under the requirement that I have at least two players at each position can a utility player who qualifies for two or more positions fill the requirement of a backup at more than one position. For example can I use Jedd Gyorko to be both my second first baseman and second shortstop?
-
Thanks for the advice and clarifications - what I think I understand from the rules is that I have to end the auction with a 22 man roster of MLB-level players, and it seems from what you both are saying is that only one of them must be a catcher, but that on a daily basis we are allowed to have two catchers in the starting lineup (which is then 23 in number) and should plan on doing so, etc.

You can have zero if you want, but you only need one. There are two catcher spots on the roster, but note that you cap out at only 162 catcher-games for the season. Most catchers end up sitting so many games a year that it can be helpful to start two at once to make sure you can get to the maximum.
-
You need more than one player at every position. You just get to start two catchers at a time to make it easier to get to 162 games. If you end the auction with only one 3B on your roster you've made as big of a mistake as if you only have one C.
-
Ok, I will finally just ask: do I need to end the auction with 2 MLB catchers or just one?

I'm very confident we'll be able to finish the auction in one session, I was just happy to hear we'd compressed our time zones to the point where it was literally possible to do a weeknight session.
-
Better for me if we finish on Sunday, so no time limit there for me.

Yes, AFAIK the intent is to do as much of the draft as we can on that Sunday starting at 4pm ET. Are there folks who would need a hard cutoff time at 3 hours, 4 hours?
-
No; that works for me. Thanks for the reminder. To be clear, we're still targeting Sunday the 26th at 4 Eastern for our main session? This is just if we go over?

So are we reserving Tuesday the 28th, 8:30E/5:30P for the overflow draft session? Anyone have a problem with that?
-
I just went back and looked at the earliest trades in this league. The very first one is pretty amusing now. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/28/viewtrade?id=135&pending=1

I'm good any weeknight that week (March 27th-31st) at/after 5:30 Pacific. It's looking like Tuesday if we want to do a follow-up weeknight that week given everyone else's schedules, though.

I'm good for any weeknight except Monday.
-
That time on the 26th is good for me, and I can do an evening session any night that week except Wednesday. We should also remember that everyone's teams don't HAVE to be filled in the draft, as we can start 48-hour auctions immediately after declaring the draft finished.
-
I'd rather not do a second session during the week, but I can imagine that could make the Sunday session very long. So, that said, I believe I could make a 8:30/5:30 weekday start time work as long as it is not on that Thursday, and as long as we stick to the time limit the Co-Commish mentioned.

Both sound great to me, and I'm in favor of a second session *if* it would work with everyone else's schedule.

Based on input so far, I've scheduled the auction for 4pm ET, 1pm PT on Sunday, March 26th. I think that works for everyone who's spoken up so far, but let me know if it doesn't. Also, having everyone in NA does make it plausible that we could have a second, short session to finish up on a weeknight, with something like a 8:30pm/5:30pm start time and a 90-minute hard cap. We'd arrange specifics during the first session, but let me know now if that would absolutely never be possible for you.
-
And I'm on MST. As long as it's after March 20th and after either 5:30PM MT (weekdays) or 4PM MT (weekends), I'll be able to make it.

I'm on PST. My schedule is mostly random and the end of March is way too far out for me to predict my availability but I should be able to make time whenever it is scheduled.

Thank you for the kind words and the promotion (I think... really it's more responsibility than glory, believe it or not). ;-) I look forward to taking some of the burden off Pillar, and everyone please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.

I can do either March 25th or 26th, but would be quite challenged to do any weekday time.

Any day between March 20th and April 1st should work for me (California time here).

March 26th sounds good, and any time after 4PM EST would work for me. Are we sure we don't want to schedule two sessions with 196 players going?

I have another draft at 11 am (EST) on the 26th, so I'm good for pretty much any other time. If everyone is on North American time, maybe in the afternoon of the 26th?
And given how involved Rime has been, I think co-commish is a great idea. Does this mean if the two of you finish 1-2 next year we can claim collusion? :)

All Hail The Co-Commish!
Our league will be built on a Pillar of Rime and the Teeth of Jamie Moyer.
Sounds very sturdy to me.

I've made Rime a co-commissioner with me. He's always found better owners to join this league than I have (BIPOLAR BEAR DON'T CARE was one of the worst owners we've ever had and my brother), and thus knows a few of you in real life. He's been helping me out more and more with running the league, so I wanted to give him access to all available tools for that. I'll still try to be the one to communicate with the league and fix transaction errors, but he has access to that now too.
-
Opening day is Sunday, April 2, so maybe sometime the weekend of March 25-26 is best for us. Is anyone not on US time? Also I have the count at 284 players kept, meaning we're under 200 max to be taken in the auction. We should figure out whether that takes one or two auction sessions.
-
And I'm out of pocket from March 17th-19th. Could we maybe plan for a couple of days on/after the 20th? That should give us some time to see what shakes out in ST before bidding as well.

Now that we're post-keeper deadline, just putting it out there for draft planning purposes that I'm out of the country from March 5-12th, so hopefully we can find a time after that?
