The bidding works as a player gets nominated then we have 48 hours to post a secret bid for what we want to pay. No hassle with people being available to draft at the same time. But not nearly as fun
-
Even if it only takes one minute for each player, that's gonna be 8 hours hahaha. My oh we Ottoneu league went 3 hours first day, 2 hours the next, and finished out with bidding
-
I assume it will take a while. Don't know how much time everyone is planning to put in from the start but it will take a bit of time
-
Or will we complete it all on that night?

So is the draft so far in advance of the season just because it'll take a while to complete?

I would say that's pretty accurate. Don't think we get many 4-5 minute players but that's a pretty accurate timeframe

Starting at 5 ET on a Friday night, eh? How fast do the auctions run? Min 90 seconds a player, max... maybe four or five minutes per?

True, this isn't like espn. If you miss you are SOL
-
Be warned, though, I don't think there is a auto-draft so if you aren't here, you get to draft the scraps.

Yup, we will start with the "usual" draft window and Team 1 puts someone on the block and the bidding begins. It ends a set amount of time after the last bid (I think 90 seconds or so).

Yeah, all Ottoneu leagues are auction

And when you say draft, you mean auction draft, right? Just checking.

Yup - 5 Eastern.

starts Feb 21 or so. It should be in the rules.

So what is the leagues draft date/time?

It's something we could certainly try/look into

It allows freedom as far as not needing everyone available at the same time. But heavily reduces chances someone gets a bargain on a player.

Not outside of Ottoneu, but it's handled through here the same way free agent bidding happens. Someone nominates a player and we have a set time limit to place our bids

Silent auction handled by the commish outside of Ottoneu? I think it could be VERY interesting, but I just don't have the time for it.

Lastly, what we did in the beginning season of the other league is began the draft with a live auction and then proceeded to the silent auction style after the first day
-
I think you'll enjoy the arbitration allocations and typically in the other league about 60-70% of players are kept.
-
Hey guys, new owner here. I've done another ottoneu league(similar settings) for the past three years. Very much looking forward to this league!
-
yep if people are serious let them fill the last 3 spots

Odds are, they won't last into next year and we can boot them if needed.

At this point, yeah, fill with whomever.

Ok, we need to get these last 3 spots filled. At this point it is first come first serve. What do you all think about filling the league with some random folks? I get an email every day or so from someone looking for a league.

I'm glad to see the game type updated to "FanGraphs Points." I hope it stays that way. I'd be displeased if we did something more primitive like Old School or even ottoneu Classic in a fantasy league hosted by FanGraphs. Good stuff!
-
Ok, it sounds like we have one more and possibly 2. Please, before you invite anyone else, let me know.

Of the folks not in the league, it's just Goat, Cubbie Blues (Tim) and Luke. Tim is out for sure. I doubt Luke joins and I have no clue about Goat.

Who have you invited already so we don't go recruiting the same people?

Also, I am tapped out on peeps to invite to the league. If you have someone let me know. I'd prefer to keep this to as many Cubs/BN folks as possible.

Basically you keep who you can afford. At the end of the year everyone gets a raise and we all get to allocate money around to boost salaries. I have never seen that in play, but I would imagine it is a lot easier to go worst to first or first to worst

I'm in the same boat as you not having played this style. But my impression is that an average team keeps roughly 75%. Though on the main page I see Baez going for $3. I'm guessing he gets a bit more expensive in this league.
-
How do keepers work? The rules say that MiLB players have their salary increase $1 per year and MLB player's salaries increase $2 per year, so are a lot of guys typically cut each year to stay under the $400 cap?

Daily lineups, not scoring.

I have tweaked the rules to include daily scoring and an earlier draft start date. Let me know. Right now we have 3 tentatives for the final 3 slots so I will get them to make a decision soon (I am guessing all of them will be 'no' so be on the lookout.

Regarding scoring, just as comparison, if a pitcher gets 1 in every category it seems that using Fangraphs points will have .9 fewer points than with SABR Points. (I REALLY wish they'd get a better message board)

Ok, we will settle on daily lineups (with an IP cap, you won't be penalized too much if you aren't obsessive), how does starting the draft February 16 sound? We could plan for 2 hours a Sunday until finished (should take 2-3 Sundays).

Guys, am I missing something here? I was sure the league is daily lineups, regardless of settings. We're basically doing roto, only with points. Locking lineups for an arbitrary amount of time would be really strange
-
jh03- I'm fairly indifferent on all fronts. I would like to move up the auction also though.

I prefer daily leagues, don't really care about scoring or Arb!
-
I don't like the vote-off version of arbitration. Let's do the assign dollars to players in arbitration version
-

Daily/Weekly I am fine with either. I'm with Pete, sounds like auction draft takes a while, so maybe start when P&C report? (Okay, done spamming for now.)
-
Or, if you guys aren't into the FIP-style for pitching (no penalty for hits), then "FanGraphs Points" has the same formula for batting and tweaks pitching. (The offensive numbers there are the ones I really like).
-
I would very, very much like to see us use the "SABR Points" system, assuming I'm looking at the right choices (based on the linear weights for wOBA and stuff for batting and FIP for pitching). In fact, I thought that was the only choice, haha.
-
Hey guys ready to get going
-
Hi all, it's justinjabs. Pumped to be here, I've always wanted to try ottoneu. Let me get familiarized with everything then I'll voice my opinion on arbitration and stuff
