Bust rates being what they are, I think you're best not arbing minor leaguers anyway, in terms of making the dollars stick to impactful players. Hit teams where it hurts, on guys who have shown themselves to be cheap MLB assets. If we have a rule forcing everyone to do so, it should only enhance competition.
-
I've seen Minor Leaguers increase by $6-$8 in a single year. I had Brendan Rodgers last year and there were definitely multiple teams assigning $1-$2 raises for a guy that had never seen AAA (he went from a $4 auction + $1 increase + $6 Arb increase = $11 in one year). I think that's the concern. IMO, it's a debate about whether we're playing a "baseball centric" game that mirrors some MLB strategies vs. a Cap Strategy game that allows all fair rules to used/exploited.

So we are only changing guys with no mlb experience correct? Everyone else is fair game for arb increases?

By my count half of the league is in favor of the no arb. to MiLB players, but fwiw I'm opposed. I'm sorry to belabor the point, but has this issue ever created a problem before or are we fixing a problem that doesn't exist?
-
3. Bob Loblaw's Law Blog must win.
-
2. All teams must pay for the following season by 10 days after the World Series and usually any new owner in mid-season must pay for the following season upon joining.
-
1. No arb assigned to players with no MLB experience. (Teams: if someone assigns your MiLB guys money let me know and I'll adjust)
-
Seems we have a pretty big majority in favor of the arb change, so let's go with it. For you new guys we have three rules different aside from the norms of Ottoneu:
-
Agreed, Cy. And not that it's Bob Loblaw's fault, but he finished in first and probably has the most players that would benefit from these rules. Why create rules that allow the rich to stay rich?
-
1. Does anyone have any thoughts about how this Arb approach will negatively impact inflation in the league overall? By keeping some prospect prices very low, certainly that adds to league-wide inflation. 2. I need to take a look at the other rosters here, but this idea does put the new teams at a (larger?) disadvantage in the short term. As an example, my team and Great Div had between almost zero players who could be positively impacted by this.
-
Hey gang, I just claimed the abandoned team. Great Divide Titans will now be known as the Dodgeville Knights. Glad to be here.
-
No Arb for players that receive a $1 increase (have not had ML service time) is my vote. I really like what Arise is saying and think there should be a better spirit to protect 1st year players, but think it would be hard to implement. And to Beach Bums... I think there's definitely a competitive angle to trying to assign Arb $, but still hold the opinion that trying to pry Minor Leaguers loose is something that could wait until they've seen a ML AB or IP.
-
So what is the Arb rule if any? Can't use Arb dollars on any player not called up?

Missed that. Will mark as abandoned now. Thanks.

Is Great Divide still with us?......back on 10/9 he sent a message to abandon his team

Please let us know if we need any more new owners. My brother is interested.

I'm in the camp to keep it simple...no arb would apply only to guys that received the $1 increase. Seems easy enough to track.

For what it's worth, I vote against any arbitration restrictions. Prospects that might deserve arbitration dollars aren't limited to rebuilding teams. Also, enforcement would be difficult.
-
So have we reached a consensus here? Anyone with less than 1 year MLB service? Only players who have zero MLB experience? A set # of PAs or IP?
-
Hello all - I recently claimed Copales Charros. Looking forward to a great year and meeting all of you. I support the suggestions on minor league arb rules. I second the keep it simple idea.
-
I am all for no arb for MiLB guys who have never been called up, and I also like the idea of a max arbitration increase on guys with some mlb experience, but I think that should only apply to actual mlb rookie eligible players... so if they have enough service time that the MLB doesn’t consider them rookies, then we shouldn’t protect those players with a minimum arbitration eother

I like what I'm reading about this prospect discussion. My primary point of emphasis in that would be to try to keep it simple. I commished a long term league that had way too many provisions about keeping minors players and it really got out of hand and hard to manage. That being said, if the system can handle our specifics, that reduces most of the headaches.
-
I stumped hard for this in our first season--as a player with more prospects than MLBers on my roster--and still stump for this as someone with no prospects. I'd like our system to mirror MLB as much as possible so that teams who take those risks on prospects can see some reward at the end without players like that going through the roof. I drafted O. Taveras for $1 and he was in the $teens before he died with 250 career PA.
-
I'm ok with a "anyone without an MLB appearance cannot draw arb" rule. I'd also support something deeper like "no one with less than 1000 career PA or 300 IP can have more than $1 added." The nature of prospecting carries risk but should also carry reward. You effectively have a dead roster spot/dead money for a while. Get a kid for $1 when he's in high-A and probably he's $3 when he makes a late-season debut and then $5 the next year. But he can be $15 if that late-season de

Hey y'all, I've just claimed Sirrus Ballers. Looks like there is some discussion about minors arbitration rules. Anything else special I need to know about this league format?
-
I'm on board w/ Nuke. Barring any objections we'll just move forward w/ a gentlemen's agreement.
-
Agree with Margot. Anyone who receives $1 in regular salary increase should be protected
-
I haven't heard anyone that wants to push for minor league arbitration increases. I'd suggest that if no one registers an objection, it should become a rule (even if we don't hear from all teams). My 2 cents...
-
Anyone who received a $1 increase is the easiest way in my opinion. Meaning they've never appeared in an MLB game. Or we could agree on minimums for September call-ups. Like 100 PA or 50 IP. Just arbitrary numbers to start the discussion. But cut and dry with no grey area would be no MLB appearances.
-
How do you define "minor leaguer" in this case?
-
Seeing as Arb starts on Sunday I think we need a majority (preferably unanimous) vote... Your thoughts Mr. Commish?
-
I agree on the no arb increase for minor leaguers

Friendly reminder that we do have a league rule about renewals for the next year. Due 10 days after end of World Series to ensure all are invested in the off season

I pushed for this the first couple years and am happy to revisit.

I’ve always been a proponent of no arb to minor leaguers
-
May or may not be the best time to discuss, but were there any opinions on having an informal rule against adding arbitration dollars to minor leaguers? They have already passed through an auction and seems like it's a strategy that allows for rebuilding to be more difficult. Think it's worth a discussion...
