280/.360/.460 MLB player (according to scouts). Put that in the OF (and at < $5), and you have one of the more valuable contracts in the league. Pulled that straight from the article.

What facts? I simply commented on facts stated in an article. I even posted the article. You started the discussion by insinuating that a 55 hit tool wasn't worth much. I countered by saying a 55/60 player is a borderline All-Star.

The McCutchen/C. Martinez for R. Zimmerman, Keuchel, Heany trade is still the most controversial to me (no chance Zimmerman is a keeper), which is why WGW is probably thrilled to have 'Cutch back in the fold...

I love how no matter what is said, when facts are pointed out to refute it, the auto response is "all prospects are risk, but elite hitters are valuable". Um, ok, awesome
-
Even with the injury I don't think 2015 ETA is out of the question for Winker. Pretty clear path to playing time in LF.

Winker may never make it out of AA, who knows. There's a ton of risk with every prospect. But I'd argue a $1 lottery ticket to a #2 playable OF in Ottoneu is extremely valuable. I'm sure Jed isn't missing what he gave up, either...

I'm not sure how you can use the same article to contradict the same article. Bottom line is that he is projected for a 55 hit tool. Not elite, but very good. With 60 power, that's a borderline All-Star. For $1, how is that not a very valuable risk?
TTBNL on
August 7, 2014 7:47 PM
-
Unless I'm wrong, EP, you don't have a single OF on your team with an OPS equal to .820. That would make Winker's projection very relevant, wouldn't it?
TTBNL on
August 7, 2014 7:45 PM

"Average MLB hitter is not relevant in Ottoneu if he plays OF". Really? It's his above average hit tool, combined with his plus power, that projects him to possibley hit .280/.360/.460.
TTBNL on
August 7, 2014 7:45 PM

He probably should be expected to hit at least .370 and be the best value in ottoneu history. Like Brad Miller.

A conservative MLB projection for Winker is .320/.440/.690.

50 is average major league hitter. Average Major league hitter is not relevant in Ottoneu if he plays OF
