August 6, 2025 11:27 AM : Lorenzen (oblique) stuck out five batters and allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks over three innings Tuesday in a rehab start with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Analysis: Lorenzen struggled in his first rehab outing, surrendering two home runs and spotting 36 of his 66 pitches for strikes as he works his way back from a left oblique strain. Prior to the injury, the veteran had been serviceable but unspectacular in 18 starts for Kansas City, compiling a 4.61 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 99.2 innings. The Kansas City rotation remains unsettled with Kris Bubic (shoulder) out for the season and Cole Ragans (shoulder) also on the shelf indefinitely, but Lorenzen could still have a starting role waiting for him with the big club even after the Royals brought in two more starters in Bailey Falter and Ryan Bergert at the trade deadline. Lorenzen is expected to make one more rehab start before the Royals activate him.
