Wow..you guys traded Traded Trout for Berrios last year as well. lol
-
Guess I should have waited until after Javier's start to make a call on cutting him.
-
Hey - whatever works. As long as this season doesn't count...
-
Gurriel wishes for the season to end -- half of the Marlins roster tests positive -- the monkey's paw curls
-
Man. We are on an impressive run of nominating players who are not good. Let’s keep it going. I nominate José Ureña!!!
-
with nothing substantive, probably.
-
Geez the news out of MIA is getting pretty ugly. I wonder how MLB is going to respond...
-
They're at the bottom of your team page. 60 for single positions, 300 for OF, IP min/max is 460/560.
-
What are the position starts limits and IP min/max for this season?

So... which commish do I have to bribe to end the season today?
-
First place in late July!
-
All of those rough times, and Gurriel is in first place. Way to battle through!

Poche wasn't likely going to be a difference maker this year but COME ON.
-
Ah, I misread his cut date. I thought this was a new auction and immediate cut. My bad.
-
Wick Nittgren, baby
-
Wut?
-
Nice to see a few trades happening. Really makes it feel like baseball is back again.
-
To be completely honest - at this point I'm kind of hoping more of my players don't play in 2020. Less chance of them getting hurt..
-
Honestly I'm on to 2021. It's better if I just pretend this season never happened.
-
Gurriel cannot catch a break. First Severino, then Syndergaard, now Price takes himself out for the season.
-
Little over 3 weeks to the season...let's play ball!

Given the overall lack of baseball optimism, I busted out my old MLB Showdown cards last night. Shocked to find out that Wizards of the Coast thought that Carl Everett was the most valuable hitter in 2000.
-
Good article from Fangraphs today on this exact situation.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mlb-takes-unusual-negotiating-tack/
-
Well put...there should be more urgency as the NFL season is right around the corner and once that's on the horizon it will be too late to garner any degree of fan attention...might suit ownership just fine
-
I know people are eager for news, but the fact that we are receiving constant updates on what should be private negotiations makes me suspicious that this information is being selectively leaked to drive a narrative. This is not unlike when a player will have their agent "leak" an offer they received from one team in an effort to drive up bidding.
-
Yes, exactly. All that seems very reasonable and should be a win-win. So why is there still not even an outline of a return to play plan? The argument I am trying to make is that the narrative presented to the public through the media does not reflect the actual complexity of negotiations, and such over-simplification is ripe for narrativisation. The narrative I see emerging is one in which the owners will attempt leverage public opinion to denigrate labor as unreasonably rejecting a square deal
-
I don't read the updates that way...the players' position publicly is to receive prorated "pay-for-play" which seems fair in and of itself...in contrast, the owners are trying to limit losses claiming that their franchises while valued in billions, lose money for every game played without the revenue stream from attendance...the owners "golden ticket" is playoff money so if they could get away with a short season and go right to expanded playoffs they might break even
-
I didn't mean that MLB gives a shit what the public wants, but simply that owners are trying to use the media to control the narrative around labor negotaitions and paint the players as being greedy or unreasonable. Let's not forget that several of the owners have stakes in telecom and media companies.
-
keep your chins up guys. I still believe that some form of season will be played.

Going into COVID was hopeful I might be able to actually see a live game late season and then I realized it would be TV only. Frankly disgusted with both sides. The country could benefit from the season starting.
-
public opinion? that ship has sailed...now it's all about minimizing losses and maximizing compensation, both understandable positions...no one wins here
-
I get the impression that all this news is intended to get public opinion involved on one side or another. I don't think it's doomed quite yet, but they are very quickly running out of time. Also as I've said before, I'm very pro-labor, but Tony Clark is a fucking idiot. The MLBPA needs better representation.
-
Bad negotiating on both sides. Shame on the league for sticking to their 50/50 revenue share. Idiocy on the part of MLBPA for proposing more games when the league is claiming that games are operating at a loss.
-
Yeah, seems like both sides are in the "refusing to negotiate" phase. Massive, massive bummer...
-
Could be over
-
I think the PR hit will be severe, if they don't play. The NHL is going to play. The NBA is going to play. The KBO is already playing. NPB will begin soon. Does MLB really want to be the only professional league to skip a season? They will get it figured out and play.

If the season is cancelled, players don't risk their health and that of their families, they don't get paid and owners limit their losses...sounds like the best for all involved
-
Got to admit, I'm kind of excited about the universal DH though.
-
As for your point about the labour negotiations, SG, I'm totally on the side of the players here. There is no MLB without the players, and asking them to assume the majority of the risk for lost revenue is absolutely ludicrous. Plus there's the whole health and safety angle. The owners can continue to socially distance, but the players have to put their health on the line if there's to be a season. I'd rather the season be cancelled than have the union agree to such exploitative conditions.
-
I don't envision any large changes, but maybe a couple tweaks like the creation of a 6th RP slot if there are a lot of doubleheaders.
-
I wonder if there'll be any ottoneu rules changes around relievers this season if they end up playing. If MLB plays, seems like there's be LOTS of doubleheaders and bullpen games. Seems like a slim chance tho, especially if a bunch of generationally wealthy billionaires are asking people (millionaires, granted) with legitimate talent who worked from, in some cases, almost nothing, to take massive pay cuts.
-
Absolutely Urbina. My initial thoughts were not to stream so much but to just have quality depth there. Although the new feature that shows IP usage for the last 5-7 days really helps with streaming prediction. I love talking about this stuff so anytime is a good time for me :)

I would honestly like to hear your thoughts on this strategy at season's end. I've tried streaming relievers before (like last year when I fell behind DJIB in several categories in the last month), but I found it almost impossible to manage because relievers are used in such an unpredictable manner.

-
Trade bait...injury/bad performance protection...part of my thinking there. Need to improve all of my pitching stats, so I thought that throwing a bunch of RP spaghetti on the wall would be the cheapest solution. It may not work but I had to try something different.

Jesus, Arcia. You've got a lot of relievers.
-
Well he's got heaps more cap room than me, so it makes sense as a low risk gamble. If he gets him down to $1 and the velocity comes back after he's off PEDs, it could turn in to a good investment for 2021. Got to love a groundball pitcher in this scoring format.
