I'm not going to be able to continue participating as an owner or the commissioner, unfortunately. It sounds like enough of you are interested in continuing on that I should go find a replacement for myself, though I would like to hear from more of you guys who didn't answer to make sure that we don't need to find a whole bunch of replacements all at once.
-
Dave - Just to confirm - you can't be the commissioner, or you can't continue to play at all? I think you are strongly implying the latter but I want to be sure. In any case, thank you! And I was pleasantly surprised at the $30,000 number - that is a remarkable number!
In any case, I'm definitely interested in continuing. I can't commit to helping with any administrative or commissioner duties, unfortunately.

It will be sad to lose you, Dave, but excited to hear about your news. As others have expressed, I'm in favor of keeping the league going. I am available to serve as commissioner if others are in favor and if no one else is eager to take on that role.
-
I enjoy league design (but not implementation), so I'd be happy to help come up with ideas to address this league's specific issues. I'll probably write about them too. Feel free to ping me privately to explain past problems.
-
I skimmed those when I joined the league, but I don't know why they were considered necessary in the first place. There are a number of simple fixes we could try before going with a complex alternative - like a $500 salary cap (i.e. cannot use more than $100 of loans). Mostly, I find that these issues are solved by owners learning to not make bad trades. FGpts takes time to learn.
-
The competitive balance rule conundrum is one thing I was referring to. Some of the proposed rule changes were a bit difficult for me to wrap my head around. As much as I see the need for change to keep people’s interest and promote fair and equitable trades, I’m not sure how to accomplish that without making the rules too convoluted.
-
Smarts don't really enter into it. It's more a matter of putting in the time necessary to schedule a draft and having open communications with all the owners. Also your job to herd the cats when it comes time to discuss competitive balance rules.
-
This is exciting Dave! Can’t wait to hear. I hope we can keep the league running. I don’t think I am smart enough to be the commissioner but would do it as the absolute last line of defense to keep the league going.
-
Oh, and yes, I hope it's great news Dave. I look forward to hearing more.
-
I am interested in participating still. I don't, unfortunately, have time to take on the Commissioner role.
Even though I'm mediocre (at best) at this blasted format, I thoroughly enjoy it as a hobby. Additionally, our draft day is something I eagerly anticipate annually.
-
Hopefully it's good news (I have an educated guess if is). We shouldn't have any issue finding somebody to take over that roster. I know I don't have the time to run a league, but this seems like a pretty healthy group. Even if we don't have a commissioner in the remaining 11, we can probably just recruit somebody to take the job.
-
Also, regardless of what happens, I want to honestly thank everyone for all your contributions over the last five years. That we've raised over $30,000 for cancer research or supporting patients in need has meant a lot to me, and I've really enjoyed getting to know all of you. Thanks for making this weird experiment work!
-
Depending on what everyone's interest in continuing is, I'm happy to help with any transition that is necessary, including implementing (or not) any of the suggested rules changes I put forward a few months back. I'm not just disappearing, and will help keep this league going the best I can if you guys all want to keep it going without me.
-
Hey guys, I have some news that comes with a question. I can't really get into the details for another 10 days or so (other than my cancer didn't come back, so don't worry about that), but I'm going to be unable to continue as the commissioner of this league going forward, unfortunately. I know a lot of us have put a lot of work into this, so I don't want to just shutter the league if you guys want to keep it going. So, the question: anyone want to volunteer to take over as commissioner?

I personally try to hold on to my players until the last day. While I might not be able to keep a $19 Schwarber as a Cub I would certainly entertain the thought of keeping him as a Yankee or Colorado Rockie. I see no use in cutting early.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know there are guys I might cut that others would offer on, but I value the chance (whatever it may be) to buy them back at a reduced salary, or even the same salary once I have a feel for what my needs might be at the auction. So I don’t think it’s always a mistake to cut a guy priced at or near his value.

> 90% chance that was me. #WorstGMever

I asked because there were two players cut that I totally would have traded for...
-
Speaking of: every year it feels great to cut a bunch of players. One of my favorite fantasy baseball activities. And yet, all it really does is notify the entire league of all of my terrible, terrible decisions. Enjoy bidding on a formerly $48 David Price, everybody.
-
No requirement to cut anyone. If you choose to cut, the deadline is Jan 31st.
-
Is there some kind of rule that requires us to cut players? Do we have a document with league specific rules (saw the discussion about the half seasons, but that didn't look final)
-
Uhhhhh, Bryan, until MLB teams start hiring "professional smart-ass beer drinkers" as part of the job descriotion, I assure you that you aren't alone.

Sometimes I feel like the only guy in this league who *hasn't* worked for a team.

Because I know not everybody checks trade blocks, the new guy would like to discuss swapping out around half of his roster. Go take a look.

Following the lead of Joe, I'd like to announce that Greendale Human Beings is undergoing an ownership change as well. I, John Choiniere, am ceding control to John Schmoiniere, who DEFINITELY IS NOT an analyst for the Mariners. ;)
