I have in fact picked up the Wizard of hOZ team, my being the friend of the new Dirt Dogs owner, and will endeavor to get on ball, as it were, asap. Commissioner Pillar of Teeth, feel free to let me know anything you need form me just this moment. I look forward to playing here with you all.

Welcome to Dirt Dogs' new owner, who says their friend is looking to pick up Hozmer. Potentially filling the spots so soon after arbitration, rather than trying to get new owners to submit a legal list of arb allocations or manually increasing prices based on the system I mentioned, I'm just declaring arbitration over. There will be no more price changes, so you can start your offseason.

I discourage any shaming of Fish, life happens. I'm good with that.

Fish told me he would allocate and despite me reminding him yesterday, did not. Feel free to shame him as you believe appropriate. The other two non-allocaters were looking for new owners. I have an idea for how I might distribute the missing $75 based on current arb results without excessively piling on the same players. Without sharing the details so that you can't figure how it would affect you, would people like me to execute that? I'd share method after.
-
If anyone knows someone who would like to take over one of the abandoned teams (Wizard and Dirt Dogs) in time to get their arb allocations in, send them to a "Get a team" page or direct them to me or Pillar for instructions.
-
I had forgotten that arb started until the commish reminded me, so thanks for that. Now that there's been a reminder let's give people some time to do their allocations. And way to go on Pillar's other note, that our league finished #5 among all of this format! A bit surprising considering we had 4 teams not reach their innings minimum!

Yes, Roy. That's exactly what I'm implying. Congrats for cracking the code. My secret hope is that not everyone allocates, as if that's the reason I won the league or would somehow be likely to repeat. I won the league because my guys didn't get hurt and many of them had career years. I got lucky. Believe it or not, I want everyone to be active and allocate. But they have 2 more weeks to do it. So let's go easy on the inequity talk.

I sent an email to the owners who haven't allocated yet about 12 hours ago. I'll pester them more frequently the closer to the deadline we get. We've had full participation the last two years, so I'm hopeful we'll get there again.
-
As the league winner, are you implying that you don't mind if nobody allocates? That wouldn't be a coincidence. Yeah, 2 weeks left, I know. Snarky, but trying to keep this league competitive and fun.

Allocations is one of the biggest parts of playing the game. Without enough allocations, surplus value will be rampant and this league will look wildly inequitable heading into 2017. Anyone who wants to improve their standing next year has every reason to allocate. Allocate guys, play along if you want to be here.

Please remember that you can enter and then modify your arbitration allocations as many times as you want until the Nov 14 deadline. That means that getting some allocations in now is a great way of showing me you're paying attention. I'll start bugging people with no allocations at the beginning of November.
-
We did it! http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/ottoneu-power-rankings-final-2016/ I don't really know exactly what we did, but there's our name forever in an article on the mothership site.

Congrats Roar, and thanks everyone for another fun season. Is there some kind of mediocrity award that I can claim?
-
Congrats to Roar! It was a fun season. I'm already looking forward to the next one (with my own team name hopefully).

Thanks, guys. It was fun to have the race go down to the wire. I attribute the final result mostly to luck and good health.

Tight race between the top 2 still! Lebowski's gotta find places to gain 2 points on Roar; not sure if it can be done.

Yeah all those guys he cuts we're free to nominate and bid on for $1 right, just like everyone else? I don't see the issue aside from all the emails we get haha.
-
Sorry to be an absentee commissioner, but I'm glad that it seems like you guys worked it out. Like everyone else, I was blown away by the out-of-proportion hostility in Marco's initial response, but I'm willing to believe it was an attempt at humor that misfired. As to the auctions, I'm not smart enough to come up with a way this is giving Marco an unfair advantage. It uses cap space and locks him out of bidding on the players he cuts for the rest of the season. Am I missing something?
-
Bad habit. My extravagant cap allows me to be a little careless in bidding and starting auctions. I bid on who I like, and decide later who's the best fit for my 2017 plans. I see how that's irritating and I will try to stop in order to be a better leaguemate. I admire the teams you've all built. No harm intended, once again I was just trying to joke around. Hope I am better understood now. Whoever wants to chime in, feel free. Good luck on your seasons.

Freeing up cap space with the auction-and-drop trick seems established as an ok thing. The confusing thing is when you add and very quickly cut guys who were not on your penalty list, which uses cap room rather than freeing it, and seems to offer no benefit to you.
And the 30-day rule should also restrict some of this behavior, so it's probably not a big issue. Appreciate your candor in explaining your thought process.
-
All cuts I pay penalty for. All players I cut I cannot reauction or bid on for 30 days. That's how the game is designed. Freeing up $$ is rebuilding strategy. I can choose to be as frugal or as free-spending as I like. I can also choose to have an extravagant cap, just as you choose to have a smaller one.

the rules, I will no longer do that thing. I am new to ottoneu this year, and trying to rebuild as effectively as possible. In my other league I have 80+ players (!) on my cut list. So, I'm sorry for the bitterness, but I'm an honest man just trying to play fantasy baseball. If you need to turn off email notifications for cut players, please do so.

I too apologize, especially for the wavering criticisms. I was being serious initially criticizing the Strasburg trade; the second time I was just trying to be funny. I don't see any sort of "taxi squad", however. Any team can reauction the players I cut at a half-priced minimum. The players I bid on I sincerely want; I am trying to assemble the best 40 players I can for next season. I can't pinpoint how you think my style breaks the rules. If you can pinpoint something I do that break

Dude, you are too kind! I was being overly polite. I completely agree with you. Marco has been the highest bidder on dozens of players, only to turn around and cut them a few days or weeks later. He has 39 players -- 39! -- on his cap penalty. Whether he does this out of boredom or some mysterious master plan, I don't know; but it's perfectly reasonable to ask, you know, what the @#%! he's doing.
Roar from 34 on

Also it doesn't even make sense: first he criticizes my trade saying I got Strasburg too cheap, then he says I should have known Strasburg would be worse than Pomeranz who I gave up. Which is it?
-
First off, I apologize if my message was a bit snarkier than necessary. But my serious concern is that Marco is able to use his salary cap space to effectively prevent any other team from making transactions. Maybe that's ok, maybe it's a problem, but that response, wow.
-
The friendly patter on the message board has taken a decidedly sour tone. To clarify the rules of the game, each team is in charge of a 40-man roster. If Marco chooses to have 39 players on his cap penalty list, then that is his right. But any attempt to deploy those players as some sort of taxi squad for the active roster is prohibited. Isn't that right, Commish?

What's up Jamie Moyer? Butthurt you weren't able to save your pitching ratios before the deadline? Still interested in Bumgarner? Giolito? Did Pomeranz turn out to be a better option than Strasburg? Did you underestimate the importance of a strong bullpen? Having trouble targeting arms? Try FIP next time.

What's going on, Marco? You're into just picking up and cutting guys to reach some kind of salary floor? Or unlock a dead money achievement?

Hey guys, I have a friend who is interested in taking over one of the departing owner's teams. I let him look at both, and he wants Choo. So just a heads up that that team will begin to be active again. Cool?

The Rime of Jamie Moyer's trade block has been updated!

If it matters, I thought the trade was fine. I'd slightly prefer the Strasburg side, but if each of Gallo and Wacha were a couple bucks cheaper I'd probably tip that way.
-
In other words, not trying to discourage trading, just trying to make the market more competitive.
