I’m still trying to figure out how the one guy won an auction but was not active. I haven’t even gotten into what the other guy has posted on other leagues about this.
-
Let’s move on please. No need for potshots at this point. It has been discussed.
-
The commish has no idea what he’s doing. So you better be careful with loans.
-
I’ll make my penalty free cuts today. I plan to cut at least half my roster and only keep players I’m comfortable are below their market value. I would trade high-$ players like Cole, Bregman and Eloy with loans if there is a deal that would help me next year. If you see someone you like, let me know.
-
Welcome to the league new owners. Yes, we had a little turmoil. I believe we are past it though. I think we're all looking for a competitive league with active and engaged owners.

Hi everyone, I jumped in on the league this morning . .. and then I read the message board! Anyway, I am a rational, self interested owner, who likes to trade but fairly. You may remember me from running GHP last year. Hopefully these flood waters will recede. Last, if anyone is untouchable on my roster it's Jose Ramirez.
-
Looks like Max won the auction for Pasquantino. But I thought he wasn’t active?
-
Actually, yikes, there are so many cuts to make I won’t waste time listing them all. You can all see which players are likely cuts. Basically I’m open for business.
-
Before I use my penalty free cuts, please let me know if you are interested in anyone. I’ll list my likely cuts on my trade block. In a situation like this team is in, nobody is off limits. I’ll work on a rebound for next year.
-
I claimed one of the vacant teams. The roster is a bit of a mess, but I’ll do what I can. It’s too late in the game for this team to contend, but I’ll try to put it in position to bounce back quickly.
-
Again they both had injuries and didn’t have a deep bench. Heck the guy in last was in the top 3 in a couple other leagues (he had 2 accounts). So I don’t thing he was trying to screw things up here.
-
Well, when guys will not work their lineups personally (autopilot is a poor substitute over even a week, let alone a month), but they do work to destroy the competitiveness of their teams, there is no other decision to be made. Stop the trade, and release team owners who do not participate on an active basis. I did that. One of those teams has a lot of talent and will be replaced in short order. The other needs an owner who knows about prospects and has the patience to develop his team.

Yeah. He’s not going to get into it. His view is and has always been to let managers manage their teams. He was showing you how to do it.
-
I sent Niv an e-mail describing the trade and why it seemed to me that paying guys to accept Cole and Ramirez were not meant to become more competitive, but to make the league less so. He replied with this:
You can visit Commish Tools and Active Trades and cancel any trades before they process.

The rule is mentioning that figure as an example to the rule.
-
Response from Niv, creator of Ottoneu to this question in 2018 on the message board. https://community.ottoneu.com/t/is-there-a-limit-on-how-much-i-can-loan-another-team/3620/2
-
I highly recommend you check out the Otttoneu channel on Slack or the community board for clarification on this rule.
-
Otto does not limit loans. In nine years I have never seen this rule applied this way and there have been trades with loans well over this threshold every year. "Why would someone cut Jose Ramirez.." is exactly the point. That was not a trade for salary cap. I assumed the team that offered it was looking to acquire cheap assets for a rebuild by moving a high priced asset. I acquire prospects every year just for this purpose.
-
And why would anyone cut Jose Ramirez to get just $20 cap space, when he could easily be traded for a $30 player and free up $11 as well? Or Gerritt Cole for a similar arrangement?

C E, "Salary cap dollars can be traded between teams (i.e. team A can agree to count one half of a traded player's salary against their cap)."
One COULD acquire cap space by trading a $41 Jose Ramirez for 2 MiLB catchers. But not if one trades $39 along with Ramirez for two $1 prospecs. That leaves him losing a fine 3B and $39, and is why he is only allowed to lend half of Ramirez's $41 salary. Which is also why Otto limits loans in all its leagues to 50%.

Absentee owners are much more likely not to meet that innings limit.

Probably the most important thing you can do is meet the minimum innings limit. When you don't you forfeit all your pitching points and other teams undeservingly slide up. This can affect the final standings.
1250 innings is the league minimum. Please everybody, meet those innings limits. How would you feel if in the future you don't win a championship because somebody failed to meet their innings' limit?

Perhaps the rule was taken out of context but what happened was two owners accepted trade proposals based mostly on spite and not what was best for their teams. I ask that league members please be attentive to your team and understand that when owners fail to maintain their lineups it does compromise the competitive integrity of the league.

The rule is talking about acquiring cap space. So I agree to acquire a 20 player so I can cut them for 10 cap space. That is what the rule is talking about.
-
Well, you are reading it wrong. The rule is talking about a trade for salary cap dollars, not a loan to cover a players' salary. If it was simply talking about loans why would it be talking about half of the player's salary counting against cap? A traded player doesn't effect cap. A cut player under any context counts half against cap.
-
I don’t see a rules on the top in any league. Only one I see is on the bottom of the page.
-
Salary cap dollars can be traded between teams (i.e. team A can agree to count one half of a traded player's salary against their cap). However, these loans will not remain in place once the regular season ends
-
Leagues operate under a presumption that we all want to win, or at least improve our teams. Smell My Finger pushed the limit too far by offering a deal that normall would have been rejected emphatically. But he works his lineups and competes daily. Trou and Max were actively trying to destroy this league. I won't allow that.

Everyone of you: scroll up to the top of this page. At the far right topside, in white letters on a green background, you will see the word Rules. Read them all. Read article VI closely. Then tell me I'm reading it wrong. Half is 50% of the guy being traded's cost = max loan. Half of $41 is not $39. Half of $47 is not $34. Vetoes are unnecessary for one-sided trades. They were asked to be active managers, or to let someone else rebuild. Trying to sabotage W&W was the last straw

So being mad because they didn’t swap injured players for injured players in their lineup is pretty ridiculous. Also that trade was proposed to the team, they didn’t propose it. So when is the punishment coming for that team for malicious intent?
-
Yeah. That’s not what that means. This league does not have a rule against trades that include loans. I’m in leagues that do, but this doesn’t. If you want to change it, you’re free to do so. But you can’t kick them out for malicious trading meant solely to damage the league because you’re mad about a rule that doesn’t exist. And both teams didn’t have available players on their bench to swap in their lineup. Their hitters and pitchers are either injured or in the minors.
-
Again, you're welcome to have your own league rules, that's cool with me - if you do, are they posted somewhere so I can be familiar with them? Thank you.
-
I'm cool with your decision, it's your league - but having been playing Ottoneu since 2013 I'm pretty sure that's not what that rule means. The rule is discussing trading salary cap space by trading a player and cutting them. The receiving player agrees to count one half of the salary against their cap to gain the other half as cap space. Some league establish their own limits on loans, but Ottoneu itself does not have a structured loan limit.
-
Both of those trades were illegal under Rules Section VI (c). "Salary cap dollars can be traded between teams (i.e. team A can agree to count ONE HALF of a traded player's salary against their cap). Both were well over 75% loans. Both have been cancelled by the Commissioner. Both Trout and Max have abandoned their teams and this league by virtue of malicious trading meant solely to damage this league.

You didn’t check your team last week. Waaaa. Jeez dude. Chill. I moved players who are on the 60 day il to my 60 day il.
-
There ya go commish. I subbed players on the IL for different IL players. Happy now?

Max has been equally inactive but has not read his message board. Perhaps his deadline should also be tonight? Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think a month of neglect is a good place to draw the line.

Trout has been letting his team fly on autopilot since May 2. As co-commissioner I asked him (on the league's private message board) to choose to return to active management, or let us know he's ready to abandon that team. I gave him a couple of days to decide. He read the message May 31. Bed time tonight is the deadline for Trout.

Max, I actually voted for your Trout trade. If that is what you both agreed on and no funny business involved I was good with it. We are NOT here to help people get out of bad trades. My point in my post was that one of the more vocal people opposed to your trade turned around and did basically the same, just at a bit of a lesser extent.
-
This one is more than fine
-
It’s certainly not as egregious as the first. The loan is still a bit strange but I’m not sure I’m going to be vetoing this one.
-
Yep. Pretty much.
-
Seriously? Is that all you guys do is whine about trades?
-
This new Trout trade isnt any better with Pepper getting the 2 best players. Granted May is going to be out a bit more but he is still better then any of the guys going back.
