Beer from another region is a great thing. I'd love it if one if you East Coasters would mail me some Troegs Nuggett Necter or Alchemist Heady Topper
-
Next season, everyone gets beer.

Also, receiving beer is like having a second Christmas.
-
I will only vote for one of these if teams get to pick one player to protect. You all have also convinced me that more than just last place should be penalized. Any doofus can avoid last place. Top 4 get a pay out, bottom 4 penalized, middle 4 spend their time trying join or avoid one of the other two groups. Keeps everyone engaged with meaningful incentives, and should make people a lot less likely to fire-sale. That’s my proposal.
-
Wrapping ,boxing mailing beer is a pain in the ass, I dont like how that penalty is being triviliazed
-
A new wrinkle I thought if. Perhaps no vote , 1st place gets to decide player to be removed, any player off 12th.
-
Kloobs, Unfortunately, until you actually compete your way into actually accomplishing something, you're getting the same response to anything you post... Kloobs, Kiss My Ring!!
-
Engaged yes, trying to do well, no. At least the prospect of losing players might make people less likely to fire-sale. Maybe the bottom four teams should lose 1 to 4 players.
-
This seems silly. It’s okay to play for 2020, but not for 2021? Anyone think NGB isn’t “engaged” all year? What’s the problem you’re trying to solve?

I'm a big yes vote for the severest 12th place punishment possible short of banishment.
-
I’ll never vote for kicking anyone out
-
If voting off player doesn't work, perhaps it is time to reconsider banishment
-
NGB, I think that’s pretty idiotic.
-
Interestingly, I scored 56.4% of the winning score in Capped FC. The Tigers won 43.9% as many games as the Astros. I had a ways to go to be an mlb worthy tanker!
-
I’d vote for that if each team gets to protect one player. That would be pretty painful and encourage continued engagement.
-
Sounds like a lot of agreement on some form of vote off. I’d rather it be last loses 2 of ANY type of player, and 11th loses one of ANY player, and I think that would still be a pretty light half measure that won’t necessarily encourage the one guy to field a team, but hey, it’s better than the clearly terrifying “you owe beer” penalty that was set in place last time.
-
The Braves bullpen.lsid an egg , Melancon doesn't have an out pitch
-
Good idea
-
I think the broader problem is that we are not really in agreement on what to incentive. But regarding vote off a player, to me the solution is fairly easy. The offending owner does not get to protect anyone, but only players that did not appear in the majors that season are eligible to be voted off.
-
Okay, while I though it too harsh to vote a player off the 12th place team, NGB has convinced my otherwise. I’d vote for that one now if they could protect a couple of players. In fact, I’d be willing to go with one off the 11th place team and two off the 12th, but I could see that sending bottom teams into a death spiral they have a tough time escaping.
-
What about voting a player off the team who finishes 12 th ?
-
...I’m willing to give it a try.
-
Stats, in response to your first post after mine, that’s exactly what I was attempting. I proposed differing payouts or penalties for different places, but that was quickly voted down and shifted to the more tiered approach, which didn’t accomplish my goal, but did improve things, in my opinion. But I’d still rather have something to play for throughout the season. Even if it’s just $50 or good beer. I’m not convinced this arbitration protection thing is going to be worth it, but...
-
Heh. I’ve got no illusions about who are the better ottoneu players here. I enjoy it anyway.

I was trying to beat kevin thzn bat all season, then mikey passed me , but I still best drew..I had plenty of motivation
-
But yes, your team was better than mine. Good Job.
-
I am generally not targeting first in year one and generally not really swayed by these sorts of small prizes. My foal was to put together a squad focused on next year and improve my points per day as the season went on. Which I accomplished. I don't think anyone is accusing guys who put up 16.5K and set their line up with mlb players is being a problem.
-
That said, I think all leagues are much more competitive in year 1 than they are in year 2 and beyond. The real test for the capped format is next season.
-
We didn't even really attempt that with player protection. The prize for 4th is the same as that for 8th. The format of the league as a whole should promote that though. Without massive salaries, it is much harder to build an insurmountable lead. As evidenced by Kevin's late charge and the overall tightness of the top three throughout the season.
-
Stats, what kind of incentive would you have needed to compete this year?

Regarding the Capped league, I think we have two different goals going on here. The talk has been focused on adding competitiveness, which is a worthy goal, but my main motivation was to add incentive to remain engaged throughout the season and try to do the best you can rather than just sell off your parts in June and turn to next year. I think the only real way to do that is to have a meaningful difference between finishing, e.g., 5th & 6th, etc.
-
I’m with Hook as it relates to arbitration protection. The other never would’ve occurred to me and just not at all what we were going for
-
Really settled on Lord Hobo Boom Sauce or Greater Good Smooooth as my beers of choice by the end of the Summer. But Beer season is over for me. Red Wine season is here.

I personally think logically the protect rule requires that a player be named before arbitration. Otherwise it's just a kind of arbitration whack-a-mole.

It's on tap everywhere in the state, it's become cache as you can only get their beers in Wisconsin.

Bat, spotted cow is a cream ale, very pedestrian, but most well known of new glarus .
-
I probably feel more strongly about this than most. I find providing significant cap relief for finishing 4th through 8th fairly problematic. I mean, how much incentive to do you need to participate in an enjoyable pastime? I suspect I'll be outvoted here, even though I doubt that anyone who finished 1-3 or 9-12 disagrees with me. I'm also happy to have Joe send the beer to anyone that wants to give me a $15 loan next season.
-
...But I bet you feel more strongly about this than I do.

Stats, thanks for your posts. I think a lot of the advantages apply at least equally to the alternate proposal; the idea that reduced allocations to teams 4 to 8 (but not 1 to 3!) would foster dynasties is misguided; and turning a protected player into a prime trade asset is not consistent with why I think we have this league. People don’t want to have to trade their guys.

Hey Fred, drinking a Spotted Cow. Good, very drinkable, but maybe a style my wife likes more than I do. Unfortunately, she can only have a little given her pain meds. (I’ll save the home brews til she’s off them.)

... Furthermore, all the arb $$ my team attracted during the building years had no effect whatsoever on the marketability of my players once I decided to sell. Maybe my case is not transferable because I had so thoroughly cornered the high-end prospect market. I'll let you guys decide if there's anything useful to be taken away from my experience.
-
For whatever it's worth, while I was team-building in this league I never received less than $32 of arb allocations (I took it as validation that I was successfully building my team), so I'm not so sure that anything we decide for Capped FC is really going to shift much $$ to building teams that wasn't going there anyway. Arb allocations on my team in this league were totally irrelevant anyway, I never made a single decision because I was attracting so much arb $$...
-
That would deincentivize tanking
-
How about 12th place has a player voted off his team ? 11th sends beer to 9th.
-
I agree that it would be a real incentive, if it were more than one player. Rebuilding teams tend to have a bunch of players in the range that would benefit. Being able to protect a “core” would be a true incentive. Otherwise I think beer becomes the “sweet spot.”
