Hey all, great draft today! Lotta fun. MiLB draft will start tomorrow at 12 et via the message board. Camel Crew has no.1 I think, and can pick whenever if they are ready. Reminder 8 hr clock, which is a little short for this type of draft so do your best to pay attention!

Good luck, everyone! May most of our best laid plans last longer than 15 minutes into the draft...

cool, thanks! good luck everyone !

Yes, that's already the case. There are no add/drops of MiLB eligible players from the start-up auction until the initial MiLB draft is completed.

or... by rule you arent allowed to pickup anyone you cut from your 40 man for 30 days or something right? maybe just make the rule consistent with the milb draft as well. so that you cant draft anyone you cut from your 40 man roster for 30 days or something? does that make sense
-
to Grisham^ sounds fine but how do we prevent the franco scenario you brought up earlier? should any players drafted in this initial draft just be ineligible since the first milb draft is going to be right after anyway? that first pick insanely valuable. especially since you are expunging the cap hit from the previous owner. There's literally no reason for the guy with first pick to not spend $50 on franco, cut him, draft him first MILB, AND then get the $50 back for in season moves

Good Luck

Ok everyone, we had two votes for Option A, so we will allow cut players to be eligible for all MiLB drafts. This aligns with how I had envisioned the rules (IV.c says eligibility is "not rostered on one of the League's primary rosters"). To make this clear I have added the following under IV.c: "This includes otherwise eligible players that have been cut from another team's 40-man roster" and "In the above scenario, the cap hit will be expunged from the prior owner"

I pick 5th.

changing the subject... Anyone want to switch draft positions? it's not the end of the world to me but the 8th is when my cat Tinkerbell was diagnosed with gingivitis so i have some really bad associations with that number. thanks in advance !
-
That's correct. The only restrictions that will ever exist on adding/dropping any players to your 40-man are (1) adding/dropping MiLB eligible players DURING one of the MiLB drafts (2) adding players on someone else's MiLB (I will place on restricted list so shouldn't be an issue)

I like option A. However, I have never had a supplemental MiLB roster, so this new to me.
When I draft Wander Franco for $15 to my 40 man roster, then drop him on April 5th because I'm on a bender that makes me think adding Eric Sogard is a better option. Is Wander Franco immediately available for waivers? Is he eligible for waivers when he is called up to the Rays 26 man roster on April 17th? I'm assuming we would not have to wait until he reaches his 130 AB on May 17th, cor

I can see the google doc. Looks good to me.
-
Now I remember what I did last year.
As commissioner I was able to move players from the restricted list to the active rosters with the salary of a dollar and then drop that player without a penalty.
So the team didn't get charged a penalty but the player was assigned a value of a dollar.
-
Created a google sheet with draft order and will also house MiLB rosters

Also, why would you need to cut someone from your milb team if you can’t pick anyone up... there’s a free milb player cut period before the subsequent milb drafts right ?
You don’t need to cut them any other time. Unless you are acquiring multiple milb guys in a trade ...
-
And yes if you have a guy with a $1 salary on your 40 man and cut him you don’t save any money. You have the $1 penalty. Let’s keep contracts out of the milb rosters right?
-
Meant to say if they have a salary it defeats the purpose of the milb system.
-
You can only add players to your milb roster during the milb draft correct?
I think option B makes sense. It can reset each year. Anyone drafted or claimed during the year should be ineligible for the milb drafts that season. They will have a minimum salary at that point too so it defeats the purpose.
I think that keeps it simple right?
-
I'll follow the majority
-
You might be right about that I always thought the penalty was because now you have an extra roster spot open.
-
I'm pretty sure that if you drop someone with the salary of a $1 you have a $1 salary cap penalty.
Ozzie-Mandias on
February 25, 2021 5:53 PM
-
Just keep in mind that if you drop a player with the salary of a dollar there is no salary cap penalty.
-
If you're not going to give them a salary of a dollar and they're not picked up as free agents maybe you should make them available for a summer draft.
-
Gruesome I know it's yout league but I've always played that in order to drop someone from the
M i l b they first had to be called up to your 40-man roster and dropped giving them a salary of a dollar. It's also much easier because they go straight to the wavor wire.
-
Hmm, so I don't think we should have a $1 cap penalty for players cut from your MiLB as they have a $0 salary in the MiLB. But I will add an option C for whoever wants it.
Option C: Players cut from 40-man are ineligible from that mid-season supplemental MiLB draft (but are eligible for subsequent MiLB drafts).

I would say that once they have a salary they cannot be on a milb roster that year.
. Of course if it's a new year and everybody starts with a salary of zero and he hasn't played in the major leagues then of course he should be eligible for the milb draft again.
Also in order to be dropped from somebody's milb roster they have to be called up to their 40-man roste r and given a salary of $1. Therefore that player would no longer be eligible to be drafted if there was a second draf

Alright Grisham. I'd prefer a Sunday PM finish up - though I'm down for 12 hours of drafting on Saturday.
I'd vote option A, maintaining the status quo so to speak.

Zingers, that type of rule would certainly be cleaner and easier to enforce, do we want to have a vote on it?
Option A: Cut players are eligible for future MiLB draft
Option B: Players who have been on a 40-man roster are never eligible for any future MiLB drafts
I will update the constitution once we have tallied votes by EOD tomorrow.

Possibly a dumb question, but will we pause the clock a few times for food or should I just plan to have all my basic necessities around me...?
-
Realignment, I would like to get through the draft on Saturday, but left open the possibility of a second day if we run out of steam. I would say prepare for at least 6-7 hrs and then we can take a pulse of the room and see if we want to keep going, or delay to another day.

In my other league for example, Corbin Martin was owned on a roster at $2. He was cut when he got TJ. He was then drafted by another owner in the mid-summer MiLB draft, and the cap hit was expunged from the original owner. I think that type of event is fine. But it could be a potential loophole in the extreme example I suggested below.
Ozzie-Mandias on

I am pretty sure that once a player is on a roster and has a salary even if he is dropped he will have a salary and therefore is only eligible to be picked up on waivers. Or once he clears waivers as a free agent
-
So, he can't be sent the to minors by the team that owns him. I think the trickier scenario is where he is cut, and un-owned at the time of the next minor league draft. We've had that happen in my other league and generally considered those players eligible. In an extreme case, if you knew you had the first pick, you could do something where you significantly overpaid for a top prospect ($60 for example). Cut him, and then once he passes through waivers, draft him to your MiLB with the 1st pick.

Also--are we anticipating completing our draft Saturday? I know the Google doc references a second day to finish up.

So with your example, if Wander Franco is auctioned and rostered with a salary of $15, he is always part of the 40 man roster and can't be send down to the MiLB roster, correct? Unless he is cut and picked up by someone else?
The Karn Kids2 on
February 25, 2021 3:02 PM

For example:
1. Wander Franco is eligible to be nominated on Saturday.
2. If Wander Franco is not added at auction, he will be eligible for MiLB draft.
3. During the MiLB draft, Wander Franco cannot be added/dropped.
4. If Franco is not auctioned or selected in MiLB draft, he's eligible to be added and dropped at any point following the MiLB draft.

Also, had a question about this, and wanted to make this clear for everyone. All minor-league eligible players can be nominated/auction/rostered as part of our auction draft on Saturday, and I would expect the top 10-30 guys will be acquired in this fashion. Once the auction is complete, there will be a temporary freeze on add/drops of MiLB eligible players.
