third.
-
i second that. keep it the same this year, change it for next year.
-
In both cases, though, I am perfectly happy to go with whatever the majority votes.
-
However, I would vote to change to the other system starting next season, because I think it adds a bit more strategy to the game.
-
Some people likely made decisions based on that rule, so it would be unfair to change it mid-season.
-
My vote would be to keep the current system for this year, since it was the system in place at the beginning of the season. So everyone making trades and bidding in auctions was aware that one player from their team was likely to get voted it off.
-
So the way I see it, if we decide to keep vote off for this year then we need to decide the format for next year at the same time. I'm good with either - as long as we know before 2013 trades/draft.
-
My logic for trading him at the start of this season was that no matter what he did, he'd show enough to be the best player on my team for performance+salary that he'd be voted off.
-
Draft Results 2011: http://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/118/draftresults?season=2011
-
I'm pretty sure I took Trout in the original draft in 2011. And the player voted off my team was Desmond Jennings.
-
what made the trade fair. but i think we should still go with majority rules, so still waiting on some of the better teams. top of the standings, what's your opinion?
-
first off, he was voted off last year. you're probably looking at the in-season auctions and not the auction draft results. and yes, i would expect both of them to be voted off. it was essentially 1 arbitration-eligible player for another, and thats
-
A $13 prospect with 3 major league at bats. Yes he was highly touted, but so were Brien Taylor and Todd VanPoppel. Ask anyone in April and Lawrie was the better asset
-
Plus, in April the player MORE likely to be voted off was the one I gave up...Lawrie at $3. No one (including me) had any clue Trout would be MVP good, but I took the chance by trading Lawrie and a 30+ HR hitter for what at that point was a $13 prospect..
-
And as best I can see, Trout was not voted off last year; there are no auctions for him going back to b4 last offseason...
-
The way you can tell that your argument is wrong is that the trade was made on April 29th!...the day after he was called up. At $13 there is no way you can say that he was a lock to be voted off!
-
the current arb system) that trout would get voted off again this year. keep in mind, he was voted off last year too. you knew the well was poisoned.
-
so it was essantially two insane value picks (waino/trout) for one good value pick and a decent but highly paid and injured at the time mike morse. the only way this trade makes any sense at all would be if HM assumed (like we all did at the time, given
-
i can't speak for hot mess, but the current arb system is probably WHY you were able to acquire trout. looking back at the trade, it was trout/waino/luke scott for morse/lawrie/bourne. scott sucks and bourne doesnt really play in this system (no sbs)
-
NOT remove them from the team that was smart enough to grab them while they were not as valuable.
-
So with the current structure I not only lost Trout, but the assets I gave up to acquire him. You should not be penalized for doing well, which is what losing the player equates to. The arb process should bring players salary more into line...
-
In all seriousness, it sucks having made a great trade to bring back long-term value only to lose that value thru the arb process. Isn't a big part of the Ottoneu strategy identifying undervalued players, acquiring them and reaping the benefits?
-
PLEASE change the arb process (says the $13 Trout owner).
-
That makes sense to me - I agree that changes that may affect strategy are best made between seasons.
-
I'm with DJIB. Stick with the current system for this year, decide before the season starts if we're going to switch for next year.
-
I think both systems have their flaws. If we do choose to move to the new system, I think we should wait until next offseason. We made roster moves this year assuming that the current sytem would be in place this off season.
-
I like the current system.
-
personally i would prefer a chance at bidding on trout/harper/etc rather than trying to slowly increase their salaries they get cut. i do like the new system but had i known it would be in place i would have pursued certain players a bit harder.
-
I'd sort of like to stay how we are for this year, but that might just be Trout regret since with money he wouldn't be in the auction. As long as everyone participates in either system this offseason I'm fine though.
-
I'm fine with either process - but I think we should decide sooner rather than later, so that we all know.
-
Someone asked that same question in the comments - I think the answer was that they are still figuring out how to handle people who don't allocate money/vote.
-
sorry, 1 more thing. last year only half the teams voted on arbitration. would this mean that the teams not voting dont allocate any money?
-
plus i think even with this new process mike trout will still be a bargain compared to what he'll go for at auction.
-
i'll be here next year one way or another. i would just hate to see the rule change after i've already made it part of my strategy going forward.
-
i'm 100% in favor of the current system because it enriches the draft pool with players that otherwise might not be cut. i've held on to v-mart all year in anticipation of this rule, but if we put it up to a vote, i'll go with everyone else.
-
It sounds like each league will be able decide whether to stick with the old system, or switch to the new system.
-
What do you guys think of this: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php/new-and-improved-ottoneu-arbitration-process/
-
Who knew he'd even be in the system? Figured it might help my attendance figures!
-
Haha I'm with ya. And when the say he "hit 87mph" yesterday, that means he's sitting 83-85
-
clemens? really?
-
Will trade for DL players...Votto + for Trout? Grandy for Bautista? You might be selling at $0.80 on the dollar, but Flags Fly Forever!
-
I'm looking to sell anything. See if anything on the roster piques your interest.

Injuries and poor decisions have doomed my 2012. Time to build for next year. Guys like Chipper, CJ Wilson etc. available.

Any takers on Kemp? Looking for guys who will probably be in the majors for most of 2013. Or young players generally.
