Trades like this throw off the value and intent of the offseason salary allocation process. One team can effectively shield players from additional salary allocation by trading them temporarily to another team.

I just think that lending players is a slippery slope. After the first 3 spots in the standings, there isn't really much incentive. So if someone doesn't care whether they finish, say, 4th or 7th, you could justify lending players for pretty much nothing. Just to use your deal as a framework for an example, BOHICA could have loaned all of those players for just a guy like Justin Bour. At the end of the season, he gets all his loaned players back and now also has Bour...
-
From my perspective, it's more the theory behind the deal rather than the deal itself. As long as both parties are simply trying to better their teams (for the present or the future), I'm good with deals. And I don't think we have anyone in this league that would collude. I honestly don't think either of you need to justify the value changing hands here, and I hope I didn't imply that was the case...
-
And we do know each other in real life, so we will uphold. We have been competing with each other in everything possible for ten years.
-
While I am obviously the contender benefiting here short term, I understand Chalupa's point. We did get to this deal based upon last year's loan deal being approved. I think it is something that probably should be discussed in the offseason. While I believe I am giving up significant value for a month of production, I agree this could open us up to abusive deals going forward. And if the league wants to veto this one, that's why we have the system in place.
-
My thought with this type of trade is that the person who is "renting" must be giving up something of real value. Braves is getting Votto, Kimbrel and Cruz for a month which is valuable but probably somewhat negligible of an upgrade for the timeframe he's renting while potentially giving up 3 solid MLB players and a top 50 prospect. I definitely understand if this is a topic to discuss in the offseason.

I understand I might be in the minority there though. And like I said, I feel like this is more of an offseason topic. Given that last year's loan deal went though, I feel like this one should be approved too.
-
I think those two are real life buddies, so I'm sure they'll each hold up their end.
As far as the deal, last year gave us a precedent for these type of loan deals. So I will vote to approve. That said, I think it might be worth further discussion in the offseason. While I understand it, the player loaning just seems/feels strange to me. I feel like we may have opened Pandora's box, and it could lead towards more and more skewed loans/trades.
-
A note on that trade: as commish, I have no way to enforce rental agreements like that. So if something goes sideways, it is what it is.

Bryce Harper is available in the right deal.

Conforto & Bour & Sano are all available for immediate upgrades. I don't care about keeper value. Preferable but not necessary.

... their peripherals for players who are highly projected, but under-performing. It's just a different criteria than we are used to. I figure I've made more mistakes than anyone, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

It's easier to trade in 5x5 category leagues - where you can horde SB or SV and trade them for more traditional assets. Since our version of ON uses points based on linear weights, we are all angling for the same high OBP, high power hitting players. Or, on the pitching side, the guys who are avoiding BB and HRs this year. So the trade possibilities are more limited. But we can trade win-now players for prospects. We can trade Bats for Arms. We can trade players who are over-performing...

Same here. I'm not opposed to people using the veto if they have reason to suspect collusion. However, don't veto just because you don't like a trade.
-
I agree with Hillbilly - on principal I approve all trades, it would take a trade deal so egregious I haven't yet seen it for me to veto it.

Looking at the trade history, there appears to be one of us that is veto happy. Glad that most of us don't share that philosophy. I could be wrong, it could be a different owner vetoing each time, but it does look like a pattern. Would be a boring league if every trade got shot down. Personally, I don't veto unless collusion is evident. Let owners run their teams.
-
Ha - when I was at the bottom of the standings earlier in the season, I had a closed door meeting and threatened to abandon the team if they didn't turn it around. Happy to see they've turned it around at least for a little while.

The immersion in yogurt ruined the speaker too, so from that day to this day I have listened to podcasts and music with only one. The phone call? Wrong number.

One morning I bought a cup of yogurt and a banana for breakfast, put in my headphones to listen to a podcast (it was probably Effectively Wild - I always start the day with that one if available) and my phone rang. Fumbling with the headphones, the left speaker popped out of my ear and dropped... right into my blueberry yogurt. My gross, waxy ear insert dropped into my blueberry yogurt. I hadn't even had the chance to take a bit of it. So, that particular morning, my only breakfast was a banana.
