Padres signed Xander - 11 years! AAV around $26M. They now have Xander, Machado, Tatis, Kim, and Cronenworth all capable of playing SS, and their top prospect is a SS. But I guess if you can play SS, you can play most positions.
-
Where does the Padres’ money come from? If San Diego can run a $300M payroll, why can’t Pitt, KC. Tampa, et al afford even 1/3 of that?
-
I guess possibly things like deferred money, opt outs, no trade clauses or possibly offering a larger deal but spread out over more years and therefore lesser AAV could all be factors as well but still would be disappointing to miss out on two top targets in a row like that.

I also saw the Padres reportedly offered him $400 million, and they reportedly offered Turner $342 million, maybe taxes are a part of it but seems like a decent gap between their offers and what the players are choosing.

Judge still a Yankee at 9 years, $360,000,000. Picked a good year to hit 62 home runs!
-
I dig the lottery so far - it won't totally fix the issue, bc the baseball draft is such a crapshoot, but so far so good. Of course, I'm also a Twins fan, so maybe I'm just biased right now haha...
-
The Twins a big winner in the lottery moving up eight spots to #5.

Pirates finally won something! The draft lottery - not a bad thing to win I suppose, albeit it cost us an unwatchable “tank” season. But considering they haven’t won the world’s series since I was 7, it’s nice to win something.

Bellinger is a Cub. 1 yr, $17.5M.

I’m so bored today I want to make trades just to do something.

On JV's contract option is 140ip in year 2 vests a third year. Also in the past 3,4,5,6 years, use whatever, DeGrom has pitched more innings than JV. I'm leary of DeGrom like you guys. More from his increased velo when he does come back than anything else. It seems like he is destined for TJ like SpaCity mentioned. But Father Time is tough and JV is 5.5 years older than DeGrom.

Yeah I would say JV for sure. Before his TJ surgery he was a horse and hit over 200 innings almost every year, can't say the same for deGrom. Now that he got his TJ out of the way that UCL is hopefully good for years. Plus it's only 2 years rather than 5 and $100 million less overall.

Seems like Verlander is obvious choice. Huge risk on the DeGrom deal
-
Would you feel safer with DeGrom for 5 years or Verlander for 2? The only question I have about DeGrom is at what point in the next 5 years does he have his TJ Surgery? My bet would be mid-2023. No way he gets through 5 healthy years.
-
Yeah several free agent dominos falling today. The last few years of the Turner deal might not look good but MLB TR had him for 8 yrs $268 million so if you look at it that way it comes out to be $11 million per year for those last 3, also brings down the AAV by about $6 million per year. Verlander deal definitely risky for that old of an arm but even if the worst-case scenario happens he's off the books in less than 2 years at least.

11 years, $300M for Turner - new Phillies SS.
-
2/86 for Verlander, banking a lot on a 40yr+ arm.

A little over 1/2 of his income is subject to NY state and city taxes. Top blended rate combined would be around 14%, so you got to figure at least 7%.

No state income tax there either. Up here in NY, the state taxes are so high. I wonder what a NY team would need to pay to give the player the same overall post-tax income he will earn in Texas.
-
Good park to pitch in. See if he can stay healthy. Seems unlikely this will be a good deal for the Rangers. Five years will make him 39 at then end I think
-
DeGrom is a Rangers for the next 5 years. Lower AAV than I expected but 5 years.

Major league cricket takes off in the US in 2023! It is all the fun of baseball without the damned drama and labor strife.

USA-1 - Iran-0!!! US moves on in the World Cup. That was one of the most exciting matches I have seen. Winner moves on, loser goes home. Iran was on the attack like mad in the 2nd half. Crazy game.

We didn’t want to let you down!

Nice job Baddoo and Devils. Not blockbuster material but you got something done. Turkey day badge for you guys! - that’s actually a thing if you didn’t know :)
-
Happy Thanksgiving, and Bonne Action de grâce! I’d love to see a blockbuster trade - not sure I have anything left to trade but I’m always up for ideas.
-
Ready to see a blockbuster turkey day deal!
-
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 I think some of the best deals happen on the holidays so if you get bored of football or need a little break from all the family feel free to reach out to talk trades!

Anthony Volpe is available. I assumed Yankees would start him, but they somehow signed Isaiah Kiner-Falafel to a $6M deal, and seem intent on going with him at SS. I’d rather have a boring but consistent 2023 asset than a prospect stuck on a team that won’t play prospects.
-
¡Let’s kick off the Hot Stove League! I’ll be looking to trade future value for 2023 value, so if you like cheap, young players with upside, I have quite a few to offer.
-
Yep - tonight. You still got time. Glad to hear you're still with us!
-
Ah shit I forgot that was so soon! Does that close tonight? I can still get it in if so.

Free agency officially starts at 4pm (NY time), and QO decisions are due by then. This evening should be interesting for baseball news.
-
My predictions: Dodgers sign Judge, re-sign Turner. Phillies sign Boegarts. Braves re-sign Swanson. Giants sign Correa and re-sign Rodon.
-
I’m assuming Dodgers will keep Kershaw, Astros will keep Verlander and Mets will pay whatever it takes to keep DeGrom. I can’t wait to see where Turner, Correa, Boegarts, Swanson and Judge wind up.

Edwin Diaz off the board 5yrs 103m.

The off-season should be interesting. Several Big money teams have a lot of decisions to make. Half the Mets roster are free agents. Dodgers have a ton of payroll leaving ($31M in David Price alone). Yankees should have a whole new infield and maybe outfield.
-
I watched the series, but it’s not nearly as enjoyable when it’s 2 teams I don’t have any rooting interest in (for or against). Still fun to watch the final game of 2022 baseball.

Thanks, I don't think our paths have crossed. I myself have the same team name as I had five years ago. It's going to be fun and I'm looking forward to next season!

Welcome back to Ottoneu Hank! Have we crossed paths before? I've had the same four teams and same team names for nine years now.

Hi everyone, I feel like a newbie as it's been five years since I played Ottoneu. I played for five years. It seems to be an active league when checking the message board. I think it will be very nice!
-
That is AMAZING and 100% unsurprising re. Jesse lol. Yep, I grew up in Duluth and live in Saint Paul now.
-
Also welcome to league! Baz, are you another native Minnesotan?
