The Usual Suspects's trade block has been updated!
-
Thanks for sharing that Rotor! That was a ton of fun to read, and it's always interesting to hear others' perspective. I do like my team this year, but also think there are a lot of teams that could easily contend this year. Should be a fun season!
-
12. Hillbilly WAR Machine - after winning the championship in 2015, HWM is clearly in re-building mode.

11. The Usual Suspects - it looks like TUS intends to compete this season - the team has lots of expensive star players - but I don't see enough production as is to contend. Maybe the plan is to trade away stars plus cap to re-build for next year?

10. California Aces - has so many spots to fill, it's hard to visualize what this team will look like when this is done. But I don't see many real game-changing options in FA, I think once it's completed the team's fatal flaw will be pitching. Excellent hitting, but no depth at all and the pitching will take a major effort to fix.

9. man 'o WAR - similar to the two above but with less bench depth, actually depth looks like it might be a weakness with this squad. That is something that may be address in FA, so the team should not be ruled out as a contender.

8. Machado About Nothing - The numbers look very similar to BOHICA's, above, but BOHICA's starting pitching looks slightly better. In the same position as BOHICA -- could contend for the championship with a little luck.

7. BOHICA - BOHICA's precessor sold the future for a second-place finish in 2015. The new owner has done a good job re-building out from under the cap burden, and might be competitive this season with a little luck. The hitting is average, the pitching above average and the bench depth is solid.

6. Panik at the Frisco - right in the middle of the team ranking, this features strong starters but has weak bench depth. (The pitching depth is better than hitting depth.)

5. Spoover - one of the league's best hitting teams, and has the deepest hitting bench. Very light on pitching, currently rolling with only four RPs and not much depth. I think that should be correctable - easier to fix than weak hitting and bumped Spoover's team up a couple of spots in my ranking.

4. The Barsi Boys - Very exciting to see a fully operational TBB squad after a couple of years spent re-building. Pitching is Barsi's strength, but the bats look solid - right in the middle of teams by bat strength with lots of useful bench depth.

3. Mudball Blasters - looks shaky right now because this team has no bullpen, but that will be easily fixed before the start of the season. The strength of the team is hitting, the pitching features lots of upside gambles which may or may not pay off.)

2. Rotor City Brainiacs - it may not be my year yet again but if I can place 2nd instead of 3rd that will be progress. My team has excellent pitching and excellent bench depth, but the starting hitting is right in the middle of the pack.

1. Chalupa Batman - after taking a year of, Chalupa is again in a strong position to win it all. He has the best overall starting position players and pitchers, and good useful bench depth as well.

Then I made some adjustments based on current team status. For instance, Mudball Blasters does not have a bullpen yet, but that should be something he can build with FA. In general depth is less important then star power because depth can be built but stars have value that can't be found in FA. All of this adds up the a list, a ranking from the team that looks best to the team that looks worst. Here is the list:

I look at the remaining players -- bench depth and prospects -- and sort them by those categories. Bench depth is added up and multiplied by .333 to guess at that part of the roster's contribution. True prospects (not on a depth chart, unlikely to be called up at any point this season) are ignored. All this work yields a number that is fairly close to seasonal league scoring for each team (top teams are at about 20,000 points.)

Hi Cooperstown. Through last year, BOHICA's predecessor Theo would join me in posting post-draft team rankings, but Theo is gone so I might be the only one this year. This year, I plugged all the teams into my projection and created a starting roster for everyone based on a combination of projected points, depth chart and position eligibility. The top 12 postion players, top 5 starting ptichers and top 5 relief pitchers form each team's core, and the contribute 2/3rds of points to my calculation

Less than 24 hours until the draft........

I'll let anyone back into the draft as soon as I can, but it's on you if you miss a bid or a nomination.

Are we following the new rule regarding if you fail to make a player nomination, then you are finished with the draft?
-
Less than 48 hours until the draft.
-
So for the draft, are we sticking by the new rule or will the commissioner fix it so we can get back in to the draft?
-
ouch!
-
Solid advice - thanks for the heads up, Panik.

This is just an FYI and some of you may already be aware. I am in another league and we had our draft this past weekend. There is a rule change whereby if you miss a nomination your draft is automatically marked as "done" which means no more nominations or bids. There is a mechanism for the commissioner to allow you back in, but according to the rules your draft is over at that point. My other league was not aware and the commish did not know how to fix it so we had a bit of a disaster
