I keep using Mallex Smith, trying to recapture the glory days of 219 SBs in 2014. Brew, you think Edman is a 5.5 ppg guy going forward? How would he look if you just dropped, say, his last 10 or 15 games? Or if they went back to 2018 baseballs?

Edman plays 4 positions, plays everyday , and is 5.56 ppg. Very much of value in fantasy, especially at 1$ salary
-
I'll be attending my last mlb game of the season today w/ Wisconsin native Kevin Kritz of our Migratory Birds program. I'll be rooting with him for the Brewers, except when Arenando and Blackmon come up to bat... would love to see my team's HR total hit a nice round number value like 415.
-
Someday I hope there is a real-time reliable metric that will allow defense to be part of fantasy baseball.

Here, a slug who hits HRs wins you the league.
-
Nice in real baseball. In this league speed doesn't count for much, though back in 2014 folks had not yet realized that as practically half the league stole more than 130 bases and Bats 219 is the only league record set in 2014 that has stood the test of time so far.
-
Tommy Edman is trea Turner light. Impressive few months, love the speedy guys with a bit of pop too

I guess a true curmudgeon wouldnโt want anyone else in his club.

I assumed that was who he was referring to.

Henry dont join the curmudgeons club in here

I am tempted by the Jung kid. Wonder if he's related to Carl.

If I have to read up on them, I don't want them. I must be channelling George Steinbrenner.

Did you really take the time to read about every one of them Henry ? Come on now
-
I'm looking at all the auctions and my first thought is "someone is trying to grab all the cheap players and go into the offseason with an illegal roster" and my second thought is "I don't want a single one of those players."

then we're playing something other than ottoneu.
-
3) waiver order FA , ditch the auction bs
-
I'm with you Henry, only exception is when trading guys I deem too expensive to keep.
-
Next two league ideas: 1. no trades. 2. only trades. no free agents.

I don't think most of my trades are that good. I do much better signing free agents than trading. I should not trade.

Stay the course!...........
-
Mikey refuses to trade today's stars for tomorrow, sticks to his script and ideology ,unwavering in his resolve. Not me ,I panic by late may lol
-
And not to be forgotten, like the A's, you have storied Championship past!!
-
Given your supremely admirable allegiance to the Nats, I'm actually very impressed that your teams have done so well. You get my vote for GM of the year!
-
Mikey, Can we just pencil you in for 4th place in 2020? You seem to be the Oakland A's of this league... consistently existing on the borderline of success.
-
That would be fun but youโre still confusing the Nats with a team that can beat a good opponent in a meaningful game, and the Braves 2 best players are hurt (though itโs not clear how bad Acuรฑaโs injury is)...so a Dodgers-MIL/SL series seems more likely. But I hope youโre right!

My bracket sets up a Braves vs DC showdown for the NL pennant, pick em, too close to call
-
The Cards have been riding the shit out of CMart and Miller and Gallegos over the last week or two. Bet that catches up with them
-
Braves will beat Cards in 5
-
If DC can get by the 1 game series they will beat LAD in 6 or 7
-
Bring back Rick Monday and the famous basket catch !
-
After seeing Soto and Robles, it's obvious Cubs need an upgrade in CF. Almora should be cut .
-
They may also be turning delusional if they think CWS wouldn't laugh their asses off at that proposal and turn it down faster than the speed of sound.
-
Youโd think 5 straight losses to MIL and 4 to SL since the Nats beat them up would tell the Cubs fans the problem isnโt the Nats, itโs the Cubs.

For Luis Robert? The White Sox have paid $52 million split between signing bonus to Robert and tax, and now they have him at a bargain salary for years. Cubs fans think theyโre going to trade that for the last 2 expensive arb years of Bryant? Good luck.

The scars of DC running us blind with Soto, Robles, and turner run deep, and cubs fans are turning sour
-
Most callers think Cubs should do it
-
Hot stove is alive and well in chicago where they debated a possible trade : assuming the Cubs resign Casttelenos, should they trade Bryant for Robert's? Would cubs take that deal ? Would Sox take it ?
-
Also, if I'm being totally honest, back at the beginning of my "plan" Kloobs and I had some exchanges about the stupidity or wisdom of my plan that ended with me proclaiming my strategy would win a championship before his strategy would, which he dismissed as nonsense (rightfully so in retrospect). When fate struck last season to rob Kloobs and opened the door for my prediction to be achieved... well, I'd be lying if I didn't say I really wanted it!!
-
In that environment, I decided to cash in my one sure championship (or as sure as they ever are) rather than end up with a bunch of 2nd, 3rd, or worse placings to teams swamping me out with payroll wins. Pretty much what your future holds. One thing I learned as a 1990's Braves fan is that there's a huge difference between one championship and none!!
-
I had to face the reality of $800 payrolls. As the league has matured, the opportunities provided by the lack of any salary cap whatsoever have been understood and exploited to an ever increasing degree each season, from hardly being exploited at all during the founding season, to one team controlling nearly 25% of the league's total cap space this season. Without a meaningful salary cap, surplus value is largely meaningless; to win, you don't have to be salary efficient, just salary prolific.
-
However , I thought you mantra all along was to be the new England Patriots of fbb
-
Ngb ,you make a valid point. However you may have had enough firepower to win as is, without having to go to the crossroads and meet the devil. Also, you did a 180 on your dynasty project of being top team every year.
-
What ever happened to Brandon Moss? I suspect he was, overall, more useful in 2014 than Machado, who missed about half the year. Manny was just on loan anyway; I think Mikey sent him back in the off-season.

Brent and I made the first trade ever in FC, a very predictable Hanley Ramirez for CarGo swap. Back in the old days before this league and when he cared enough, Brent and i just traded the same players back and forth several times a year.
-
I was curious, so...
No big sell off moves, but you made several big trades early
In the year. You traded Pat Brandon Moss and Salazar for Machado (nice); traded me Homer Bailey for Zimmerman (you probably won that one if it was a year Zimm played); and traded Brent Cingrani for Josh Hamilton!
-
I think in that first year I won without making any significant trades. Though that was before the era of mega payrolls.
-
It'd be exciting to see you do it, but I just don't see Severino and Cole and pray for rain getting it done. Maybe you find 3 or 4 Lance Lynn types next season... but that's a heck of a long-shot.
-
You'd be the first champion in this league (during my time in the league) to get there without multiple block-buster trades.
-
Carry-on, I love watching grand experiments.
