Correa is probably a slightly better hitter and defender and younger. I'm still inclined to say Story though just because the talent is close and I think Story is more fun.
-
Who would you rather have on your favorite team, Story or Correa and why?
-
Interesting 24 hours in baseball! Donaldson and IKF to NYY, Olson to Atl, Winker to Sea, Tatis to the DL. Tomorrow could be an even bigger baseball news day.
-
Since a $340 million player apparently can't ride a motorcycle and couldn't talk with his team or any of their doctors/trainers for a few months I'm in need of a SS more now than previously! Even if just a depth/bench type SS I'd move a depth OF for one. Would move a better player for a clear starting SS. Mostly looking to move from guys on my block but open to any ideas/discussions.

Looks like a great trade for the Braves. Saving $12-15m/yr by not signing Freeman and trading for Olson.
-
Looks like Freddie Freeman’s tenure in Atlanta has come to a close.
-
Desperately Seeking Outfielder.
-
If the Sox hadn’t accidentally won it all in 2013 and finished in last place again like they did in 2014 it would have been bad.
-
Red Sox can’t afford to do a true rebuild. There is too much competition for spectators in Boston and a true rebuild would turn away fans. I could understand a soft rebuild like when they jettisoned all those underwater contracts to LAD in 2012 but they don’t seem to be burdened by those kinds of contracts right now. Multiple consecutive poor finishes would be bad for the long term health of the organization, and they have enough good young players to ensure they couldn’t even do that.
-
Royce Lewis hasn’t played a game in 2 years. I would love to have seen him up as much as anyone but not sure he can be expected to contribute in 2022, or even if he will be good after missing so much development. I don’t get the Garver trade either though. I know he’s not young but he’s also in his first year of arb, and he’s actually good compared to the guy they got.
-
I’d bet the Red Sox sign at least one hitter, maybe not a huge $ guy like Correa, but I’d think they at least add a hitter at corner OF or 1B.
-
Milwaukee definitely makes sense to add an OF and/or 1B bat. They have extremely good pitching, and are in a position to have a big season.
-
Yankees are in a bit of a pinch at SS. Who starts at SS for them without adding someone? Torres, Urshela, Volpe, Peraza? I thought Simmons was an option but he is a Cubs now.
-
Twins starting Lewis would be great for my Ottoneu team. I hope they do. But did they trade Garver just for a utility player? I’m just guessing, but that move struck me as meaning Falefa will at least start the year at SS, maybe for a couple months anyway.
-
Yeah that trade made no sense for the Twins. I also think Red Sox should probably rebuild, unless the go spend quite a bit still. They just don't have the talent to compete in the AL East as of right now.
-
Castellanos or Conforto to Milwaukee makes a lot of sense to me. If they sign one of the two, pick up another bat like Cruz or Schwarber and I would put the Brewers just behind the Dodgers in the NL.
-
I don't see the Yankees spending a lot of money, they only have $8.5m below the luxury tax and Story isn't worth a $200m contract.
-
Why do the Twins need a SS? Especially a below average one. Start Royce Lewis instead. I don't know why the Red Sox would spend money, they should rebuild.
-
BTW, wtf are the Twins thinking? My teams suck (Cubs, Twins).

There is the Big Ten hockey semis to watch. Notre Dame/Michigan and Minnesota/Penn State.

Being from England I can attest to this!

Day 5 of England-West Indies test match, live from Antigua on ESPN+ right now. Really good match. If you are looking for an alternative to spring training baseball, Cricket from the Caribbean is a great option.
-
I’d love to see Freeman sign with Boston, and Dalbec get traded. Lots of teams could use a 1B/3B/DH - Rangers, Braves, Phillies, Brewers…. JDM and Boegarts are free agents after this season. Doubt it will happen but I can hope, at least for the next few hours until the max dash of free agents and trades goes nuts.
-
I like that trade for Garver. He should play more games in Texas and probably DH when he isn’t catching. Falefa probably plays a lot in Min also - they needed a SS with Polanco at 2B, Martin probably seeing time in CF and Lewis a total ?
-
TRADES!!! - Garver to the Rangers!

I’m snowed in with a “cyclone bomb” coming through, so to kill time my predictions: Kris Bryant-Red Sox. Trevor Story-Yankees. Correa-Angels. Freeman-Dodgers. Cruz-Braves. Schwarber-Res Sox. Castellanos-Brewers. Jorge Soler-Mariners. Eddie Rosario-Phillies. What do you think?
-
I have assumed Braves will re-sign Freeman but maybe not. I keep reading Freeman-Dodger rumors.
-
Correa has a big decision to make. Would anyone be shocked if the Rangers sign him? Seager to 3B, Semien at 2B. Correa at SS. Maybe they can sign Trevor Story to play 1B too and make it a clean sweep.
-
Probably Pirates 🤣. They could use a big bat in that lineup, and they have room under the luxury tax threshold.
-
Maybe Padres? That's the long time speculation if the DH came to the NL. Could also see the Brewers. But I'm hoping for Colorado!

Was just gonna say, is it truly over now?? Seems pretty definite they came to an agreement and will start April 7th with Spring Training games 8 days away!

Is this real!? Are we back?? Please tell me baseball is back!!

If the Rule 4 amateur draft makes sense, then why would an international amateur draft not also make sense? If the players object to an international draft, what sense does it make for them to accept the rule 4 draft? Draftees are not MLBPA members, so I don’t see what an international draft is a sticking point at all. Why is this in dispute?
-
I also do not understand the desire to outlaw defensive shifts. Seems too subjective to me to enforce that. Besides the pitcher and catcher, teams should be able to position their defenders in whatever they think are the most optimal positions to successfully record outs. What’s next, preventing infields from playing in, or outfielders from a no doubles defense or not allowing them to play too deep or shallow?

We must be living in the darkest timeline. I just want to watch baseball.
-
I think one of the worst parts of cancelling even more games now is that there will be new arguments about accruing service time and whether or not the players get paid for cancelled games. Sounds like the two sides already disagree on it and will just create even more hindrances to coming to an agreement that weren’t there a couple weeks ago.

Manfred put on his sad face to announce owners are canceling more games. Grinning and smiling the first time was a bad look. At least act like you care.
-
It was dumb to say “best and final” and then make another offer. But after the players lose a month or 2 of paychecks and realize there are no more offers coming, the union will cave.
-
Like you said before, it was a dumb move for them to have previously stated it was their final offer if it’s truly not. And then who’s to believe them if they say it again since they already said it once and it wasn’t true.

I hope the owners make it clear the offer on the table is the final offer, and I hope they keep players locked out until they sign it. Just tell the players publicly, “We know you will fold eventually. It is 100% up to you when you start getting paid again.” Enough of this nonsense.

It’s also possible I just enjoyed everything more 20 - 30 years ago, and I’m just a bitter aging guy who gets pissed off too easily now 😁. But for sure if it were up to me (which it’s not), sports would slow the rate of change and put a higher value on tradition. I know they need to adjust to where the $ is, but since I’m not the decider I am allowed to wish it was the old days.
-
But I also know it doesn’t matter at all what I enjoy - I can see where NCAAF is going and I know I’ll still watch, so who cares what I enjoy? Even I don’t really care very much. I just liked the older style of the game. Same with MLB - I have no voice in what they do, and I’ll still watch. But I enjoyed it more 20 years ago.
-
I hate the expansion of conferences. Way too many teams in the SEC and Big 10. The “Big 10” has 14 teams and wants 16?! Insane. I enjoyed college football much more 20 years ago.
-
I wish that wasn’t the case. I would love to see 8 teams with actual chances of winning it all and producing exciting games. While program dominance is cyclical, talent distribution is not and always produces 1 or 2 teams who are very clearly better than everyone else. The Any Given Sunday principle of the NFL unfortunately does not historically apply in NCAAF.
-
I have no horse in the race. I live in Boston, went to school in Delaware, and couldn’t care less who wins. I want to see good games and the CFP does not deliver that.
-
Relatively young I suppose - I’m 38 and have been watching college football a long time. Objectively almost every semi final game has been a blowout since the start of the CFP, and so have many of the championship games. These are supposed to be the best teams and they earned the right to be there, and still we see 2 or more blowouts out of 3 games every year. Adding teams does not seem to serve any purpose to me other than to satisfy fans of teams who have no chance of winning anyway.
-
@Spa City - Each school has at least 1 if not 3 garbage game on their schedule. They could easily eliminate them, replace them with more conference games and get rid of the conference championships. Back in the day, every conference team was on a team's schedule. Kind of makes sense to me. These super conferences make no sense to me. Essentially the SEC is swallowing up the old SWC with Oklahoma and Texas now joining.
-
@The Onk - The debates on who should get in gets watered down with expanded playoffs. Your assumptions that the SEC will dominate indefinitely is misguided. You must be relatively young and only remember the past 15 or 20 years of college football. Program strength is cyclical. Alabama was a pretty mediocre program 15-20 years ago. Also with an expanded format I think you will get schools throw a bit more into their programs because of the greater chance at glory.
