My son just turned two, but he has always loved sports. Last year, while the Seahawks made their Super Bowl winning run, we taught him to signal touchdown and first down, and to get excited about football.

Brainiacs log: at my half-way point goal of 9500 pts a little ahead of schedule, hopefully I can build a little on the batting side to maintain the lead when I hit the innings cap in September.

Coincidentally, picking up those guys would save Rotor a couple bucks. I think they're better off as FAs.

Interesting. If you drop a player who costs more than $1 in cap, wait 30 days, add and drop him again, his cap cost is halved. Something for those of you working with little cap to think about.

Looking for a decent OF for a guy like Chris Johnson or Matt Dominguez. Make me an offer.

Brainiacs log - supplemental: injuries are taking a toll, my strategy of drafting bats is almost completely undermined as draft-day acquisitions Zimmerman and Zobrist are both on the DL.

Brainiacs log: replacing some bench depth with prospects to build up my farm system. Four or five is probably enough, along with some potential break-out active pitchers.

But for my team, that's been scraping by at the edge of the cap limit from opening day, I can't afford to give up any cap. In fact, if you include a generous cap loan in an offer to me I will be much more receptive.

I think he could then drop the expensive player and still have the extra cap loan. I think it might be beneficial if you have lots of extra cap to give away, you might end up with a more balanced or future advantaged team in exchange for cap you won't use

Sorry about the double post. What do you guys think about trading away cap as a loan with an expensive player to balance the trade? I don't think it's a good strategy. You end up subsidizing the other guy's team with precious cap.

Brainiacs log: finally getting some traction in the efficiency averages (pts/game, pts/IP.) It's slightly annoying to have to export the stats to calculate these. Would it have killed the game designers to include them in the players dashboard view?

I will add that I think I went a little overboard this season with my RP valuations, as Rotor is correct that a good RP performance is not very scarce.

I am obviously biased as I own Kimbrel/Jansen/Chapman for a combined $58, but it absolutely has to do with Pts/IP for the reasons Nate mentioned.

I say usually a lot.

Not only that, but closers (at least the top ones) are usually pretty consistent from year to year (usually). I'm usually with you but if you can find a top closer for a good price, he's usually going to be more valuable than a setup reliever.

Points/IP. Since there is a cap and in every league I've been in the best teams always hit the max innings it is important to get innings at a high Pts/IP ratio. If you look at the top 20 last year they are all closers or high leverage releivers
-
I was just wondering why people were willing to pay a high percentage of cap for a Closer when they don't seem much more valuable than rep lvl RPs in this league. Is it force of habit? What do you think?
RICOhtani on
April 28, 2014 2:26 PM

I looked at multiple seasons and tried to get an idea of the best case scenario for an elite Closer - 800 is probably generous, but the fewer points the best Closer makes, the less valuable they are relative to alternate RPs.
