Watching Red Sox/Twins now, Buxton just masked his fifth homer. His swing is so good now, couple that with his athleticism, I see 40 homers IF he can play 140 games.
-
Yeah I took the bet last year when they just had to win over 80 games... I am far less confident in this team being able to win over 87 with the starting rotation they are running out there.
-
On the other hand they get to beat up on the pathetic Orioles 19 times.
-
It’s hard to estimate end of season records because rosters can change so much during the season with injuries and trades. But from this POV, the Sox seem to have some serious holes. When the Sox play JDM in LF, with Xander and Devers at SS, 3B, and Dalbec at 1B, they are giving runs away. Sox’ rotation looks thin with Sale hurt, and their ‘pen looks rough. They will need to score a LOT of runs with their pitching and defence problems.
-
Fangraphs somehow have the Red Sox winning 87 games. I like the under a lot. Anyone want to make a little wager? Squirrels???
-
If Scherzer’s injury is worse than the initial reports, the Mets are so screwed. They always downplay initial injury news, so I’m assuming there is something worse than just “not quite ready for opening day.”
-
Kimbrell for Pollack is a nice trade for both sides.
-
If the Mets don’t make the playoffs, Steve Cohen’s net income will be a $150 million loss I predict. Including a luxury tax of $20 million the Mets payroll is around $300 million.
-
Oof losing DeGrom is going to really hurt my chances as well.
-
Wasn’t expecting a full season of DeGrom but 100 innings maybe. Looks like maybe not.
-
Jake DeGrom having an MRI due to “shoulder tightness”. Mets could be a mess. They have about 6 players who should only play 1B or DH. They have over $75M tied up in 2 pitchers well into their 30s. If they lose DeGrom, the Mets could turn into a very expensive tire fire.
-
Anybody need an outfielder? I seem to have quite a few now. Would love some pitching help.
-
Probably a good move for both clubs.

Countdown to the Dodgers signing Michael Conforto…. 3… 2… 1…

14 strikeouts in 19 at-bats so far in Spring Training, is it possible that Bellinger could have a worse year than last?
-
If anyone is interested in Flaherty, I’ll take whatever the best offer is - even if it is a lousy offer. I’m so tired of pitcher injuries, I always assume any SP injury news means surgery. Maybe I’m wrong, but who cares? I’d just be happier not carrying an I hired SP. If he is healthy, you get an upper tier SP for cheap.
-
I’d like to open some roster spots for players on my watchlist, and I’m more focused on picking up players I like watching than just worrying about how many points they accumulate. If you are looking for current value, let me know.
-
My team has too many holes to worry about RP…. If you need a closer, I have Barnes and Doval to offer. If you need C, Garver is available. If I could move one of my SP to fill a couple of needs, I’d do that also.
-
I'm not even a fan boy really. Admittedly there is a wide range of possible outcomes here but the high end is Top 10 outfielder if Steamer is right so I'll roll the dice.
-
I reduced my initial bid this morning from $25… didn’t even matter

Holy smokes, $26 for Suzuki! Rockers, I hope that you are right.
-
I think the Story signing is a good one as well. Pretty silly to stick him at 2B though as Story is the better fielder.
-
Trevor Story at 140/6 seems reasonable after the Seager, Lindor, Semien contracts. Trevor Story is a very good player - it’s just silly how all Rockies hitters seem to get written off as being so inflated by Coors Field that they can’t be valuable at sea level.
-
If anybody has faith in “platelet rich plasma” (whatever that is), Jack Flaherty and his ailing shoulder are both available for cheap. I have no idea whether PRP treatment is advanced, reliable medical tech, total witch doctor quackery, or just a last gasp effort to avoid the knife.
-
I remember this topic being discussed when Pujols signed his big contract. Not sure how outdated some of this is, but I think you might find this interesting: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/pujolsian-tax-implications/

I wonder what the total tax hit is in a salary for a player in NY or Calif compared to other states. What would Yankees need to pay compared to (e.g.) Rangers for the player to take home the same post-tax income? Maybe players don’t care that much, or maybe I’m over estimating the difference.
-
I really like their moves overall as well. Got the Yankees to take on $50 million of Donaldson and are only on the hook for $105 million at most for Correa who is a definite upgrade. Wonder if they Yankees wish they hadn't done that now and got Correa on a similar deal. Sonny Gray was a good pickup as and agree that they might need another good SP to contend for the division but it's much easier to see them making a run now than a couple weeks ago.

I love what the Twins have done this off-season. I was really confused at first, but really like how it has come together. I think they still need another SP, I think they will get Montas or Manaea. Maybe both?
-
I think I’m selling the Twins short. They have the young players to turn it around in a hurry. I am happy to see star players signing with small/mid market teams even if it means the players get very friendly terms. I think I’m also underestimating how difficult it would be to walk away from $35M AAV to take an annual pay cut on a long term extension.
-
I think trading Donaldson was in part to open 3B for Jose Miranda, who could be very good. Urshela isn’t keeping Miranda at AAA long.
-
Yeah good point about the other SS’s. I like the contract but don’t really understand the context. Is MIN going for it this year? Trading away Donaldson tells me they’re not, and if they’re trying a soft rebuild there is no guarantee Correa will be there in 2023 unless he leverages a longer deal. MIN holds all the risk of paying $35M and getting nothing in return if they finish under .500 and he opts out.
-
Saving my $$ and roster spot for Suzuki!
-
I assume Trea Turner will be seen as the best SS on the market. Xander Boegarts will also be available, perhaps not ahead of Correa but he will give teams leverage as an extremely good option. I agree Correa will still be in line for a huge contract next year, but I’m surprised he didn’t have an offer to his liking for huge $ and 7+ years. Works out great for the Twins.
-
Correa got opt-outs after each season. If he puts up another 5+ WAR I think he’s gone after 2022 and will be in position for the monster deal as the clear best SS on the market.
-
3 years is a real plus for the Twins signing. To pay the extra $5m/yr in AAV is well worth it. If the Twins trade for Montas, I think the Twins would have a chance at giving the White Sox a run for the division.
-
I need to open a roster spot. I have prospects I would sell for cheap, maybe a small loan. Mayer, Walker, Vientos, Vargas, Lewis. Or maybe a 2 for 1 trade? I’ll need to cut someone so I don’t have a lot of bargaining strength.
-
Correa signing with Twins is interesting. 3 year contract is nice. They won’t be stuck paying for Correa’s decline. Nice move for Twins. I wonder if they will move MI prospects like Martin, Lewis or Miranda for pitching.
-
Wouldn't mind freeing up a bit of cap space so if any fringe type guys on my block interest you I'd possibly part with them for next to nothing, or maybe nothing!

Flaherty has “shoulder trouble”… always great to hear a pitcher has a shoulder problem.

Now Adley Rutschman has a strained right triceps and is being shut down for 2-3 weeks. The injury beat goes on.

I agree, I like that move for the Braves overall even though they gave up young talent to make it happen. Freeman is a stud but I’d take Olson as the younger and likely cheaper option. The fact that they made this move tells me Freeman will command a decent amount more.

If the Braves had kept Freeman I think he would've gotten a 6-8 year deal for way more money than that. They just signed Olson who is basically just a younger version of Freeman on a great deal. Big win for them.
-
Braves signed Olson for $21M/year. That seems like a good deal to me. I know he is 1B only, but he seems like a good bet to provide very good value on that deal. Rumor mongers have been throwing around 6 year-$180M for Freeman, which might be wild speculation but elite free agents tend to get paid insane $ so I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets close to that. Braves are smart.
-
Yeah it must be rough to see your team sell off when Spring Training is starting. At least with the Cubs they got back some value for players on expiring contracts who were gone in a few months anyways. I do like the move for the M's though, good to see them going for it. Suarez is a nice replacement for Seager and an OF consisting of Haniger, Winker, Kelenic, Lewis and J-Rod at some point is really solid. Some risk for sure but a lot of upside IF they can stay healthy.

Sorry for Reds fans today. What a joke.
-
I think Story is actually the better overall player. Correa might be the better hitter by a small margin but I think Story is clearly the better fielder. I think the 2 years age difference is a factor for a contract.
-
From a pure player quality standpoint, Correa and it’s not even close. When healthy he’s one of the best players in the league, and he’s 2 years younger. Story will probably still be pretty good but his best years are behind him. But if we are talking actual contracts like Correa getting Seager’s deal and Story getting 6 years for $150M then I’d rather have Story.
