Def Goldyfinger
-
I wholeheartedly support Goldyfinger
-
Now that Win Butter has been outed as a Sex Pest, should I change my team name to Baderfinger or Goldyfinger?
-
I like it. Agree with WTK that I like matchups better. I will say how one of the things I liked best about points leagues in other platforms is that there are broader aspects of the game that you can allow scoring for that roto and category leagues don’t allow (points for complete games, grand slams, negative points for errors, etc) which make it kinda fun, but those aren’t allowable in Ottoneu anyway so I’d probably lean more toward H2H categories again next year.
-
Word - would love to keep this convo going. Realistically it wouldn't be to tough to change the scoring system if people don't like it. I may have to start a new league in the offseason and import the rosters but yeah. I'm curious to hear a variety of input from everyone. I wonder if 4 of the members who stoppped playing entirely got discouraged by the points system as well.
-
Points are harder to conceptualize how you're doing, for sure. But there's stuff if you take a step back that shows the opportunity to be more competitve than you think. For example, me and Seiya are the only two teams above 10K, but we've also in the top of innings pitched and games played per position, so we've just taken more opportunities to get points. Eventually, those will run out unless we start pacing ourselves; either way, those with more innings and games left have time to catch up
-
I really like this league but yeah, not a fan of the point system. It’s deflating to have -14 when a pitcher gives up a home run.
Like, one situation I had that I thought was weird was I had 2 guys throw 7 innings 1 run, one guy got 13ks and the other had 6ks. But the guy with 13ks gave up a HR so the guy with 6ks ended up with more points.
I also miss RBIs and Runs. Call me old fashioned, and maybe it’s because I’m a DFS player, but weird to not have those be a facto
-
Overall I really like it. One thing about just total points and no head-to-head is it feels like I got locked in about 8th place pretty early on and I almost certainly won't catch those ahead of me and won't be caught by those behind me...in some ways it's most fair bc you just get rewarded for your overall points situation, but having a weekly matchup or something certainly adds excitement and can help keep someone in it, or provide the possibility of moving around the standings a bit more.
-
I'm just genuinely curious how people are enjoying this league? Do people like points? I find it slightly confusing, honestly. I've also noticed a number of teams that quit a while ago. Just curious if people actually wanna do this?
-
It’s all system automated. If you cut a player for 20 bucks you get 10 bucks back and 10 in pentalty. let’s say and he clears waivers and is re-auction for his min salary for 10 dollars. When another team when’s him they now pay his 10 and your 10 cap goes away. Does that kinda make sense?
-
Ohh okay. I didn’t realize that! Thanks!
-
The penalty goes away if someone else picks the player up
-
The $9 penalty you had for Franimal went to BRZ when they won that auction. Is that it? We've had a lot of auction flips as of late.
-
Lol. What do you mean?
-
Am I crazy or did some of us get some extra salary out of nowhere?
-
FWIW, because I just did this: There's some strategy to re-auctioning players you've cut, too. I had Kwang Hyun Kim for $5 or something, then he signed with the KBO. I cut him and incurred a $3 penalty. I re-auctioned him after 30 days (yesterday), won, and cut him *again*, giving me a $2 penalty. The original $3 penalty is erased, meaning I gave myself an extra $1 in cap space. Probably won't matter, ever, but you can save some significant $$$ if you cut someone expensive (looking at you, Ynoa)
-
ahhh, that makes sense now. thanks!
-
You get the extra roster spot only for the 60IL guys.
-
how does the IL really work here? how come some teams have like 43 spots, but i've got 6 guys on IL and have to drop someone to stay under 40?
-
The UTIL designation is really rough though. And I've got other players I've struggled with finding a spot for since Cruz is there for 162 games. Maybe that means I should've cut Sano or something. I dunno.
-
It hurt 😔
-
Wow! Nelly Cruz on the wire, Mix?
-
The one other very important thing to note is that even though you have two C spots in the lineup, you still only have the 162 games total. Looks like a few teams have been doubling up each day pretty much so far, which there is a valid strategy to get your C games out of the way and then trade or cut your catchers once you're past the max, but if you don't want to do that you may want to slow it down a bit.
-
What about the rule where if you've benched 4 homers so far you get them all added back plus interest?
-
I could swear we instituted a rule where if you start a bum pitcher at Coors and they lose 22 points then those innings don’t count toward your max.
-
Yeah you got it - limits are all at the bottom of you team page to keep track of your starts. 162 starts max for all bats. Cumulative pitching must meet 1250 innings for the year but be no greater than 1500
-
Ok found it - boy season long! That's way tougher to wrap my mind around! But I see all the stuff on my team page at the bottom now - helpful.
-
So there's no like weekly view or anything like that for setting a lineup? Also, I should probably know this or be able to tell easily myself but I can't - are there limits? Like if you play too many people up front will you at some point lose the option to play folks? Thinking of basketball with the 27 game/week limit...
-
Congrats William for that sexy Suzuki pickup!
-
I started playing ottoneu the year Eric Thames returned to MLB. Cannot wait to see where the Seiya Suzuki hype train settles.
-
BASEBALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Although I like him too. That BB to K rate is really fun.
-
Steven Kwan is a very Max prospect.
-
I would've bet money you auctioned Steven Kwan or Max.
-
So many names I don't know being cut and auctioned.
-
Hahaha I love this. I remember a few years ago some of us were talking about doing a fantasy fantasy draft. We’re we draft our wives, girlfriends or friends who know nothing about baseball and they draft for us
-
We are still on the outskirts of Akron, so Katrina's going to be drafting on my phone with my guidance as we drive. Very excited.

Draft is tonight y’all. Unfortunately who knows when baseball will be real. Also if you wanna do the extra optional buy-in. Hit me up. So far it’s just me, Bill and joe
-
Draft is this weekend ya'll. 7pm, sunday.
-
Hey guys. For those who previously indicated interest in doing a buy-in for a winners pot. I talked to Stefan and we were thinking if we have 4 or fewer people contribute $25, the winner of that group would just take all. If we have 5-8 people contribute, we would pay out top 2 finishers with 67% going to first and 33% going to second. If we have 9-12 people contribute, we could pay out top 3 on a 60%/30%/10% breakdown. If you want to participate, Venmo $25 to Stefan @Stefan-Sanderson by Sunday.
-
Hey all - Friendly reminder the draft is 1 week from today at 7pm, EST.
-
The final Draft day is Sunday, March 6th at 7 pm. Not all indicated they were free however, I think many of you just blocked out all of March. Let me know if this doesn't work. This is far enough out we should be able to make it I would think. (please ignore my last message)
-
Hey guys, please list when you are available to draft here: https://xoyondo.com/dp/Z2aRbGYqp34RxEW
This will be our final draft of the season to fill out our rosters and then we can start trading!
-
Nice drafting tonight! The next draft will be the final draft and then I'll open up the trading season so we can try to get our rosters in shape before opening day. Keep in mind that you do not have to fill out your whole team but next time we draft we will draft until everyone decides they are done. You don't have to stay the whole time. Just decide when your team is complete. Not sure how long it will take but i would budget 3 hours at least. I'll send a poll out soon to see when you're free!
