In defense of my own deal specifically, a cheap Samardzija and Odubel make my team much more competitive next year. Miggy is great, but he isn't $67 great next year. To be honest, he's not $65 great this year either, but I bid him that high knowing that my roster was not going to be in contention this year and he could net me valuable future pieces. If such trades are disallowed, it makes rebuilding efforts much slower.
-
I vote in favor of both trades that the commissioner canceled. If deals that provide long-term value for overpriced stars (and offsetting loans) aren't allowed, that should have been made clear before the draft. Because it wasn't made clear prior to the draft, it is unfair to unilaterally create an economy that is out of step with the rest of ottoneu.
-
Hey guys, look, a puppy!!!
-
Arise, you gotta chill out... I would be pissed too if I was being targeted through email bc someone gave my email out, but dont blast on here without knowing who it was... Can we just get back to legitimate baseball? Love this league, really don't want to be losing anyone at all
-
So, thank you SABRmagician, for providing my email with messages of pasty losers calling me a 'pathetic little man' this weekend because wah wah wah your fantasy baseball trade got 86ed and you don't want to be patient and gain support for it here.
-
Veto on the Cutch, Stanton deal. What were the specifics on the Miggy trade....although I don't recall it being that bad. 3 decent, cheap players for one star seems fine.

That my email inbox gets new mail @mentioning me throughout the weekend because some anonymous internet message board nerd is calling me a 'moron' with a 'jesus complex' who has 'no idea how ottoneu works' and saying I should be removed by Niv because I did something prudent is annoying.
-
WCB: maybe it's not you. Who's SABRmagician on Slack? Whoever that person is: taking your beef to Slack instead of taking your beef to the members of this league is unproductive.
-
I've nothing to do with slack either, really feel you're attacking me and if that's your mo, I'm out. I tried to move them the market was terrible, the miggy trade set an even lower price, my position was job and aj would help my team long term, gees why are you still pursuing me on this when clearly stated we move on....
-
Learned fascinated stuff on Slack today too. Like our league is a two-man race and so trades don't really matter. Like Stanton/Cutch for Joc really is balance long term in this league. Like how I'm a moron. Like how I haven't won this league so my opinion as commish doesn't matter. Really, great place Slack, no noise all signal. I'm glad I got @ed and an email notification so I could go enjoy that lovely place.
-
I'm not implying ill motive on the timing. I stopped the trade so the coincidental timing would not help such a lopsided trade fail to meet the threshold for being properly vetoed. Since Niv is not intervening and the Slack obsessives have no say in this league you are, sorry to say, stuck with an active commissioner.
-
And one more thing... If someone could start an auction and take Prince's $ off my hands that would be great, play ball! ⚾️😀
-
Finally, I do not wish to argue the trade, simply veto it, fine, call it bad, fine, imply it was in some way shady or done at a certain time to 'sneak' through, not true, I play with integrity and try to build my teams best way I see fit, so I object to that.
-
OK thanks, my point is really that your assertion is wrong that the holiday was used in some way then and just made to support your veto. Just to be clear your veto is based on feeling it hurts competitive balance of the league and are applying a % loan limit. I'm cool with that, play in a league with it, but I want that clear as I feel you imply something of the participants that is completely untrue.

WCB I'll explain Memorial Day. It's the first summer weekend here. People tend to be checked out for the weekend. There's a good chance people here are checked out. It's the perfect time to line up a bad trade that won't get vetoed.
-
You would think, and I have no problem with you not liking it and exercising your veto right. In any case I'll keep them and build with prospects in A ball, should be able to meet the 'plan better' criteria apparently required of a new person taking over a last placed team in a $$$$ league.
-
Honestly west coast, if it would have been for one of those guys, and you were getting two cheap elite young players, I don't think it would have been as much of an issue... But both of those studs and that amount of money for a loan is ridiculous... You should be able to get a deal for each of those guys individually for good Return
-
Also for the record, the Memorial Day thing makes no sense to me, I live in Australia and have no idea of your holidays, so if that was part of your thinking, it's just jumping to a conclusion.

I'm not hot headed so will live with the decision, but yep now I'll get nada for them...

I'm not hot headed so will live with the decision, but yep now I'll get nada for them...
-
I'll way I to defend, my offers for those two have been pathetic, the best way forward for me was to get a producing cheap young of and elite hitting prospect, your really handcuffing me to rebuild a bad team if deals are vetoed. Honestly have had the guys on the block and offered many attempts at deals, this is a league that doesn't sell young players full stop!
-
Agree with Long Con that everyone could take a step back from the ledge for a moment. It's still pretty early. Would love to see this league have a chance to complete the year without a full revolution/split. Hoping everyone can work out issues over one trade.
-
My job as commish is to act when I see fit to maintain a competitive and fair league. This is such a situation. Probably some Slack nerds who think their populism trumps my responsibility will agree and encourage outrage but there's no outrage that's reasonable here.
-
I'd encourage everyone to weigh in on that deal. If there are enough veto votes, it would seem the commish may have taken action that the rest of the league supports. If it's questionable, then greater debates can be rage. Hoping that there's a level of commitment to being competitive in this league, and that effort to secure talent and grow a roster is just as important as recouping cap room by multiple auctions and finding loans from noncompetitive teams.
-
I'd vote to veto the Stanton/McCutchen trade. Do think that it's reasonable to debate the intention of that move, as it's not clear it's a competitive deal for the team sending out the talent and loan.
-
i do think that rage levels are escalating a bit too much here, but I want nothing to do with assigning a new commish, this is my third year in the league now, and there have been decisions that could have been toss ups... But these couple trades that are in question right now involve a team selling off a high price elite player, for minimal return, while covering their salary... Not sure how anyone can view that in a fair and competitive way... If this is solely about real world money, sry man
-
And don't go to Slack and try to gain populism from people not in this league. I give zero shits what the lowest common denominator thinks.
-
I did what is prudent for our league. Full stop. You want the trade to go through? Get 8 other league members to agree that it's a good trade, verbally, on this board. Get 8 people to message me and say "I approve of that trade and would not veto it." Then you can have your trade. I'll expedite it so that you don't have to wait 48 hours.
-
And that it is Memorial Day weekend and people are at lakes and vacation homes and BBQs and shit and that they're maybe not on here for a weekend and are not reading nerd message boards on a Saturday to cry about why their dumbass lopsided trade got halted and they didn't get to slide it through on Memorial Day?
-
You understand that with the veto threshold in Otto as high as it is that if like 2/12 owners are not checked in this weekend the trade will go through? And that it's a ridiculous, foolish, lopsided, idiotic trade, and that if those 2/12 come back on Tuesday and go "heeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" then what I've done is probably prudent?
-
Sure, I understand all of that. I am simply saying there is over $1000 in this league, and one person should not be making all the decisions. Whether we change commissioners or get a refund, this is not proper management of our money, and something needs to be done.
-
You're new here and I've run this league since inception. I've made decisions before that have been unpopular with a couple people and the league has been just fine for it. You're not removing me, Niv's not removing me, and I don't care what an anonymous internet message board of nerds thinks full stop.
-
I posted our issue to Slack and that's what other owners did when they came across situations like this. Because this is a prize league, I think it would be best to have a more objective decision maker in charge of league matters.
-
I think you're probably wrong.
-
We are going to go ahead and get Niv involved in this one. I think we may be able to vote on a new commissioner if you guys are interested.
-
I was not even about to let that sit over Memorial Day weekend and not get the proper amount of veto votes to stop that foolishness from happening.
-
Or: this kind of trade on a Tuesday in mid-August, near the deadline with a bit over a month to play, is maybe a different thing than gifting someone an elite player and a more than 25% bump over the salary cap in, again, fucking MAY for crissakes.
-
The salary cap is $400. I get when trades push it up to $440 or so late in the season. But dumping $100 in salary to another team in fucking MAY--and over Memorial Day weekend when I'd assume you think people are not working--is not happening in this league. So if y'all want to leave and no one wants to join the league, great, we'll shut it down. But we won't have that kind of bullshit trade.
-
Is that autocratic? Sure. But it's better than demagoguery.
-
I'm not going to tell anyone the right way to win. But I'm going to act swiftly and firmly in these nonsense situations and I'm not really going to worry about building consensus or doing what's popular.
-
A $102 loan is bullshit. Anyone who thinks it's ok to trade for Miggy + Miggy's salary + another $40 just because the league software makes it ok is not someone I want to be in a league with. That's not competitive, or playing up to a challenge, it's just "hey, I found someone who would gift me a spot in the top 3."
-
I agree with BI 720. These decisions are not the commissioner's to make. You don't get to tell me the "right way" to win a league
-
I'm going to ask Niv to leave the league today, full refund. There is a process to veto trades. Having the chance to win this year is not worth dealing with the autocratic jackass that runs it.

Thanks commish, I do believe that is a good call... I have been making moves and trying to make trades all season, and when I saw those trades today, it kinda made my heart sink watching a team load up bc of loans when I've been putting tons of time and effort into building my team... I love your integrity and thank you for your true commitment to this league
-
Please understand that regardless of situation and without consensus building I will 86 any trades like that because freaking seriously you guys that's not how you win the league. If you need to get a $102 loan and Miggy Cabrera in a trade to get out of mid-table, draft better. Plan better.
-
This league isn't going to be determined by the first person to find a person willing to increase their salary cap by 10-25% in a single trade.
-
As commish I'm stepping in and 86ing the trade with a $102 loan changing hands and the trade with a $51 loan changing hands. Anyone who thinks this is unfair should leave the league next year.
