Exactly. He's worth about $5 on a contending team. You just never know what Zack is gonna give you. And neither does he. He's basically Marco Gonzales at their best. $5 Shake.
-
Wow I didn't realize how far Greinke's K rate had dropped til looking just now.
-
Zack! Was a clear offseason cut and I now have three catchers. Figured what the hell. Odds are I trade him in the next month or cut him in the offseason. Unless he goes on a tear post covid and then I have a difficult decision but nevertheless a good decision to have to make.
-
Zach!!!
-
man, I just couldn’t justify Yelich hitting 1.5 homers
per month at $45 bucks! maybe he pulls out of it?
-
The previous post caused me to chortle audibly.
-
Zack Greinke requires no thanks as he has yet to acknowledge the existence of other people as conscious beings.

thanks for all your contributions Christian Yelich! we are wishing you a fresh start with your TBD new team.

Anyone need some catcher power, Gary Sanchez is on the block. Looking for 2022 breakout value, especially pitching.

Oh that's good. Still rooting for that kid who was with the Rime for 59 days.

I was *just* going to post the same... but you beat me to the punch! haha

Agreed. That post made me nervous for his health. Hopefully he will come out of this alright, baseball aside.
-
I hope/imagine it's his revenge on Tony La Russa, but I also dread/imagine that he's not in a good head space.

I was disappointed to see that Darvish gave up six runs in 3 IP last night, until I saw that the opposing pitcher, some guy named Scherzer, gave up 7, including a grand slam to the opposing pitcher, and didn't get out of the 4th.
-
It's crazy how hyped Ohtani, Tatis, and Vlad Jr. all were... and that they're all delivering! So much fun.
-
what Ohtani is doing is unprecedented - MVP hands down… then dude is from another galaxy.
-
As great a hitter as Tatis Jr. clearly is, it is his play in the field that regularly blows my mind and causes me to believe he is the best athlete to ever play baseball...except, perhaps, for Ohtani, who is simply beyond compare.

carry on…
-
Equally ridiculous or EVEN MORE So is that now the only guy in the majors who’s out-slugging him is an AL pitcher!
-
It’s ridiculous that Fernando's current slugging percentage is the highest ever by any shortstop since 1900....by nearly SEVENTY points!
-
what is the luxury tax threshold @saint :)

loved the breakdown @rime!

Interesting read. The IH chronicler never rests.

Golf clap, Commish.

Finally, in 2021 St. Nolaeans managed their love of Mad Max with the cap constraints, sending him and his $52 salary to Six Toe in January for tall prospect Oneil Cruz before the keeper deadline, and then re-acquiring him this month for a prospect platter of Cade Cavalli, Emerson Hancock, and Heriberto Hernandez. Time will tell how that pans out, but it's the latest in a recent trend of win-now teams acquiring the ace to try and put them over the top. Saludos, Max!

A fairly major offseason deal, Rime took on Scherzer with Rich Hill and David Peralta ($73 total) for a bargain basket of Sixto Sanchez, Cal Quantrill, Will Smith (C), and Cristian Pache ($11 total). After the pandemic-delayed 2020 season finally got underway, Rime was off to a very poor start and made a quick deal with St. Nolaeans for Freddie Freeman (soon flipped himself), Jose Urquidy, and Luis Arraez.
-
In January 2013, Scherzer was traded for a third time, this time to the commish's team Pillar of Teeth, for prospects Nick Franklin and, huh, Trevor Bauer. And that's where he stayed for the next six (incredible) years, a bankable 250 K's, sub-3.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP. Also accumulated arbitration raising his price from $22 to $46. In January 2019, I believe Mateo had taken over the Pillar team and named it Inkosi-kaas, and kickstarted the rebuild by trading Scherzer back to his original team.
-
I sold Scherzer, Granderson, and Shin-Soo Choo to the old owner of the Six Toe franchise for a cheap Alex Gordon and a couple of promising young pitchers named Jordan Zimmermann and Jeremy Hellickson. That franchise - which may have been "Chasing Steve Avery" ?? - won the pennant before dealing Scherzer the next summer to the team that is now Mighty Monsters, straight up for JJ Hardy. Ah, the preciousness of even a little power from your shortstop those days! That team finished second
-
Monday Mad Max History! Coming off a promising first year with the Tigers, Scherzer was selected in the inaugural Imaginary Hammers draft for $18 as part of a young Rime of Jamie Moyer team that included Mike Trout, Giancarlo Stanton, Manny Machado, and Yu Darvish... and finished 11th. Just in a bit too early. Max struggled a little (4.43 ERA / 1.35 WHIP) and was dealt to whichever team eventually became Six Toe in a large deal.

For the record, Hammerin' Hank never hit for the cycle, or with a sickle, as far as I know...

Related question: who here has been in the league since Byron (Pillar of Teeth) was the commissioner, and who has been here since the inception in 2011?
-
And frankly I was raised an anti Commie child in the 70's so I always associated that song with the Hammer and Cycle. Pretty sure that wasn't exactly what it's about. Though the song is pretty vague. If you think about its actually kinda facist in a broad sense . In a "my way or the highway" kinda way. Or maybe I'm just projecting. Yes Saint.
-
Someone's gotta hammer...
-
I know how to measure twice and cut once. Any reasonable father will teach you that. And we made wine when I was a kid but water was an additive not the source. This Jesus guy is trip.
-
Yeah. It's not like I'm a carpenter. Are any of us?
-
I'm kind of with Chris on this one. I like to think of it as being rooted in the abstract.
-
I like that cus any reference to Hank is honorable but I always have felt like it was more abstract. Like If I Had Hammer. But I don't. So I wrote a song about having a hammer. When I could have just gone to the hardware store. And then I would really have a hammer. But what would I really use it for?
-
I'll guess a Hank Aaron fan was involved, though that's perhaps just wishful thinking on my part...

Does anyone know the origin of the league name Imaginary Hammers?
-
Oh man, do I have to trace Mad Max's path through the IH league now? The 2011-13 trades aren't directly linked from his player page so it'll take some searching.

Two words: Elaine Benes.
