Bear Glover's trade block has been updated!

One manager was upset at the timing bc he believed he didn't miss any noms. He could certainly be right. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something. But that was my reasoning anyway.
-
Not penalizing managers for missing a nomination is one thing. But I think it's important not to reward a manager for it either by letting them go to the very end and basically pluck off $1 players against no clock and no competition. This is why I ended the draft and opened it up to individual auctions when we got down to just a couple managers left. My recollection was that the managers at the very end had each missed at least one nomination.
-
Thanks GP. I believe that setting was actually the default last year. Danks didn't enforce it so he had to pause the draft several times during the to re-enable managers to nominate who skipped their bid. I figured I'd be consistent with that policy by keeping the setting off - which would also speeds things up.
-
Good news on the 'not skipping the bid at draft': Per Niv, that function is already built into the draft UI. It's just not default. So for next year, somewhere in the draft settings from commish's perspective, there should be an 'Enforce Nominations' box that can be selected.

Couldn't resist, the inner nerd is satisfied. Now back to baseball.

I can see the confusion because where you are from there is a place called "Bear Island"!
-
Ahhh, Bear Glover...I kept reading it as Bear Lover. 🐻❤️
-
I love that you guys not only figured out the connection, but the other awesome things it sounded like. Yeah, had to go big there or would've had to come up with another name.

See, now if only I had done my legwork like Blach Ops and realized that the team named after the guy was obligated to purchase him at any price. But all I could think of with the name "Bear Glover" was the dude from Punch Out: http://punchout.wikia.com/wiki/Bear_Hugger

but a blind auction bid of over $40 does say there is a link or at least some kind of an affinity.

Koda translates into Bear. Thought it was Alaskan, but it is in Cherokee.
-
Bear and Koda must be related

Hmm...dang, shoulda bumped my bid on Glover to $41

Bear Glover's trade block has been updated!
-
Rest assured, I have plenty of bubble gum...and I'm happy to share! ; )
-
I also would like to thank The Commish and the league. Good Luck to everyone. I'm new to this league, and I just have one thing to say. I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And, I'm all out of bubble gum.
-
Thanks to the commish and everyone for coming up with and agreeing to a solution for the small issue at the end of the draft. Good luck to everyone this year!
-
Seems we have a full roster of GM's ready to kick arse this year. #1 League overall Ottoneu is within our grasp.

Vote of confidence in BOI, as well. I think a reasonable solution in the future, which IIRC we used last year, was that if you skipped a pick, the commish could lock you. Now, if you popped right back up and said you were pooping or whatevs, the commish rescinded the lock. But if you were obviously playing around we could enforce it. Seems like the answer to me.

Last word. All I have to say is if these first 10 auctions should be won by either me, CornDogg51 or Yeah Jeets. I will shut up and be a quiet owner for the rest of the year if this is the case.
-
Avoid redundancy, however I like to add relevant input to the discussion: I wasn't there. Draft ending prematurely is taboo'ish. In regards to BoI, I believe he is qualified and thus will be an even better commissioner from this tiny oversight. We will find a solution.
-
I think that part of what makes an auction draft difficult is being able to think fast and knowing who you want ahead of time. With that said I'll respect this olive branch idea but only on the players put up for auction on the night of the draft. Otherwise you just had too much time to think on it.

i'll remove my bid then, but i would have waited to nominate the 4 players I nominated this AM had I known the draft ended early and players still had this many slots to fill. It's going to drive up cost.
-
As for the nominations, I know I missed one for sure (possibly two) and completely agree it shouldn't be allowed. I had intended to not miss the nom, just missed it updating my spreadsheet. Everyone should have to nominate every time. Unfortunately, the software does not force that. But I'm in agreement that it should work that way.
-
I completely endorse that solution (let the last 3 teams in the draft) have the 1st round of auction players. I can also verify that when I left the draft room, Corndogg, 39 Morons, and Jeets were all in there.
-
I agree that it should be required to nominate. If an auto nominate is an option in the future for someone who times out that would be my choice for how to set it up. Not sure Ottoneu gives that option at this point. I was as guilty as anyone last night but unfortunately it was not devious strategy on my part but the result of chasing my son around while my wife was out of town.
-
I totally agree with what Good Plumbers is saying, which is why I'm so fired up about this. I don't believe I ever missed a nomination during the draft last night, stayed until the very end, and yet, was unable to finish out the draft.
-
It is a perfectly valid strategy to try and backload your team with $1 at the end of the draft by being the last guy left to bid, but you must do so tactically by nominating $1 players that are more than likely going to be snatched up for $2 by someone else to put you in that position. Can't sit back and not nominate.
To be clear this is an issue first and foremost for Nev to resolve, and those who don't auction on other sites may not even be aware that 'must-nominate' is the standard.
-
Also there's a fundamental issue with the way ottoneu auctions work that we may also wish to address in future drafts. Auctions are usually coded in such a manner that makes it impossible to pass when it's your turn to nominate. In other words, you must nominate someone or a player is put up at $1 on your behalf. Those types of 'no-nom' passes happened a multitude of times in last evening's draft.
-
Plumbers also agree that only the 3 fellas left at the end should be able to bid on the first run of players.
-
I agree the final 3 should be the only teams allowed to bid on those opened last night
-
I kind of like the idea of allowing those teams that were still in the draft to be the only players bidding on that first round of 48-hour auctions. It'd be an olive branch for what happened at the end of the draft.
-
Since it was me, CornDogg51 and Yeah Jeets at the very end, I believe we should be the only owners able to bid on the 10 auctions starting at 7:52 pm and ending at 8:01 pm last night. Everybody else was either done or gone. If we can't do that, I say its bullshit. Because The Commish believes its "unfair" because the majority of the owners aren't able to bid. Well, that's why you stay until the very end! So, you and a couple owners can get the players you want for $1!
-
I don't think there was anything intentionally unfair done at all. But I put in 8 auction bids minutes after the draft for the players I would have filled out my roster with if given the chance. Based on me starting the auctions within minutes of it being available I think it is quite obvious I would have taken those guys in the draft. I don't want to bid on any of the other auctions but would like to be able to fill out my roster with my targets who I would have gotten had the draft not ended.
-
i don't think anyone thinks the commish meant any harm. I do have a bid on a player brought to auction by someone else, but i also assume that players with money will now bid on the players I nominated so it's wierd that i can't bid on yours nominees but you can bid on mine. feel me?
-
I'll give The Commish the benefit of the doubt, but this is the first time I've ever been in an Ottoneu league that ended the draft early because we should go to auctions instead of going to the last nomination in the draft. I was in a draft where I was the only owner left and got 8 players for $1, which I am sure what CornDogg51 was trying to do. I would want the players I put up for auction for $1 since there were only 3 owners left, and nobody was going to bid against me.
-
I understand your points, but we should all be on the same page before going into the draft and at the keeper deadline. I wouldn't have kept David Price at $39, Carlos Gonzalez at $36 and Jose Abreu at $35 if I knew that we aren't able to go to the end of the draft to stockpile on cheap players.
-
Maybe there is a solution here that would work for everyone. Maybe we can reactivate the draft and those unfinished teams can complete via the draft. If that's not possible, maybe Commish can manually add players via submissions on the message board. OR maybe we just use the 48-hour auction to round out teams. I'm not sure it's going to make a material difference at the end of the day, but I can certainly understand the frustration.
-
I don't think it was a "bullshit move" on Commish's part, because I don't think there was any negative intent. With that said, I agree that the draft should have been able to continue until all teams were finished drafting. While there is a mechanism in place to add players (48-hour auctions), it's not exactly the same as being able to add them via the draft. But again, let's keep in mind this is BOI's 1st year as Commish and I believe he was doing what he thought was correct.
-
i might have said it a little differently, but I agree with the sediment. isn't an auction draft supposed to go until everyone is finished? isn't there a specific strategy to hold out until you can find cheaper players at the end of the draft? I blew my wad in an hour but i'd like to know in the future that i could find $1 players if I was patient.
-
There were 3 owners at the very end who were able to nominate players to finish off the draft. Just my opinion, but I really think its a bullshit move to end the draft just because a few owners were done with the draft or out of roster spots. I had 19 open roster spots and $70 available going into the draft. I would have had a different strategy if I knew that the Commish doesn't believe in having the draft last until all owners are finished because its "unfair" to the other owners.
-
I nominated vlad jr as the last pick so I think I count, too
