To ensure the machado trade was fair, we outsourced the trade specifications to a group of 4 others on slack not associated with this league.

btw, Nathan Jones at $1...why did I not bid $2?!? That's a possibly premier closer next year at $3. Nice get.

Trade deadline general info, from last year but mostly still relevant.
http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/ottoneu-trade-deadline-all-questions-answered/
Also note that the deadline for a deal agreed to by both sides is 8/31, so the deal will go through on 9/2 in that case. It's not that the deal has to have gone all the way through by the 31st (in which case the "real" deadline would be 8/29). So you have to the end of the day on Thursday to reach agreement on possible deals.
-
pfft... I should have done this a month ago. I will warn you now, if you don't do your arbitration in October, we will "revisit" team ownership - since arbitration maintains competitive balance.

I have no problem with the trade FWIW. I do understand how the "free" drops could be a surprise to the contending owners, though. I agree that he most prudent course of action at this point is to revisit this in the offseason. I'll also second the above note commending that ownership is being monitored, and it's a good thing to have a new owner!
-
Overall I don't think the outcome of the league will be decided by recent events. I appreciate Kiwis being an active commish and having managers that are invested in their team's is best for the league, but I agree that rules can be added for the future. Good luck in the last stretch of the season. My minnow squad doesn't appear to have enough juice to hold off the big guns.

This being my second season in Otto , there are undoubtedly lots of nuances I don't know about, and judging by North's comments this is an unusual situation. I'm not trying to pin blame on anyone for this situation. But it looks like we can set some rules in place for future seasons. And it's not necessarily the trades, but also the cuts that bring players value down to a $1 that are unusual at this point in the season.

And again, I'd like to add, that a completely unbiased group of people on Slack talked about the trade and the voting essentially came out even as to which side they preferred...that *rarely* happens on Slack where people think things are that even.
-
I guess I don't get how what I'm doing (I've made one trade) is different than what any other owner in my position in the standings would, whether they were new or not. If not in it, you try to accumulate assets for the future. As for the impact of the deal, he traded a guy on the 60 Day DL for Shark, Moncada who hasn't played well at all and is on the 10 Day DL, and Adames who isn't in the majors. Adding Shark doesn't impact things *that* much...
-
But wait, there's more!! Last sentence, I'm glad this isn't a big $$ league or all this would be worse. Carry on.
-
But let me clear that I was totally on board with the search for the new owner & he wasn't trying to do anything except do a good job at being the commish, something he is better at than I am. He is not in the race to win it this year & was clearly not trying to do anything wrong. I think we just didn't anticipate the impact it would have, & so I apologize for that. We'll learn from it. Hopefully we can have FUN regardless since that's what this is for? : - ) I'm glad thi
-
I don't think we've had this happen before, in terms of a new owner being so active right at the trade deadline, in combination with a very tight 4-way race. Most years the winner is almost a foregone conclusion by now. But I agree it would be lame if this tilted the outcome in a new direction. Maybe we could institute set dates for new owners to come in. Like all star break and the end of season. And conditions. Like if you go 40 days without logging into your team, or whatever.
-
In terms of the timing, the search for a new owner was initiated by my co-commish the kiwis. He wasn't trying to alter the race or anything crazy. He was just doing a check of owner activity, and basically everyone was checking their team on a regular basis except for the old owner who hadn't logged in since May. He messaged me he would look for a new owner and I said go for it. I was happy that he was actively "commishing."
-
Yes, it is customary for a new owner to get a round of penalty free cuts. But this means that all of those guys are available at $1, which I agree is a little nuts. I thought it was a little odd that bidding on Chris Davis went to $15 and Hanley only $2 when they aren't *that* different in terms of expected production.
-
When I dropped him he was a "free" drop, which dropped him back down to $1
-
Aside from all of this....... any reason why Hanley was just picked up for $2? Shouldn't it have been at least $11? Am I missing something?

My issue is not with 2019 as an owner, its more of an issue with the timing and the fact that the other managers in the league were not consulted before the decision was made to add a new owner. Everyone is going to value players differently so I vetoed the trade because I value the players differently and didn't agree with the timing. In the future I hope that any manager changes during the season will be a decision made by the league.

I mean I can bow out of all trade talks until after the deadline if that makes everyone happy here. Still not sure why Mookie had an issue with the trade, nor why 4 people voted to veto it...but if I'm causing too much ruckus I'll hold off for a few days and not make any moves
-
This is a few days late but here are my two cents about the recent trade. Why was a new manager brought into the league a week before the trade deadline without consulting with the other managers in the league?

cool. Thanks for not minding the dialogue Champs. We all have different opinions which is what makes trades possible in the first place.
-
But I just wanted to defend myself there...it actually seems like a pretty even deal, even when Slack looked at it I think the comments and voting came out pretty even. And I don't consider Trea Turner to be a merely average player.
-
Sorry I'm just now seeing this to respond. I can 100% say I don't know who the other owner is, no collusion. As for the trade, I feel like won it. I don't like Moncada at $13 ($3 less than Turner btw), don't trust Shark and at $14 I'm okay dealing him, and I'm not high on Adames. Don't think there is a chance Moncada is worth $15 next season. I'm sorry if I've come in and upset a balance, just seemed like an obvious move to build a team when wouldn't keep the guys I dealt other than maybe Shark
-
7 vetoes would be necessary (unless it's a commish-veto). I am 100% certain that Jonathan & Adam do not know each other, so I can happily rule out collusion.
I think that one side got the better end of the deal, but my anti-giants bias dislikes shark and really likes trea, so I do see the deal as closer than you do.

I certainly don't feel like there was any collusion or anything like that going on. I'm probably higher on Samardzija and lower on Turner than the average owner. As usual, the trade will go through unless at least 7 owners click on the "veto" button (Kiwis, is that number correct?).
-
Mookie, I kind of felt the same way. In some leagues, there is a lot of public chatter and people give their views on a lot of the trades. This league is more reserved. There are 100 different ways to build a great team, but I was scratching my head over the prospects going "the wrong way" in that deal. I also felt like if that offer had been shopped around he could have gotten more. But maybe I'm wrong. Moncada is at $13 which is expensive. We all evaluate players differently.
-
I'm obviously biased, but I think you are selling Trea Turner short. He's been a 6 P/G SS this season despite a dreadful start. He's currently on rehab assignment, and even if he wasn't, 2019 is clearly playing for next year anyways. Just my 2 cents.
-
I also think that it's odd that we added a new owner at this point in the season. I am glad that Jonathan is on board, and like having active owners, but adding someone with a month to go in what has already been noted is a pretty tight race seems to have the ability to throw off the competitive balance for the remainder of this season. The new owner is going to want to do new-owner type things (release players, make a lot of trades, etc.) that seem like the could create a lot of chaos.
-
I do not normally do this, but I have to post an objection to what looks like a pretty lopsided trade. The trade between Trea Huggers and 2019 Champs does not really seem fair/justifiable. Trea Huggers receives a solid starting pitcher, two of baseball america's top 13 prospects (including the number 1 prospect in baseball), and money. 2019 Champs receives one average to above-average player who is still on the 60-day DL.
-
I have someone offering me a solid #3 type of starting pitcher for Edwin Diaz. I'm not sure I will move him, but if there is any other interest out there, let me know by offer or message. I'm looking for starting pitching.

If you haven't used the ottoneu standings dashboard tool, then you are missing a chance to add some serious nerd cred to your fantasy baseball resume. It breaks down the league in detail and gives end of season projections. (it has been predicting a victory for Kluber Lang, but recently switched to Trea Huggers by 36 points over Kluber Lang) Here is a link to an article: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-ottoneu-standings-dashboard/
