Taking a look at my Standings Dashboard tool this morning (found on Slack if you aren't already there!), it looks like the favorites right now are man 'o WAR, Theo, Mudball, Rotor, Chalupa, Hillbilly. All six teams are very close, and all project between 17,200 pts and 17,500 pts.

Brainiacs Log: Nearly 1/3 into the season and Rotor City is leading the pack in total points and extending our lead. However -- I am still lagging behind the league leaders in Average Points per Game/IP, that's something I'll try to correct with more selective player use -- taking into account L/R splits, match-up strength and more aggressive use of Relief Pitching (instead of Starters.) Weakest positions have been those I paid a premium to cover -- SS and Catcher, surpluses are in CI.

Just as a quick heads up, I'm open to moving Jordan Zimmermann in the right deal. Primarily looking to upgrade my offense (MI, OF, C), but will listen to anything. Let me know if you're looking for a SP upgrade.

One final note -- Mudball Blasters only has two RPs, so his starter total could increase by perhaps 900 to 1200 points (losing potentially a much smaller amount of bench points) by completing his roster, which could increase his rank from 9th to 3rd.

I updated my spreadsheet to account for moves and trades since the draft, and tweak my methodology. Originally I counted each team's six best starters plus five relievers (which should add up to about 1500 IP, (6)*200 IP for the SP, (5)*60 IP for the RP.) But I reconsidered and decided that it's better to count the top 5 SP instead of 6, and increase the bench points from 1/3rd to 1/2.

No offense taken, the level of detail in your system is great. it's really cool. Mostly making a joke about my observations.
-
@Panik - the hitting looks great but Steamer isn't kind to your pitching, after Hamels and Samardzija it looks like you are taking chances on upside. You also don't yet have a complete bullpen -- plenty of time to fix that. Pitching is easier to fix than hitting (if your current strategy doesn't work out) and there are still plenty of useful-projected pitchers in FA. Plus you have four empty spots to add players. Also no offense was intended -- you have a fantastic set of hitters, for sure.

either my valuation system is way off, or I guess i am just screwed.

I haven't looked at the numbers yet, but there were enough values at auction that I am not confident at all that I hold onto the #1 spot I had pre-auction.

My analysis says that man 'o WAR has the league's strongest team after the draft. Starter points are 16086, deployable bench points are 2297, for a total of 18383. This is a team set up to win now without many prospects and the only glaring weakness is at Catcher (maybe Third Base - Tomas could be a break-out star at that position.) It helps that his bullpen is packed full of Closers who are projected to earn Saves.

That's reasonably close to a historical winning teams total of about 19000 points. There are obviously a ton of problems with my methodology, so please approach this analysis with a reasonable amount of skepticism. I hope that by being transparent about my technique you can judge it for yourself and take it with a grain of salt and in the spirit of "fun" that was my intention. The future is not set.
