And I get the cutting guys salary in half tactic. Honestly I'm surprised that it's as hot a topic as it is.
-
I was just clarifying Cruz's question, not questioning laser. Laser has made a few moves that didn't make sense to me but then won the league, so what do I know?
-
You don't agree with it...that's so stupid...I feel stupid fir taking a year too figure out what he was doing, but I sure don't think there's anything wrong with it...that's like target running a 50% off sale this weekend, but you only get it if you ask...you know about it, but don't ask because you think it should be advertised to everyone...that's just dumb...don't do it then...don't use your full 1500 innings either, or feel free to handicap yourself with any other rules
-
One, it's very possible he likes Profar...I'd hold him at $4 the rest of the year if I could...the $8 is irrelevant cause no one is paying that anyway...whoever wins, assuming it's laser, and cuts him right away...so immediately is to $4...
-
Same end result....Chandler was your buddy, wasn't he Urban? So unless you brought in a guy in cahoots with laser
-
No way anyone likes Profar that much when he hasn't played in 2 seasons. Guess I'm wrong.
-
This is not the same thing as what he was doing last season by cutting players and then auctioning 30 days later (I understand that concept even though I disagree with it). This was Chandler's $8 hit. I certainly understand the concept just relaying that it doesn't make much sense at this point in time other than to help Chandler out.
-
ding ding
-
I think his point was that Chandler cut him and had an $8 salary hit, laser started the auction on him.
-
If its a guy he really wants... if not... it ties up someone elses money... its a win-win for all... we talked about this last year, and seemed like it was pretty clear to everyone... its damn good strategy, and cant argue with the guys results
-
to use for the next 30 days after he cuts him... if someone grabs and wins the auction, and cuts lose... then the effect is the same of getting his price down... doesnt cost him anything... and he can bid again in less then 30 days, if that guy cuts... worst case then, is another team ties him up, taking up too mucv of their budget...,which in essense is a win for him too by getting a competitor to tie up budget he cant use...knowing most likely they'll cut, and he'll have another crack
-
Its really not difficult...kind of surpised I have to explain this to you at this point... but he'll win Profar for $8 now, and then immediately cut him again...worst case it costs him $4 for 30 days, until he can auction again and get him down to $4, and a more reasonable price... or maybe even sneak him down to $2... once someone else jumps in, and grabs him, it alleviates any salary penalty... he loses, but doesn't cost him anyway... really nothing to lose by it, except $4 that he wont be abl
-
What I am implying is you are either a complete moron or you are helping Chandler for some unknown reason...
-
So what's the point in auctioning him? Other than cutting salary for chandler?

Is Profar even playing this season?
-
I prefer late at night as possible for a draft...like 9:00pm.. you can send invite to my PM box here
-
Draft will be next week. No date selected yet, but thinking Tuesday or Wednesday evening. I'm good with roto 5x5. Keep it simple. Anyone interested, DM me your email address and I will get invites out.
-
When is the draft?
-
thats cool with me... my "other" league is head to head... which is fine, if thats what yuo guys want to do... just seems like 5x5 roto is the classic game... even if you want to change categories, and remove W and replace with QS or whatever... your call... I think you need to send an invite tho, I dont see how I sign up from the link. PM me the invite.
-
Worth a shot, G. Let's do it. Here is the link... http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/lockstockbaseball
I changed it to 5x5 roto. That works for me. We always did H2H before, when everyone in there new each other.
Here's the scoop... We always did a one-time $50 entry for our league, and would like to keep that incentive going. Maybe 75% to the winner, and 25% to the runner up?
-
you should start a new Yahoo, re-draft, 5x5 roto league... 10 teams... lets jack it up and do it!!! I'm in... this is first year since 2002 I am not in a Yahoo, redraft league.. and kind of stinks, even tho I complained abouit it every year, and participation got less and less... I still want to draft... set it up... I'm sure we can find 5-7 more that want to do it.

Changing the subject... Just today I decided to fold up a Yahoo league I've commished for the past several years. Attrition and waning interest took its toll, and we were down to 4 interested parties in the league. Just wondering if anyone has openings in a Yahoo mixed league. While I have no interest in running a league anymore, I wouldn't mind having a landing spot for me and my friends. Looking for spots for 4 managers. Send me a message if you have something. Thanks guys.
-
Party on. Way to play nice you two.

What did I say?

I could not agree more. I made the trade wholeheartedly. I didn't know the rule, but like ATG said, I ain't no newbie, I wanted to make this deal and it would really be setting a bad peecedent
-
Plus Wieters was happy to do business with me and pushed for the deal for a couple days. Its not like he is a newbie. This could really set a bad, bad precedent for this league, Notorious is right.
-
And reading what grain says...if this guy had enough time to email and push for this deal..then he had enough time to read the rules...you don't get let off the hook for that...no way...that's crazy
-
If anyone wants their own top 25 pitching prosprct, auction Severino, Gerry him fir $1 and he happy...
-
It's not lop sided...I mean, he gave up a $3 prospect...we all make mistakes...it's not like Kingham or Glasnow, or whichever one it is will Erin the league...if we want to veto "lop sided" deals...save it for August and the salary dumps...not a $3 player...it's not worth it, and sets a real bad precedent over something that doesn't really matter anyway...
-
Plus, I wouldn't say that he "didn't know the rules", as much as forgot them or wasn't thinking it thru properly...sorry, you don't get a "get out of jail free" card for not looking at all angles before making a deal...if that's the case...we'll all have the same opportunity, next time I accept a trade and regret it...or there is injury like the lee deal...then I'm going to expect the same treatment...
-
No commish in their right mind is going to overrule on this. I really don't think not knowing the rules is grounds for vetoing a trade. I didn't know the rules last year on pitcher's innings and ended up losing the league. Did Niv give me the title instead of Laser? No.
-
Absolutely not...no veto...spending all his money in the draft is the exact reason it shouldn't be vetoed...we all have equal access to the rules, it wasn't hidden...it's pretty well known, basic fact...we can't have a commissioner over rule, or veto every time someone dues something stupid because they didn't know the rules...that's a scary precedent and very slippery slope
-
Wieters emailed me multiple times saying he wanted to dump Prado to lower his payroll. After I told him that I didn't want Prado cause he is expensive, he started offering a prospect with him to sweeten the deal. On my end he wanted Crawford or some shit, but it made no sense to give up a MI for an MI when that was what I wanted to gain. So I offered this. Its a salary dump.
-
I agree urban. I voted against it. I dont think this is so crazy that it would call for a commish over rule. In 3 seasons, not one trade has been vetoed. I dont think it would call for a veto just because a guy didnt know all the rules, but because it's a lopsided trade. Guy spent all his money in the draft. I would rather it not go through and have them both worse off

And for what it's worth, I'm not totally against giving up a player and getting nothing in return. If you feel like player X is way over priced, there is a case to be made that your team is better with the open spot, lower payroll, and other team stuck with that price burden. Not saying that's the case here, just saying it's not totally illogical.

Eh, I say fuck em

I'm not huge on vetoing trades, but considering he didn't fully understand the rule, maybe this is a good time to veto? I'm leaning towards it.
-
Think it was the first year, I gave up homer for nothing, who was at $7 at the time, because I had too much pitching...big mistake...it takes a while to get used to the rules...but between this board, and now the slack community..if not sure..ask...before giving up a top prospect for no reason at all...

The players in both those trades are not even CLOSE to comparable.
-
Thanks for answering your own obnoxious questions.
-
and also at that time it was not clear that those players would be bid on. So I would eat the salary. This gave me assurance I would have $14 and not $7.
-
Look Laser...You have WAY too much time on your hand. Do you have some sort of obsession?
-
Just for the record, I didn't know that the penalty clears once that player is put up for auction.
-
I'm not sure when all-around badass Darkest Nation Clan joined this league, but his team did the same exact thing two years ago: http://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/183/viewtrade?id=5955&pending=1
-
How do you guys even get to talking about making a trade like that? I'm legit interested
-
Is this real life?
-
You could have just cut Prado, and when someone put him up to bid, which they certainly would have... you'd been immediately cleared, v giving up a top 20 prospect just to part with a few $'s...
