Pujols got $100MM starting in his age 24 year. He produced 60 fWAR. He could have been paid $300MM and it would have been a good deal.
-
Miggy got $152MM starting at age 25. He's already put up 32 fWAR, or $160MM in value, and the Tigers have him for 2.5 more years.
-
Jeter got $189MM for 2001-2010. He was 27 when it started. He put up 46.4 fWAR, or $232MM in value.
-
A-Rod's 2001 deal for $250MM had he not opted out would have been just under 70 WAR, or $350MM in value. The first deal was great. The second, when he was old, is toxic.
-
Go look at the history of nine-figure deals. The ones to 27 and unders have all worked. The ones to 31+ers have all failed. The in-betweens have been hit and miss. $225MM to Kershaw will be a win deal.
-
Poor decision making.
-
Or pour it all into one player? I don't know if you all are noticing but the Dodgers and Angels are fucked because of doing exactly this. In a vacuum the Kershaw thing is maybe respectable but the Dodgers are fucking idiots based on all their other piss
-
Exactly! With the unlimited spending on the amateur draft and international FA markets, just pour all the money into that, rinse, repeat.
-
When there are so many other avenues like the draft and platooning through free agency I just don't understand comments like this, how could you ever think this is a bargain? I guess we will just let it pan out and see who was right.
-
I don't see how that's true at all. With what the Dodgers have already invested and then doing this much more into a pitcher (which are far less predictable than hitters) it just isn't going to work out well, much like every move they've already made.
-
ARod's first $250MM deal was a bargain.
-
ALL big deals given to 30+ players are toxic. ALL big deals given to 27-and-unders have ended team-friendly.
-
ARod and Pujols would have both been worth it if signed at 26, Kershaw's age next year.

Great Divide Titans's trade block has been updated!
-
No player is worth 225 million. I cite Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols.
-
I could start my own team and build a stadium with that much.
-
Kershaw is worth 225 mil.
-
The Dodgers are dumber an we already thought and are now going to flush 225 mil down the drain on Kershaw.
-
What'd I miss??? Been out of the game for a week almost.
-
I've never really had a problem with this. If I need to I just go to mlb.com and check.

Niv's reply: "I use probables directly from Rotowire, so if they don't have a probable for a given day then I don't present anything."
-
No clue. I emailed him. Let you know the reply.
-
Do you know where he gets that data?
-
Kershaw had no ^ at 2am this morning. Miller and Straily have no ^ for Monday. Hope Niv fixes this.
-
I had no idea that's what that symbol meant. That's the only reason I'm in 11th place.
-
I think it is relatively short notice from what I've seen but I usually see next day ^. Right now it tells me I have one or 2 guys going tomorrow.
-
Have you guys noticed that the ^ next to probable pitchers does not come up for future dates, only on day-of-game? Annoying. Was it that way last year? I feel like it wasn't, and that if you had a guy pitching 2 days from now he had the ^ on that day.

Party Like The Infield's trade block has been updated!

As a life long Cardinal fan that hates Kirk Gibson and his "gritty" bullshit, seeing Mark McGwire holding Gibson by the collar and yelling in his face was awesome.

Best part about last night's brawl was Vin calling it.

Nobody in this league ever has to play for the future. There is always enough talent floating around waivers to be competitive this year with the right choices.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxRESbF_hHs Take a deep breath. Relax. Pretend it's not happening.
-
A few thousand bucks? Is that what this league is going to cost me? I guess I have to cut back on my hookers and blow.
-
Playing for the future sucks. Spending $5 on Puig or $11 on Shelby Miller is way less + than spending $44 on Giancarlo Miguel Disabled List I'm So Pissed Right Now Stanton, aka the 2nd best OF in MIA after Marcell Ozuna.
-
throw enough darts, something is bound to stick...
-
On the other hand, I predicted to be the best and I am.
-
Yeah I remember that. 15 months ago. Who was claiming to have the best team at this years draft, yet is closer to lowly lil me than first place?
-
I drafted Devin Mesaraco for $19 last year (still)
-
Javier Baez hit four bombs for High-A Daytona tonight. Reportedly, two of them were off RA Dickey.
-
Thus ends The Sean Rodriguez Era (of scoring -1 every four days or so).
-
OFR, why you complaining? On a day he sucks Teheran is still 20 points better than a bust-ass junkballer.
-
I mean of course I start Teheran in a pitcher's park after 2 strong outings on my bench and he sucks.
-
...and if one of those teams has spent $393 in salary and one has spent $313 how does that impact your vote? I'll await your replies. Thanks.
-
Is there a demonstrable difference between two teams that in the last 30 days are only ~100 points apart? Or is that only if you're prone to extraordinary hyperbole?
-
It feels very Puignant now that the Commish has surpassed me in the standings.
