Don't blame it on the 'roids. There are several other reasons for the increase. Juiced balls, players changing their approach and even the hot summer last year could have led the "rise of the homerun"
-
You know there is an article out on the internet talking about there are more home runs being hit now than during the steroid era. More suspensions may happen during the rest of the year. Hold on tight!

Starling Marte is on my block. If you take the chance on him, you might get a nice OF option in late July, August and September. Not too shabby! There are only a couple prospects I'm interested in, so I'd mostly want active MLB players in return. Please keep that in mind when structuring deals. :)

totally sucks. I mean, probably more for Starling Marte than me, but at least Marte is already a millionaire. I think you should feel sorry for me the appropriate amount, guys.

That's funny. I'm glad we don't have something similar - it would have been painful to read the comments about my catchers literally starting off the season 0-41.

In one of my other leagues, the league's Bot Journalist pointed out how stupid I am in the weekly notes: "Emerald City Lumberjacks had some issues in the home runs category this week. They had the 3rd worst performance in the HRs category this week partly because the Coach left Ender Inciarte and his 4 HRs on the bench. Inciarte's performance was better than every other bench-rider in the league. Emerald City Lumberjacks fell from 2nd to 6th in the HRs standings." So that's a nice feat

Hey Rotor - I'm having the same problem. Benched Ramirez yesterday and he scores 39 pts. With Mancini on the bench he scores 31 pts. uggh

Outsmarted myself today, pulling stalwart righty Starling Marte out of the lineup vs RHP Ace Jake Arrieta, and he hits a HR - which hurts me in the P stats since I am starting Arrieta. Should have hedged. Can't get the hang of maximizing match-up advantage.

Last year was the first season I put a lot of effort into managing G and IP cap (and managed to not blow past my limits 2 - 4 weeks before the end of the season.) And it... didn't work at all. I finished worse going "all in" on expensive studs and managing caps than I had the previous two seasons when I didn't know what I was doing. So there's something to be said for dumb luck in this game. Here's hoping you have your share of it. :)

So OF will be the focus of any trade offers I entertain. Well, OF and SS, since depending on Tulowitzki and A-Cab at SS seems like a bad strategy, right? And I'm mostly interested in trading away 1B to get players at OF and SS. I'll probably try to bolster SP through FA acquisitions, and at some point convert the weaker SP into RP to improve efficiency (once I'm pretty sure I'll hit the IP ceiling.)

Of course that's the challenge of the league. That's what makes it a game. Mostly I need to get more depth at OF - otherwise I'll come up way under the G cap in those spots. Dropping Choo was painful - I'd hoped to get Avisail Garcia to replace him. He projects well, but every year there are players with solid projections who come up short, and Choo seems like a player who might do that this year. (Age, and loss of physical tools, and much of his proj is based on SB production.)

Disappointed in myself for clinging to players I should not have going into the draft (my so-called "farm system") and getting off to a weak start. It took me several days to clean house once I realized I was being a bonehead about it (certainly not a Brainiac.) Now that is tidied up, and the space cleared let me re-tool with some players that are off to respectable starts. The hard part will be playing the right guys at the right time, and figuring out how to maximize potential G and

I'm looking to add a front line type OF to replace JD Martinez. I'm willing to move Amed Rosario, Conforto, and several others. Urias is available in the right deal.
-
Also, I have to tip my cap to Chalupa for the roster he's built. Chalupa has built a team that projects at or near the top for the second straight year yet still has $53 left.
-
Thanks Rotor and Braves for doing these projections, very fun read. Looking forward to what looks like a competitive season.

Nice analysis, Braves - thanks for taking the time. :)

Thanks for all the work you both put into this. And according to the analysis, I looking to trade for some hitters! ;-)
-
Ha - the prognosticators have spoken! I don't think we need to play the season now - I'll just take the trophy! In all seriousness, these messages make me feel better after crapping the bed at the auction and leaving myself pretty thin. Should be a fun season with a lot of teams having a legit shot. Good luck to all (yes, even you Panik!).
-
This is definitely the only league I am in that has such thorough pre-season projections. Thanks for all the work guys and best of luck to everyone, except you Chalupa.
-
Overall, I find parity is indeed high. There is not much separating the top 6-7 teams which should make for a wide open and competitive race this year. Good luck!
-
Finally, the Usual Suspects checks in with hitting outstripping his pitching. Lacking many true stars, he has some depth and a relief core that could be sneaky good.
-
In the next tier I have California and Mudball followed by the Usual Suspects. California has Trout and a number of young break out guys and prospects to add talent whenever he chooses, but my projections have him light on pitching at this point. Mudball is also looking for pitching depth, a common thing in SABR leagues, but he has Thor and several of the top hitting prospects in baseball to make a run.
-
No Hitters has made a valiant effort to rebuild in one draft and did quite well. I too have his hitting above his pitching, and if he is able to hit on some pitching behind his solid frontline, he could easily move up.
-
I am higher on Hillbilly after his rebuild, and he ends up in the next tier with Barsi and No Hitters. What Hillbilly lacks in stars, he makes up for in depth and breakout candidates. If only a few of them pop, he has the resources to land some players mid season to make a push. Barsi has a great MI duo but was hurt in the OF with Desmond's injury. However, Kershaw, Jansen, and Chapman are still there to lead the pitching staff.
-
Bohica is lightest on pitching, but he has a very strong relief core to prop up his P/IP to give him time to find IP on the waiver wire, and he also has a great core of elite hitting to rely on.
-
The next tier is close to the first, but there was enough of a break to separate: Panik, Rotor, and Bohica. Panik hasa plethora of RP but lacks depth at SP. SPs are normally available throughout the year, and he is sure to move up as he adds IP. Rotor has few stars, but he has depth in solid second tier options that should help him weather injuries.
-
I am posting mine in tiers as it more closely approximates the variance in estimating bench contributions and the like. The first tier came out with Chalupa, Machado, and my own Braves. Chalupa leads the way with star power in hitting, and Braves has the edge in pitching. However, as Rotor noted, Machado is full of depth and has few if any glaring weaknesses. Chalupa's empty roster spots might loom large here depending upon who is added.
-
I have finished the first iteration of my projections and figured I'd go ahead and post them since Rotor just got finished. Mine are a little different from Rotor's, but I think they're fairly similar overall. For review, here were Rotor's:
Chalupa
Panik
Machado
Braves
Bohica
Rotor City
No HItters
Barsi
Mudball
Hillbilly
Cali Aces
Usual Suspects

That trade California was between me and TUS. We did it in the offseason except he came back and said he wanted to keep Bauer but would waive the 5 dollars if he could keep Bauer and send me back Matt Moore

What is happening with the trade that Rotor made with TUS. where Rotor trades back Boegarts and Dietrich to TUS. Then TUS gets Davis or Bauer. Plus Rotor loans TUS $5 or something like this
-
Braves had no predecessor... That was me. I just changed names. And rotor was right on my team last year. Mid pack until I sold everything in June.
-
Good question. I got Chalupa right - #1. I calculated Panik would be #6. BOHICA #7. Machado #8. Rotor (myself) #2. Barsi # 4. No Hitter's predecessor # 9. Mudball # 3. California #10. TUS # 11. Braves predecessor # 5 (before the mid-season sale of Mike Trout and others.) And correctly guessed that rebuilding Hillbilly would place #12. So big misses on myself and Mudball, little misses on Barsi, BOHICA and Machado, and I didn't anticipate Panik would be so dominant.

Thanks Rotor! I love to see these at the beginning and the mid-point of the season. I really hope that all that depth I've accumulated really pays off (though it'll be a lot of work to really maximize it).
